Man arrested in connection with fatal shooting on Des Moines' east side

A Des Moines man has been arrested in connection with a shooting on Wednesday, July 2, that killed one man. Tywone Morrow, 31, was charged with first-degree murder, a Class A felony, and assault on a police officer, an aggravated misdemeanor, according to a news release from the Des Moines Police Department. Just after 12:15 a.m. on July 2, DMPD responded to a report of a shooting at 3600 Kennedy Drive. The caller heard multiple gunshots and saw a person on the ground outside of an apartment building, according to a news release from Sgt. Paul Parizek. Officers found an adult male who had been shot and provided first aid at the scene. He was taken to UnityPoint Methodist Medical Center, where he died just after 4 a.m. Evidence from the investigation indicates that Morrow shot and killed the victim during an argument, police alleged in a news release. Following an investigation, detectives and patrol officers stopped a vehicle Morrow was traveling in on Des Moines' west side. Morrow spat on an officer's face while being taken into custody, the news release said. Morrow is being booked into the Polk County Jail. The victim's name will be released once his family is notified, police said. This article originally appeared on Des Moines Register: Des Moines man arrested in connection with fatal shooting

Another grooming arrest for Indianola man who had EMT license suspended

INDIANOLA, Iowa — An Indianola man already facing grooming charges has been arrested again on the same charge in a separate case. Jeremy McCormick, 37, was arrested last week and charged with grooming, a Class D felony, following an investigation by the Indianola Police Department. He posted bond and is expected to be in court again on June 18th. The complaint filed in the case said police were contacted in April by the alleged victim, who claimed McCormick had offered them drinks while they were underage and offered to take them to Victoria's Secret 'to get something sexy.' DMPD seek help to find suspect in violent assault with a shoe The incidents happened during June and August of 2024, while the alleged victim was working for McCormick. The complaint said McCormick made the victim so uncomfortable that they stopped working for him. In January, he was charged with two counts of grooming after the Warren County Sheriff's Office investigated incidents allegedly involving two teen girls, ages 15 and 16. Criminal complaints claim he took them on a shopping trip to eastern Iowa, bought them underwear at Victoria's Secret, and asked for pictures of the teens wearing the items. Due to the charges, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services suspended his EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification. McCormick's trial on the first two grooming charges is scheduled for October 9th, 2025.
