Colorado football's Big 12 preseason ranking revealed in USA TODAY Sports' preseason poll
Despite the absence of an official preseason media poll, multiple media outlets have released their own poll ahead of the 2025 season. We have already analyzed one from 247Sports, and now we have another one from our friends at USA TODAY Sports.
Sports writers covering markets in or near all 16 Big 12 teams voted on the predicted standings.
Kansas State came out as the team to beat, which should not come as a surprise after the Wildcats went 9-4 last year and enter 2025 with a dark horse Heisman candidate in quarterback Avery Johnson.
Colorado ranks as the No. 10 team in the conference, which was the same spot it received in the 247Sports poll. The rankings seem apt, considering Deion Sanders' squad will look quite different this year without Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter.
Here is the entire USA TODAY Sports preseason media poll:

Notre Dame Class of 2026 tight end target Evan Jacobson predicted to land at Texas A&M
Notre Dame landed a pair of elite tight end recruits when the program received commitments from Ian Premer and Preston Fryzel, two key offensive components in its Class of 2026. The Fighting Irish were also once considered leaders for the pledge of Waukee (Waukee, IA) tight end Evan Jacobson. But with two at the position already in the fold, tight end is seemingly taken care of in this class, which is one reason recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong gave an expert prediction for Jacobson to land with Texas A&M. Jacobson, who is also a very good basketball player like his father, who played hoops at Nebraska and Iowa State, is the second-ranked player in the state of Iowa, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Jacobson's offer list became even longer throughout this offseason, and he now has well over 30. Among the more notable power programs that have offered him besides the Irish are Ohio State, Penn State, LSU and A&M. One thing is clear: no matter where Jacobson lands, Irish fans have to be ecstatic about the future with Premer and Fryzel in the fold. The Athletic declares Jeremiyah Love the best running back in college football for 2025
The Athletic has named Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love as the best RB1 prospect for the 2025 season. Love, a draft-eligible underclassman who stands an estimated six-feet tall and weighs an estimated 210 pounds, is author Dane Brugler's clear number one prospect. Brugler says that Love has "instinctive athleticism", though he must get better at pass-catching. Brugler says Love is clearly the best running back in college football and has the talent to be the best playmaker in next year's draft. Here's an example of Brugler's analysis. "It doesn't take a trained eye to spot Love's exceptional talent. A springy athlete, he has the lateral agility to bounce between gaps and the immediate acceleration to burst through holes at full speed. He ties it all together with innate patience and reactionary movements — those traits plus his balance through contact make him a nightmare to tackle." Brugler suggests Notre Dame may have won the national title over Ohio State had Love not been hampered by a knee injury. I think it's safe to say we're all hoping to see Love at 100 percent this fall. Two Notre Dame players are dark horse Heisman candidates
One pundit has two Notre Dame players among his dark horse candidates for the Heisman Trophy. On3 Sports' Andy Staples and Bet MGM have Fighting Irish quarterback CJ Carr and running back Jeremiyah Love at +4500 and +4800, respectively, for the trophy. While Carr has limited experience so far, Love may be better than a dark horse, given some of the praise thrown his way recently. Others on the list include Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson at +4000, Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams at +3500, Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons at +4000, Baylor QB Sawyer Robinson at +6600, Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza at +5500, and Clemson edge rusher T.J. Parker at N/A. If Carr and/or Love are in serious Heisman conversation late in the season, that would obviously bode well for the Irish.
