E-waste initiative launched in Hyderabad to tackle hazardous waste from IT sector, urbanisation
A CSR initiative called "E-waste Initiative" has been launched in Hyderabad in collaboration with distinguished organizations that aims to protect the environment and foster social responsibility in order to tackle one of the major challenges: e-waste generation.
Electronic waste (e-waste) is a generic term used to describe discarded electrical or electronic devices. It includes gadgets like smartphones and laptops, as well as electrical appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines.
E-waste poses a serious threat to both the environment and public health, requiring immediate action. The mission of this campaign is to educate and engage every sector of society—residential communities, offices, retail markets and educational institutions.
Experts predict that the amount of e-waste could double by 2050, posing a significant threat to the environment. If not recycled properly, it can also cause health hazards. However, a shift towards a circular economy, where resources are recovered and reused, could revolutionize e-waste management. Moreover, manufacturers are starting to design electronics for easier repair and disassembly, potentially extending product lifespans and reducing waste.

The Government of India has established comprehensive regulations for e-waste management, primarily through the E-waste (Management) Rules, 2022, which aim to address the growing challenge of electronic waste and streamline the processes for handling it responsibly.
E-waste management in Hyderabad:
Hyderabad, being a major IT hub, has seen a massive increase in e-waste generation due to rapid urbanization.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has initiated a Centre of Excellence on E-Waste Recycling at C-MET, Hyderabad, to foster research, innovation and best practices in e-waste management.
The Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) has enacted the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2018 to regulate the handling of electronic waste, promoting responsible management and reducing environmental harm, with a vision to achieve economic growth alongside environmental protection for an improved quality of life.

Bank of Maharashtra gains after Q1 PAT rises 23% YoY; clocks NIM of 3.95%
Bank of Maharashtra rose 1.66% to Rs 56.99 after the bank reported 23% increase in net profit to Rs 1,593 crore on a 16% rise in total income to Rs 7,879 crore in Q1 FY26 as compared with Q1 FY25. Net Interest Income (NII) grew by 17.60% on YoY basis to Rs 3,292 crore in Q1 FY26 as against Rs 2,799 crore for Q1 FY25. Net interest margin (NIM) stood at 3.95% as on 30 June 2025. Operating profit of the bank for the June25 quarter was Rs 2,570 crore, up 12% YoY. Provision & contingencies other than taxes declined by 9% to Rs 867 crore in Q1 FY26 from Rs 951 crore in Q1 FY25. Profit before tax in Q1 FY26 stood at Rs 1,703 crore, up by 27% from Rs 1,343 crore in Q1 FY25. Gross NPA improved to 1.74% as on 30 June 2025 against 1.85% as on 30 June 2024. The same was at 1.74% as on 31 March 2025. Net NPA improved to 0.18% as on 30 June 2025 against 0.20% as on 30 June 2024 and 0.18% as on 31 March 2025. Provision coverage ratio stood at 98.36% as on 30 June 2025. Gross advances grew by 15.34% on YoY basis to Rs 241,097 crore in Q1 FY26 as against Rs 209,031 crore in Q1 FY25. Deposits jumped 14.07% YoY to Rs 267,416 crore in Q1 FY26. Total Basel-III capital adequacy ratio improved to 20.06% with common equity tier-1 ratio of 15.62 % for Q1 FY26. Bank of Maharashtra is engaged in providing banking services. The bank's segments include treasury, corporate/wholesale banking, retail banking, and other banking operations. The Government of India held a 79.60% stake in the bank as of 30 June 2025.

Billion Electric Mobility secures over 250 EV truck contracts across India
Billion Electric Mobility (BillionE), an e-Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) provider, has announced it has secured more than 250 long-term electric truck contracts with enterprise clients across India. The company's fleet includes medium and heavy-duty trucks ranging from 12T to 55T gross vehicle weight. These vehicles are being deployed across multiple sectors including e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, cement, copper, steel, FMCG, automotive, and logistics. Operations are currently underway in regions such as Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Visakhapatnam. Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO of BillionE, said, 'Reaching the milestone of 250 long-term EV truck contracts is more than a business achievement. It reflects a transition from pilot programmes to full-scale operational fleets across the country.' Growth aligned with policy shift and infrastructure rollout The announcement coincides with the Government of India's launch of the PM E-DRIVE scheme , which includes a ₹500 crore budget to subsidise around 5,500 electric trucks. Incentives of up to ₹9.6 lakh per vehicle are now available, based on battery capacity. BillionE currently operates more than 60 heavy-duty electric trucks and aims to scale to over 250 vehicles by early 2026. The firm provides bundled services that include the vehicle, charging access, route planning, and maintenance under one contract. The company's charging infrastructure is powered by CHARGE ZONE, its affiliated group entity, which manages one of India's largest high-speed EV charging networks. Pirojshaw Sarkari, Advisory Council Lead at BillionE, added: 'Customers are seeking complete solutions that ensure uptime and operational continuity. Our eMaaS model is built to meet those expectations.' Expansion plans and funding Earlier this year, BillionE raised $10 million in seed equity and debt. It is currently in the process of raising an additional $15 million in Pre-Series A funding. The company plans to expand its fleet to 5,000 electric trucks by 2029. A Series A equity round of $100 million is targeted by the end of 2025. BillionE's long-term objective is to support India's transition to zero-emission commercial freight by leveraging integrated logistics technology and charging networks.

The new Kia Carens Clavis EV is priced from ₹ 17.99 lakh and goes up to ₹ 24.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The new offering is based on the localised E-GMP platform and shares its underpinnings with the recently launched facelifted Carens Clavis. Kia says its new electric people mover promises the same comfort and premium cabin experience, while ensuring zero tailpipe emissions. Bookings open on July 22, 2025. Kia Carens Clavis EV: Power & Range Powering the Carens Clavis EV is a single motor tuned to develop 169 bhp and 255 Nm of peak torque. 0-100 kmph comes up in 8.4 seconds, while power comes from the 51.4 kWh battery pack that promises 490 km of claimed range on a single charge. The charging point is now part of the closed grille, while the LED DRLs run across the width of the front profile. The rest of the design is likely to remain identical, ensuring maximum room in the cabin. The model gets new 17-inch aero alloy wheels that give the electric Carens Clavis a different appearance. The model also comes with an underbody cover, but the ground clearance is 5 mm more than its ICE sibling, at 200 mm. The cabin is identical to the ICE Carens Clavis, but the gear shifter has moved to the steering column, from the centre console Kia Carens Clavis EV: Interior The Kia Carens Clavis EV is the most accessible three-row electric offering to go on sale in India. Kia has liberated more space by moving the gear shifter to the steering column, instead of a conventional shifter. The electric MPV comes with a 26.6-inch panoramic display comprising two screens for the digital console and infotainment system. The model comes with over 90 connected features, while also carrying over features like Level 2 ADAS, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, a one-touch tumble-down second row seat, ventilated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, ambient lighting, an air purifier, and more.
