TG mulls new scheme for regularisation of houses
As many as 50,000 applications are pending before the government and most of them were received from Rangareddy, Hyderabad and Medchal districts before the Congress came to power in the state in December 2023, top officials said, adding that the previous government had regularized the houses built up to 125 yards free of cost. Those who constructed houses on 125-250 yards, have been asked to pay 25 per cent of the market value of the land in the respective areas.
A penalty fee of 50 per cent of the market value of the land was fixed for the houses built on plots between 250 and 500 yards and 75 per cent fee to the houses constructed in the area between 500 and 750 yards and 100 per cent fee was collected from the houses constructed above 750 yards.
Sensing some discrepancies took place in the regularization process earlier, the Congress government withheld the GO and stopped issuing conveyance deeds immediately after coming to power in 2023. All the applications were also under scrutiny in the wake of allegations of involvement of BRS leaders' role in the encroachment of the government lands.
Soon after verification of the applications, the government will take a call and announce a new scheme for the regularization of the illegally constructed houses.
'The government is reviewing the fee structure under GO 59 and revising them according to the current market value of the lands finalized by the Gram Panchayats and Municipal Administration and Urban Development,' officials explained. Accordingly, the fee for regularization will also be enhanced.
Recently, the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) generated a good amount of revenue for the government. The new scheme is expected to add more funds to the state's coffers in the wake of the government facing fund crunch in the 2025-26 financial year.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday termed as 'baseless and irresponsible' Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's claim his party had uncovered an 'atom bomb' of evidence proving voters lists were manipulated on a large scale, and said that it ignores such statements. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said the Congress began investigating after noticing irregularities during the Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Lok Sabha elections. 'What we found is an atom bomb. When it explodes, you won't be able to see the Election Commission in India.' ECI said it had sent a mail to Gandhi on June 12 after previous allegations, but had not received a response. The latest accusation comes amid a broader protest by the opposition INDIA bloc over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral rolls, which they claim is a BJP-backed attempt to disenfranchise voters. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had also blamed the poll body on July 6, saying, 'With the cooperation of the Election Commission, the BJP's master plan to deprive crores in Bihar of their voting rights now seems to be ensnaring them. Rising construction costs hinder progress of PMAY-G scheme in Mys and Ch'nagar
Mysuru: The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G), the flagship rural housing scheme aimed at providing houses to the homeless in rural areas, is facing significant delays in the twin districts of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar, largely due to the soaring cost of construction materials and labour. In Mysuru district, 20,908 houses were sanctioned for the fiscal year 2024-25. However, only 64.4% progress has been achieved so far, while Chamarajanagar district achieved only 27.2% progress. Against the target of constructing 20,908 houses in Mysuru district, 13,462 beneficiaries have taken up the construction of their houses after receiving the allotment letter. The remaining 7,466 beneficiaries who were identified are still waiting for the allotment sanction letter. In Chamarajanagar district, of the 39,317 houses targeted for construction this fiscal, only 10,681 have been sanctioned. That leaves a backlog of 28,636 houses yet to be built in the district. Houseless people living in kutcha houses with walls and roofs made out of mud, grass, and other non-durable materials, living in one room, were identified as beneficiaries. Under the scheme, the Union govt provides Rs 1.2 lakh grants for the construction of a house for general category candidates and Rs 1.8 lakh for SC/ST beneficiaries. In addition to this, the beneficiaries can also claim Rs 31,410 for 90 days of work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. The ZP also provides Rs 12,000 to general category candidates for the construction of individual toilets and Rs 20,000 for SC/ST beneficiaries separately under the Swachh Bharat Mission. "Govt must increase the grants provided for the construction of houses under the scheme as beneficiaries struggle to complete the construction of houses with less grants of Rs 1.2 lakh for the general category and Rs 1.8 lakh for SC/STs when prices of steel, cement, labour charges, and other construction materials and expenditures are increasing day by day," said HM Sambram, former president of Benakanahalli GP of T Narasipura taluk. Speaking to TOI, Mysuru zilla panchayat chief executive officer S Ukesh Kumar said Mysuru district stood first in the state in the implementation of the scheme when compared to other districts. "Some other districts achieved only 10%," he stated. The CEO said all panchayat development officers will be instructed to expedite the construction of the houses under the scheme.
