Egyptian police eliminate two terrorists attempting to target state institutions

The Egyptian Interior Ministry announced it had successfully thwarted a terrorist plot led by the Hasm movement, affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. Its forces succeeded in eliminating two terrorists, one of whom Hasm had illegally brought into the country to carry out hostile acts against state institutions. The ministry said in a statement that it had received information indicating that leaders of the Hasm movement, the armed wing of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood, were planning to revive their activities after fleeing to turkey. They sought to carry out attacks targeting security and economic facilities. The statement explained that the plot was planned by five of the movement's leaders, who have been sentenced in various terrorism cases to various sentences. It continued that the movement's leaders pushed one of the movement's fugitive members from a border country, where he had previously received advanced military training, to infiltrate the country illegally. The statement indicated that this coincided with the movement's release of a video, spread online, showing its members training in a desert area of a neighboring country and threatening to carry out terrorist operations in Egypt. The ministry stated that Ahmed Mohamed Abdel-Razek Ahmed Ghoneim, a member of the terrorist movement, had been tracked into the country. Ghoneim had been convicted in several terrorism cases, including a death sentence for targeting security guards in Sharqiya, a life imprisonment for attempting to target the presidential plane, and the assassination of Lieutenant Colonel Maged Abdel-Razek, an officer at Nozha Police Station. Ghoneim was tracked down as he illegally entered the country via desert routes, and used an apartment in Bulaq al-Dakrour area in Giza as his hideout. He was planning to carry out the terrorist plot in collaboration with Ehab Abdel-Latif Mohamed Abdel-Qader, a member of the movement who is wanted for attempted attacks on several high-profile figures. Following permission from the Supreme State Security Prosecution, a raid was conducted on the hideout of the terrorists. The terrorists began firing randomly at the forces and the area surrounding the property, prompting a counter-terrorism operation. The exchange of fire resulted in their deaths, as well as the death of a citizen who happened to be passing by, who succumbed to his injuries as a result of the terrorists' indiscriminate gunfire. A force officer was also injured while attempting to rescue the citizen. The Supreme State Security Prosecution was notified and is conducting investigations. The Interior Ministry affirms its continued efforts to fight back the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group and its supporters, which aim to undermine Egypt's security and stability.

Egypt's FM seeks deeper economic, security ties on five-nation West Africa tour

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty began a five-nation tour of West Africa on Monday, leading a high-level business delegation in a push to bolster economic ties and deepen security cooperation across a region facing significant challenges. The tour, which will also include stops in Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, and Senegal, kicked off in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, where Abdel-Aty held a series of meetings with top Nigerian officials and the regional ECOWAS bloc, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement. Abdelatty is accompanied by a delegation of 30 heads and representatives of major Egyptian companies, signaling a strong focus on leveraging trade and investment to reinforce diplomatic partnerships. During bilateral talks with his Nigerian counterpart, Yusuf Tuggar, Abdel-Aty stressed the growing momentum in relations, particularly since the first-ever ministerial-level political consultation was held in Cairo in January 2025. The two ministers discussed enhancing cooperation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, energy, mining, construction, and information technology. Abdel-Aty said the business forum held during the visit was an ideal platform to deepen private sector partnerships and explore joint investment opportunities. In a significant diplomatic development during the forum, Nigeria's Foreign Minister Tuggar officially announced his country's support for the Egyptian candidate for UNESCO Director-General, Khaled El-Enany, ahead of elections in October. The Egyptian candidate, who was present at the meetings, also attended the bilateral talks where Abdel-Aty thanked Nigeria for its support of the candidacy within the African Union. In a separate meeting in Abuja, Abdelatty met with Abdel-Fatau Musah, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The Egyptian foreign minister offered to expand cooperation with the regional bloc to combat rising terrorism and extremism in the Sahel and West Africa. He said Egypt was ready to share its expertise through training and technical support for the regional counter-terrorism force. 'Egypt will not hesitate to provide all necessary support and assistance to the countries of the region in their efforts to combat terrorism and extremist thought,' Abdelatty said, highlighting the role of Egyptian institutions like the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution and Al-Azhar in promoting moderation. The discussions also covered Egypt's ongoing capacity-building support for Nigeria through the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD). The agency has so far trained 571 Nigerian personnel in 260 courses across various fields, a number Abdel-Aty said reflects Egypt's commitment to aligning its support with Nigeria's priorities. For his part, the Nigerian minister praised Egypt's active role on the African continent, particularly in reconstruction, sustainable development, and counter-terrorism. He expressed Nigeria's interest in benefiting from Egyptian expertise in infrastructure, technical education, healthcare, and modern agriculture. Before starting his West Africa tour, Abdelatty made a stop in N'Djamena on Monday, where he met with Chadian Foreign Minister Abdallah Saber Fadoul. During that meeting, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for development projects in Chad, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and health. He highlighted that a land road project to link the two countries and boost trade was a high priority.

18 Killed in Flash Floods in South Korea

Israa Farhan At least 18 people have died in South Korea following days of torrential rainfall that triggered severe flooding and landslides across multiple regions, according to the country's Ministry of Interior. Authorities reported on Monday that the intensity of the heavy rain had begun to ease after several days of relentless downpours. However, as of Sunday, nine people remained missing, and hundreds of residents in the most affected areas have been left in shock. One of the hardest-hit regions was Gapyeong, located about 62 kilometers northeast of Seoul, where residents narrowly escaped rising floodwaters. The town received a staggering 173 millimeters of rain in just 17 hours on Sunday—surpassing the previous daily rainfall record of 156.3 millimeters set in September 1998. The Ministry said two people were confirmed dead and four were missing after landslides swept through homes in the Gapyeong area and floodwaters carried away several vehicles. In total, 1,999 public buildings and 2,238 private facilities, including farmlands, were damaged by the extreme weather. With rainfall now subsiding, the Korea Meteorological Administration has issued a nationwide heatwave alert, warning of another dangerous weather pattern affecting the country. President Lee Jae-myung has ordered an immediate and precise disaster response, according to spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung. The president emphasised the need for tailored prevention measures based on the specific vulnerabilities of each area. Kang stated that if any negligence or serious disciplinary failures are found among officials, they will be held accountable. President Lee, who took office in June, has pledged to strengthen the country's disaster preparedness and avoid repeating the consequences of previous natural crises, which have often been linked to government inaction. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks
