Amazon's 'large and robust' smartwatch worth £70 now £38 in sale

Daily Mirror29-07-2025
Shoppers said they had 'no regrets' when buying this 'rugged and sporty' timepiece
Amazon shoppers have been heaping praise on a smartwatch that is on offer for almost half of its usual £70 price tag during a sale. People loved the fact that its design was ideal for "adventurers, athletes and professionals" alike.
The LIGE Tactical Fitness Tracker Watch normally costs £69.99, but there is a deal on with Amazon where shoppers can order themselves this watch for £37.78 - a discount of 46%. All options come with two interchangeable straps, one metal and one silicone.
The "rugged" watch boasts being put through "a series of rigorous military-grade tests", including extreme temperatures, low atmospheric pressure, and drilling, to "ensure reliability in harsh environments" as well as day-to-day life. Amazon also claims that the fully customisable device can stay powered on for up to 10 days after just two hours of charging.
At a fraction of the price of an Apple Watch or FitBit, shoppers can call, text, and receive social media notifications. As an added bonus, the watch doubles as a flashlight, with one built into the side of the device.
With fitness and health at its core, the watch allows easy tracking of more than 100 different sports and compiles "comprehensive" real-time health data from workouts. It also tracks steps, heart rate, blood oxygen, and sleep quality. Wearers can also get reminders to move and hydration alerts to help develop healthy habits.
Similar devices are on the market for people wanting an affordable way into the smartwatch world without spending hundreds of pounds. For example, Sports Direct is offering this Karrimor Smart Watch (£19.99, down from £49.99) and the Reflex Active Series 23 Smart Watch from Currys (£39.99).
But, the Amazon offer had dozens of glowing reviews from other shoppers who had "no regrets" over their purchase. One said: "My favorite [strap] is the one that is made of steel, which is not common and really heps this watch stand out. Comfortable, smooth and pleasant to wear."
Another added: "This watch is perfect in many ways. A great-sized face, amazing battery life and packed with lots of functions - the torch is so handy." A third wrote: "Great watch with good features. Easy to use and a nice big display. The strap is very easy to change and the watch is easy to use."
There were some critics though, like one shopper who claimed the 47mm screen was "laughably large" and another suggested that their watch "won't react to movement." And, a third warned others: "The heart rate fluctuates completely inaccurately when running between 90 and 190. It is good for everyday use, but not for sport"
However, the overall thoughts seem to be positive with more glowing reviews offering five stars. One of those shared: "At first glance, you see a large and robust watch that gives a very good image. It seems that they have put a lot of care into the details. Not only is it ideal for personal use, but it's a gift that stands out."
Another person who was pleased with the device said: "An ultra-sturdy and versatile watch, ideal for adventurers, athletes and professionals." And, one more added: "I fully charged it and after 24 hours of normal use I still had more than 90% left, while I thought that I should charge it every day like my phone."

US proposes new drone rules that could lead to Starbucks, Amazon deliveries

Aug 5 (Reuters) - The U.S. Transportation Department is proposing new rules to speed deployment of drones beyond the visual line of sight of operators, a key change needed to advance commercial uses like package deliveries. "We are going to unleash American drone dominance," Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said at a press conference on Tuesday. Under current rules, operators need to get individual waivers or exemptions to use drones without visual line of sight. The department said eliminating those requirements "will significantly expand the use-case for drone technologies in areas like: manufacturing, farming, energy production, filmmaking, and the movement of products including lifesaving medications." The proposal includes new requirements for manufacturers, operators, and drone traffic-management services to keep drones safely separated from other drones and airplanes. "It's going to change the way that people and products move throughout our airspace... so you may change the way you get your Amazon package, you may get a Starbucks cup of coffee from a drone," Duffy said. "Industry needs this rule to make sure they can use this technology that's going to allow them to do business more efficiently and effectively." Amazon (AMZN.O), opens new tab resumed testing drone deliveries earlier this year at two locations in Texas and Arizona. Amazon has a goal of delivering 500 million packages annually by drone by the end of 2030. Under the proposal, operations would occur at or below 400 feet above ground from pre-designated locations approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. Operators would identify boundaries and approximate daily flights and takeoff, landing and loading areas and ensure procedures if communications with drones are lost. Drones would yield to all manned aircraft broadcasting their position and not interfere with operations at airports. The Transportation Security Administration would require flight coordinators and others to obtain security threat assessments and a fingerprint-based criminal history records check. Lawmakers and many state officials have raised concerns about drones being used to target high-profile U.S. events like the FIFA World Cup. Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International CEO Michael Robbins praised the risk-based proposal as "a critical step toward enabling drone operations that will enhance safety, transform commercial services, and strengthen public safety with drones as a force multiplier."

I'm a nail technician — my favourite LED lamp has been slashed by 43% and it gives salon-quality results

TWO years ago, I became a qualified nail technician and since then, have been through countless nail lamps. The one that has remained my trusty companion has been the SUNUV nail lamp — and it's been discounted on Amazon by a hefty 43%. Whether you're looking to save some cash by doing your manicures at home or considering a career as a nail technician, this nail lamp is one to consider, offering salon-quality nails at an incredibly affordable price. We all know that summer brings weddings, BBQs, festivals, and other events that can strain finances, leaving less budget for monthly salon trips. So, now is the perfect time to save your pennies and put some treatments on hold by investing in a nail lamp. The SUNUV lamp has over 2,000 five-star reviews, has made over 3,000 sales this month alone, and is currently on sale for just £39.98. How much is it? The lamp usually retails for £69.99 but is currently (and frequently) on sale at Amazon for just £39.98. Who's it best for? The lamp suits anyone looking to do their nails at home, all the way up to people looking to start an independent career in nails. It's perfect for beginners as much as trained professionals due to its easy-to-use features and salon-quality strength. What we loved: The affordability and salon quality, as well as its four different time settings, which include a longer time and lower heat setting for sensitive hands and the longevity of a manicure. What we didn't: I genuinely don't have any issues to report with this lamp — it's been my go-to for years. SUNUV Led Nail Lamp £69.99 £39.98 - buy here Performance 2 BUY HERE I tested this lamp as part of my review of the best nail lamps, focusing on how long it takes to use, how easy it is for beginners to get to grips with and the features that set it apart from other devices on the market. The SUNUV lamp takes the top spot as the best overall lamp for me for several reasons. Firstly, despite being a salon-quality lamp — in fact, many salons use it — it's priced similarly to many flimsy starter lamps, making it a steal for the quality it offers. While it doesn't come with polishes, base coats and tools like some others do, the durability of the manicures it delivers makes it worth purchasing those additional items separately. One feature that I really love is the three different time settings of 10, 30, and 60 seconds, as well as a fourth option: a lower-heat, longer-timed 90-second setting, perfect for those with sensitive hands who may find higher heat intensity uncomfortable. The placement of the lights inside the lamp ensures even curing, while the sturdy, detachable base makes pedicures much easier to achieve. Price and packaging Other salon-grade lamps, such as Glitterbels or Gelish, can sit at the higher end of the price range, costing between £250 and £350. I've tested Gelish as well as other high-end lamps and still find SunUV's lamp to be the best all-rounder in terms of value, affordability, and features.

Shapermint brings its inclusive shapewear to the UK

Shapermint, the U.S.-based shapewear brand known for championing size inclusivity and unretouched campaigns, has officially launched in the UK. It is a notable expansion for a brand that has already served more than 12 million customers globally. With a product offering that runs from size XS to 4XL, and a portfolio of best-selling comfort-driven designs, Shapermint arrives on British shores with a clear message: compression doesn't have to mean discomfort. Founded in 2018, Shapermint is part of a broader wave of direct-to-consumer brands reshaping the intimates market. In the U.S., it has achieved mass-market success through distribution on Amazon and Walmart, riding a wave of changing consumer expectations around bodywear. British shoppers will now be able to access the full collection via the newly launched UK e-commerce platform. Where traditional shapewear once promised sculpting at the expense of comfort, Shapermint is selling a different proposition, soft, seamless, roll-resistant support that prioritises ease of movement. Its hero product, the All Day High Waisted Shaper Short, has been lauded for its breathable compression panels and ability to disappear under clothes — without the tell-tale signs of pinching or rolling. The brand's wireless bras, including the Supportive Comfort and Sweetheart Contour models, have developed a loyal following, thanks in part to influencers like British body confidence advocate Iskra Lawrence, who boasts over 5 million followers on social media. Shapermint's messaging, comfort-first, digitally native, and visually honest, reflects a wider shift across the lingerie and shapewear industry. Brands such as Savage X Fenty, Skims, and Good American (all of which offer sizing up to at least 4XL) have upended an industry long dominated by narrow ideals and restrictive garments. According to research firm Edited, size-inclusive lingerie lines have grown by more than 34 percent globally since 2020, with comfort now a key purchasing driver. Gabrielle Richards, Brand Director at Shapermint, explains the pivot: 'We're seeing a shift in consumer expectations around shapewear, it's no longer about squeezing into something restrictive for a night out. Today's shopper is looking for confidence-building pieces they can wear all day.' The UK market presents both opportunity and competition. Brands such as M&S, which dominates the domestic intimates space, have also expanded their shapewear ranges in recent years, and newer entrants like Skims have seen success with Gen Z and millennial audiences alike. Whether Shapermint's pared-back, comfort-first philosophy will resonate with British consumers accustomed to either high street price points or Kardashian-level branding remains to be seen. Still, in an era where the visual language of fashion is increasingly shaped by authenticity and access, Shapermint's arrival in the UK adds another voice to the growing conversation around bodywear that works 'with: the body, not against it. Summary Shapermint, a U.S. shapewear brand known for size inclusivity and unretouched campaigns, has launched in the UK, expanding its reach after serving over 12 million customers globally. Shapermint prioritizes comfort and ease of movement, offering soft, seamless support in sizes XS to 4XL, reflecting a shift in consumer expectations towards confidence-building, all-day wear. The UK market presents both opportunity and competition for Shapermint, as it enters a space with established brands like M&S and newer entrants like Skims, requiring it to resonate with British consumers through its comfort-first philosophy.
