From Instant Noodles To Blockchain: A Journey Of Self-Reliance And Systemic Change

Gracy Chen is CEO of BitGet.
When I was nine years old, I learned what I thought was the most important skill I could master. I was wrong.
As a single mother, my mom worked all day, and then, on some evenings, she'd go to class. She was doing her MBA at Sichuan, the best university in Southwest China. Because she was busy with work and studying, I mastered the skill that I thought was most important: Boiling instant noodles without burning the house down. On other nights, we'd go out and meet with her classmates, and she'd tell me, 'This friend runs a huge chain of stores. This one runs the chain of restaurants we're going to have dinner in.'
Boil Your Own Noodles
Looking back, I realize my childhood was like a mini-MBA: master of basic autonomy.
Lesson one: If you want noodles, you'd better learn to cook them yourself. She didn't even teach me how to cook, but my mom did teach me the importance of three things:
• Independence
• Going after what you want
• That getting an education is essential
These lessons have driven me throughout my career and are responsible for my becoming CEO of Bitget, a company where we understand the importance of empowering women.
Crypto With Conscience
At Bitget, we have been committed to leading the crypto revolution among women. We know it starts from within. We're the only top 10 crypto exchange with a female CEO, and 50% of management at Bitget are women. Think about that for a moment: 50% women in management? In crypto? That's like finding a Bitcoin wallet that didn't get lost in a boating accident—rare, but glorious.
Blockchain4Her: From Mission To Movement
In January 2024, we launched the education initiative BlockChain4Her, with a $10 million commitment to scholarship and mentorship. We know that women are underrepresented in the crypto universe, but we want to rewrite the rules of inclusion in Web3. With Blockchain4Her, what began as a mission to empower hundreds of women has scaled into a global movement to educate thousands of girls and women.
Educating 300,000 Futures
Partnering with UNICEF and joining the Game Changers Coalition is our next step in doing that.
Again and again, research shows that educating women and girls is key to changing communities for the better and even to increasing a country's GDP. Doing so in the crypto space expands the opportunities for women's financial independence and has the potential for exponential impact. Currently, women and girls in low- and middle-income countries lose out on $15 billion in economic opportunities annually due to digital skills and internet access gaps. Blockchain has the potential to leapfrog infrastructure barriers; many young women in rural areas may never see a real bank branch, but they can access a crypto wallet on their phones.
Web3 is becoming increasingly important in our world. The U.S. government is in the process of passing a stablecoin bill to allow more global transactions to be settled in stablecoins on the blockchain. Every top university is offering blockchain courses now, even Harvard. All the most renowned universities are teaching their students about crypto finance, blockchain tech or Web3 entrepreneurship. If we want true equality, it is essential that women are given opportunities to learn about this new and paradigm-shifting technology.
Working With UNICEF
We'll be working with UNICEF over the next three years to build a curriculum and roll out a program that will be available to women and girls globally. We'll deliver blockchain education to 300,000 people across eight countries: Armenia, Brazil, Cambodia, India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Morocco and South Africa. The curriculum will be deployed both online and in-person, using game-based learning on platforms like Agora. We understand that we can't always know what's best for different regions, so we'll be working with local teams to make sure the content is always relevant. Those teams will help shape delivery, select guest lecturers and translate materials as needed.
Starting this year, we will also be adding a blockchain pillar to the hackathons held in various nations, so that the women and girls we've helped educate and bring into the crypto space can build community with each other to amplify the impact of their understanding of blockchain and opportunities for financial freedom. And we'll be offering mentorship, internships and seed funding for youth-led projects.
Bitget and UNICEF both understand that educating and empowering women and girls—especially when it comes to STEAM—is key to building a better world for all of us. We want to bridge gender and economic divides by equipping adolescent girls, parents, teachers and mentors with blockchain literacy. But this idea runs even deeper, right down to the core values of the work all of us do.
Equity Is The Point
When I first discovered crypto, one of the things that most excited me was the egalitarian nature of the industry. Bitcoin was founded on the idea of peer-to-peer networks versus the traditional financial model, where a few people or organizations hold all of the power—a model that has been shown (by every financial crisis) to be enormously problematic. However, equity is at the very heart of the concept of crypto. And yet, we don't see that playing out. Despite crypto adoption being highest in emerging economies like Indonesia and India, few platforms are investing in long-term education or infrastructure in those places.
Companies in our industry must do more than innovate. We must lead with conscience. This isn't about 'being good people.' In crypto—maybe more than in any other industry—we know that a rising tide lifts all boats. The more we can drive mass adoption, the more we all succeed. At Bitget, we are committed to this. Our internal structures reflect inclusivity. Our Blockchain4Her initiative has been pushing for more equity, and our partnership with UNICEF on the Game Changers Coalition is the next step.
The tech industry is uniquely positioned to redefine access, equity and opportunity. The real question is: Will we collectively rise to the occasion?

Why Advanced Micro Devices Rallied Over 24% in July

Key Points AMD was allowed to resume modified AI GPU shipments to China. A South Korean news outlet reported that AMD is raising prices on its AI GPUs. Investors are growing more enthusiastic AMD will become a second source to Nvidia. 10 stocks we like better than Advanced Micro Devices › Shares of Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) rallied 24.2% in July, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. AMD had a great month, as its toned-down artificial intelligence graphics processing units (AI GPUs) were approved for sale into China, just as rival Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) was cleared to recommence sales of its H20 chip. AMD then got an end-of-month boost when a South Korean news outlet reported that AMD was substantially increasing the price of its Instinct AI GPUs, showing off some pricing power on its most important product. AI stocks get a boost from Trump and increased demand Artificial intelligence stocks generally had a pretty good month in July. All of the big cloud hyperscalers increased their outlooks for capital expenditures going to AI data centers, and AMD will undoubtedly be a beneficiary of this as it seeks to become a trusted second source behind Nvidia. The positive AI sentiment also probably got a boost from the Trump administration's midmonth unveiling of its "AI Action Plan." While there were several aspects to the 30-page plan, it appears to mostly be a deregulatory document aimed at speeding up the approval and construction of AI data centers. AMD saw some of the fruits of this de-regulation on July 15, when the Commerce Department apparently told AMD that it would soon approve shipments of the company's MI308 AI chip to China. Like Nvidia's H20, the MI308 is AMD's toned-down version of its Instinct GPU for the Chinese market. AMD had warned last quarter that the restrictions of the MI308 could cost the company up to $800 million in writedowns. But now, AMD is set to realize that revenue, which is also likely to come at high margins. Finally, South Korean news outlet Newsis reported that AMD has raised the price of its Instinct MI350 AI accelerator from $15,000 to $25,000, good for a 67% increase. Although the hasn't confirmed it yet, if true, the price increase could indicate increased demand for the Instinct at major cloud companies. Up until now, AMD may have had to cut prices for major AI customers to try the Instinct over Nvidia's Blackwell chips. The price increase apparently shows that there's enough demand for Instinct and its price-performance characteristics. While the Instinct systems are still probably priced at a discount to Nvidia's Blackwell, the price increase seems to show AMD is more confident about Instinct's competitiveness. AMD reports today Investors will get more information when AMD reports earnings after the close today. Analysts expect revenue of $7.43 billion and earnings per share of $0.48, good for 27% and 30% growth, respectively. The stock has had a great run off the April lows, more than doubling to trade at 44 times this year's earnings estimates. So it may be difficult for AMD to top those lofty expectations, at least in the near term. Should you buy stock in Advanced Micro Devices right now? Pfizer raises 2025 profit forecast as cost-cutting gains traction

STORY: Pfizer raised its full-year profit forecast on Tuesday (August 5). It said it expects to benefit from cost-cutting and a weaker dollar. The drugmaker's shares have lost more than half their value from their pandemic-era highs. It's faced falling revenue from COVID products and looming patent expirations for key drugs. The company launched cost-saving measures last year across its manufacturing and research operations in response. Pfizer said it was on track to deliver $7.2 billion in net savings from the programs by the end of 2027. The pharmaceutical industry faces added pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to lower prices Americans pay for prescription medicines. It is also preparing for 15% tariffs on imports from the EU. Pfizer said its forecast absorbs the impact of the currently imposed tariffs on goods imported from China, Canada and Mexico. The drugmaker also beat Wall Street estimates in its second-quarter results Tuesday. It scored total quarterly sales of $14.65 billion - ahead of analyst forecasts by $1 billion. Trump says he will meet China's Xi if a trade deal is struck

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -President Donald Trump said on Tuesday the U.S. was close to a trade deal with China and that he would meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping before the end of the year if an agreement is struck. "He asked for a meeting, and I'll end up having a meeting before the end of the year most likely, if we make a deal. If we don't make a deal, I'm not going to have a meeting," Trump told CNBC in an interview referring to China's Xi. "We're getting very close to a deal. We're getting along with China very well," Trump said. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said last week he believed the U.S. had the "makings of a deal" with China after officials from the two countries met in Stockholm in a bid to resolve economic disputes aimed at extending their truce on a trade war by three months. China is facing an August 12 deadline to reach a durable tariff agreement with the U.S. administration, after Beijing and Washington reached preliminary deals in May and June to end escalating tit-for-tat tariffs and a cut-off of rare earth minerals. Without a deal, global supply chains could face renewed turmoil from U.S. duties snapping back to triple-digit levels that would amount to a bilateral trade embargo. Speaking to CNBC, Trump also said his administration would soon impose tariffs on U.S. imports of pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and chips, which is expected to impact China.
