The govt has allotted 3,500 crore to build one lakh houses. As per the guidelines issued by the rural development and panchayat raj department, only households with patta, ownership documents, and legal inheritance will be eligible for the scheme. A recent survey identified around eight lakh huts in the state.
All houses on objectionable poramboke land, huts occupied by tenants, huts used for commercial purposes, huts with RCC, metal sheet roofs, and occupants who own a house elsewhere will not be eligible for the scheme.
An official said each house will have a minimum plinth area of 300sqft and will have a living room, kitchen, bedroom, toilet, and tiled roof, with water and power connections. "In grouped areas, the govt will also provide infrastructure such as roads, street lights, drinking water facilities, and public toilets. The walls will be rose blush in colour, camouflage brown in the middle, and armour-coloured joineries," said the official.
An assistance of 12,000 will be provided under the Swachh Bharat Mission to every household to construct toilets in the case of individual habitations.
The scheme was originally launched as the Kalaignar Veedu Vazhangum Thittam in 2010. The govt is also facilitating the PM-Janman scheme to construct houses for nomads and scheduled tribes, said officials. "The goal is to ensure that there are no encroachments, and everybody gets a hygienic habitat."

Dy CM hails LMC, NBT for Swachh ranking

Lucknow: Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Thursday credited the city's performance in the Swachh Survekshan 2024 to the combined efforts of the state govt, Lucknow Municipal Corporation and the Aarogya Vatika, an initiative by Navbharat Times (NBT). In a post on X, Pathak said: "Lucknow secured third place in the national cleanliness rankings, and the NBT campaign played a role in this achievement. Launched in Sep 2020, the Aarogya Vatika programme educated citizens on turning kitchen waste into compost and growing vegetables and medicinal plants at home." He added that "I participated in several NBT events during both my tenures. Composting was an important parameter in the survey, and this initiative greatly benefited our city's rating." He further emphasised that continued collaboration between the govt, civic bodies, citizens and media will help keep cities, villages and the country clean and beautiful, contributing to the success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Mission. From City of Lakes to Clean City: Bhopal Ranked Second in Swachh Survey

Bhopal: India's fresh batch of clean cities has made its mark, with a new lineup emerging as top contenders in the 'Swachh Shehar' charts. The rankings this year was shaped by a key structural change—previous champions like Indore were shifted into a separate League, allowing other cities a chance to rise. Bhopal's performance this year proves it's not far behind. "This achievement is a result of the cooperation and awareness of the dedicated employees of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation, Safai Mitras, officials, and above all, the people of Bhopal," said Bhopal mayor Malti Rai. Out of maximum 12,500 score, Bhopal got 12067. Indore scored 12,080 points out of 12,500 in Swachh Survekshan 2025.
