DU's undergraduates can now exit after 3 years under four-year programme. Check the details

For the first time, Delhi University (DU) has formally opened the 'exit option' for undergraduate students who have completed three years under the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. This marks a major step forward in the roll-out of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP). The notification, issued on Thursday, comes as DU students are preparing to enter the final year of the four-year degree structure for the first time since the university adopted NEP. Last month, the Academic Council had approved the curriculum for the seventh and eighth semesters, finalising the academic blueprint for the fourth year. Now, with DU offering an official exit route, students who have successfully completed six semesters (three years) can choose to graduate early with a recognised degree. 'Students enrolled in the four-year Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 based on the NEP 2020 and have successfully completed six semesters (three years) are eligible to submit their intent to exit the programme with a three-year degree for multi-core discipline programmes and an Honours degree for single core discipline programmes, as applicable,' stated the notification issued by the Registrar. The move operationalises NEP 2020's provision for multiple entry and exit points in higher education. The DU has advised eligible students to submit their intent on the university portal. 'This initiative aligns with the NEP 2020's emphasis on providing multiple entry and exit points in higher education, offering students enhanced autonomy over their educational pathways,' the notification stated. University officials have also encouraged students to consult teachers and mentors before opting to exit, citing the importance of aligning academic decisions with long-term goals. 'The university encourages eligible students to carefully evaluate their academic and career goals before making this decision and recommends consulting with their teachers and mentors to ensure informed decision-making,' the notification added.

DU notifies exit option for third-year FYUP students

The University of Delhi (DU) on Thursday notified that third-year students of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) are now eligible to exit the programme with a graduation degree. The first batch of the FYUP, implemented in 2022, will advance into its fourth or final year this month. The notification comes at a time when several students have been complaining about the lack of clarity regarding the course exit. 'Students enrolled in the four-year undergraduate curriculum framework 2022 based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and have successfully completing six semesters (three years) are eligible to submit their intent to exit the program with a three-year degree for multi-core discipline programmes and Honours degree for single core discipline programmes, as applicable,' read the notification issued by Registrar. 'The university encourages eligible students to carefully evaluate their academic and career goals before making this decision and recommends consulting with their teachers and mentors to ensure informed decision-making,' it added. The university said that the notification aligned with the NEP's emphasis on multiple entry and exit points in higher education, offering students enhanced autonomy and educational pathways.
