Stoke-on-Trent pottery museum to host ceramics makers' market

BBC News19-03-2025
A ceramics market is returning to Stoke-on-Trent amid ongoing concern about the future of the industry. The event, at Gladstone Pottery Museum on Saturday, will be attended by contestants from The Great Pottery Throw Down and about 60 makers, the city council said.Workers in the city's pottery industry called for more government support after Royal Stafford entered liquidation last month, with a second firm, Portmeirion, also confirming redundancies.Council leader Jane Ashworth said the market would be a "fantastic event" for both aspiring potters and fans of the television pottery competition.
She added the venue had hosted a number of similar events over the years, which were always popular."Our centenary year is in full swing right now so what better way to showcase our brilliant city than with an event that celebrates all things pottery," Ashworth added.
Contestants Jonathan Jolly, Steve Brown and Natalie Simms from the latest series of The Great Pottery Throw Down are due to attend, alongside representatives from local firms Burslem Pottery and Scruffy Little Herbert.
The ceramic makers' market will run from 11:00 GMT until 16:00. Entry is free of charge, with advance booking not required. There will be stalls offering a range of clay artworks for sale, from traditional works to abstract pieces.Visitors will also be able to view a Great Pottery Throw Down exhibition which opened at the venue earlier this month as part of the city's 100th anniversary celebrations. The display features six bird baths the TV potters were challenged to create in episode seven of the show to reflect the area's industrial heritage, green spaces and waterways.

Stranger Things season 5 trailer 'confirms' character's fate as fans 'shaking'

Netflix has dropped the trailer for the highly-anticipated final season of Stranger Things and it has left fans with so many questions as well as an answer to a fan-favourite character's fate Netflix has just released an electrifying trailer for the much-awaited final season of Stranger Things, sending fans into a frenzy. ‌ The two-and-a-half minute preview teases viewers with enigmatic scenes and seemingly 'confirms' the fate of a beloved character. ‌ The footage hints at Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) in an emotional embrace with a figure in a hospital gown. ‌ With her distinctive reddish hair, fans are convinced that it's Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink), who appears to have emerged from her coma. In the previous season, Max was left comatose after a harrowing encounter with Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), and despite Eleven's (Millie Bobby Brown) efforts, she remained unresponsive in a hospital bed as the season concluded, reports the Express. Eager fans have flooded the comments section with their thoughts on the gripping trailer. ‌ One viewer exclaimed: "MAX IS ALIVE????" Another pleaded: "MAX STAY WITH ME". ‌ A third shared their excitement: "WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE IM SHAKING". Others couldn't contain their anticipation, with one saying: "I HAVE CHILLS OMG", and another adding: "That 'FOUND YOU' omg I'm scared". While one fan described the phrase "'Found You' is chilling", another summed up the mood: "OH THIS IS GOING TO BE INSANE." ‌ The fifth season of Stranger Things promises to bring the epic saga to a thrilling conclusion as the heroes band together to protect Hawkins, and indeed the world, from the clutches of Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), setting the stage for the ultimate showdown. The much-anticipated final season of Stranger Things is set in the autumn of 1987, and according to the official synopsis: "Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. ‌ "But he has vanished - his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. "As the anniversary of Will's disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. "The final battle is looming - and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they've faced before. To end this nightmare, they'll need everyone - the full party - standing together, one last time." ‌ Following Netflix's announcement in June, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release schedule for season five, which will unfold in three parts. For UK viewers, the first segment, episodes one to four, will drop on November 27 at 1am GMT, following their release on November 26 at 5pm PT. ‌ The festive period will see the second segment, episodes five to seven, available from Boxing Day at 1am GMT, after launching on Christmas Day at 5pm PT. And as the world celebrates the arrival of 2026, the climactic finale, episode eight, will be unveiled on January 1 at 1am GMT, immediately after its New Year's Eve release at 5pm PT. Each instalment will be simultaneously released globally, with the exact timing varying by region. Intriguingly, this represents a change for Netflix, which typically launches shows at midnight PT, reflecting the company's California base and corresponding time zone. The reason behind the streaming giant's decision to alter the release time for Stranger Things remains uncertain. Stranger Things season 5 part 1 is set to drop on Netflix on November 26; part 2 on Christmas Day; with the finale landing on New Year's Eve.
