#SHOWBIZ: Barbarik to sing popular songs with Wings at upcoming concert
Producer, composer, and Barbarik's guitarist, JoBranko, said that Barbarik became a platform to reunite two former members of Wings—himself and Muss—after more than two decades of being unable to move away from performing songs from their previous band.
"Actually, at the concert, we can choose any songs to perform," he said.
"And the songs we want to perform just happen to be ones I composed, so there shouldn't be any problem at all."
He did, however, add that concertgoers can anticipate a fresh rendition of those songs at next month's concert.
He further explained that as Barbarik's album, 'Peluru Cokelat', launched late last year, features only six new songs, the band will also need to perform songs he composed with their previous band, Wings.
"This is because there will be fans who want to listen to those songs too, so we'll give them a little bit of what they want to hear," he remarked.
"Some may not be familiar with Barbarik's music just yet and prefer those older songs."
He made these comments at a press conference held yesterday.

#SHOWBIZ: Awie to Amy Search: 'Take responsibility, tell the truth'
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian rock icon Datuk Awie has urged Datuk Amy of Search to step forward and provide a truthful explanation regarding an issue currently being hotly debated by netizens, which has also implicated him. In a post on his Facebook page, the 57-year-old vocalist of the band Wings, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Othman, said that Amy's explanation was crucial to clear his name. He added that he was weary of continually explaining himself, especially as several netizens on social media had mentioned his name. "Amy Search, tell the truth. Stop all these foolish people from accusing me. Take responsibility for this; tell the truth. "I'm tired of having to read and answer for what you've done," he wrote. However, Awie did not elaborate on the specific issue his name was associated with. Earlier, the police confirmed receiving a report from singer Shila Amzah, who claimed she was publicly insulted by a legendary artiste during a concert rehearsal on Thursday. In a Harian Metro report today, Kuala Lumpur Deputy Police Chief, Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, confirmed that a report was made by Shila, whose real name is Nurshahila Amir Amzah, on July 10, at 5.31pm at the Dang Wangi Police Station. Awie, Amy and Shila had performed together at the MR. D.I.Y 20th Anniversary concert, held at Stadium Merdeka, here, last night. Awie's direct appeal to Amy now puts the onus on the 'Isabella' singer to shed light on the unfolding drama.

'Stage 0.1' photography book takes rock fans both front stage and backstage
'I dedicate this book especially to the musicians who are the backbone of the industry - those working behind the scenes. This book is for them,' said Tapa. Photo: Bernama In a significant step towards expanding the documentation of Malaysia's visual art, the National Art Gallery has, for the first time, published a rock concert photography book: Stage 0.1 by Mustaffa Ahmad Hidzir, a renowned veteran photographer and album cover designer. Spanning 240 pages, the book by Mustaffa - better known as Tapa Otai - offers a rich visual journey through Malaysia's rock music scene. Featuring around 300 photographs, it blends electrifying live moments with intimate behind-the-scenes glimpses and portraits of often-overlooked musicians whose quiet presence forms the backbone of every performance. Tapa's new photography book is also the long-awaited follow-up to his award-winning 12x12 Album Cover Design (2017), which showcased the best of his Malaysian album cover artworks dating as far back as the late 1970s. Tapa Otai, 70, shared that the idea for the Stage 0.1 book came after a chat with film director Dr U-Wei Saari. 'U-Wei asked me what I'd done with all the concert photos I'd taken over the years. I told him I just kept them. Later, we met again, and he suggested I publish a book,' said Tapa in an interview with Bernama at the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur. Published through the National Art Gallery's collaborative publishing platform, Tapa's 240-page book brings together around 300 images from local rock concerts, including rarely photographed portraits of the behind-the-scenes musicians who seldom find themselves in the camera's spotlight. Photo: Bernama The veteran photographer, who still actively attends live concerts, explained that Stage 0.1 is meant to shine a spotlight on musicians who often go unnoticed, while also featuring a few well-known names to enhance its appeal. 'I dedicate this book especially to the musicians who are the backbone of the industry - those working behind the scenes. This book is for them,' he said. 'I don't focus too much on singers, but I've also included photos of big names like Datuk M. Nasir, Datuk Ramli Sarip, Wings, and Search to add to its appeal.' National Art Gallery Publications Branch curator Mohd Fairus Ismail said the release of Stage 0.1 marks part of the gallery's fresh approach to documenting Malaysia's music and cultural scene. With his all-access concert pass, Tapa Otai captures the raw heat and energy of Malaysia's rock scene. Photo: Bernama 'This initiative began while we were planning an exhibition on social, cultural, and musical issues from 1979 to 1989. During our research, we discovered Tapa Otai's photographs, which had captured many key moments in the local rock scene,' said Fairus. When Tapa expressed interest in publishing a book based on his collection, the gallery supported the project through its collaborative publishing platform, which also handles printing and limited distribution at the gallery. Fairus added that Stage 0.1 isn't just a collection of concert photos, but an important visual archive that highlights the often-overlooked musicians and crew - the real heartbeat behind every show. Previously kept private, many of these images are now shared with the public for the first time. The book is currently available at the National Art Gallery bookshop and on Shopee for RM180.

Rock in the Jungle 2.0 set to electrify Sarawak Cultural Village this August
Several RiTJ 2.0 line-up members pose for a group photo during the recent briefing session. KUCHING (July 7): The much-anticipated Rock in the Jungle (RiTJ) festival is set to return for its second edition on Aug 29 and 30, promising another round of electrifying performances at the Sarawak Cultural Village. This year's installment will showcase six powerhouse acts over two days, including two renowned Indonesian rock bands and for the first time, an international metal act from Japan. Following its successful debut last year, RiTJ is back 'louder, bolder, and more electrifying', said RiTJ 2.0 event administrator Nur Linda Bara Abdullah. 'The festival remains rooted in celebrating rock music in harmony with the beauty of nature,' she shared during a press briefing at the Star on Stage venue, last Saturday. RiTJ spokesperson Zaini Zainuddin stated that the festival aims to attract 12,000 attendees, doubling last year's turnout of approximately 5,700. He noted improvements were made following feedback from the inaugural edition. 'We've learnt from our weaknesses. Last year's lineup included classic rock bands like Sweet Charity and Wings, which appealed to older audiences. 'This year, we've added bands like Nice Stupid Playground to engage younger fans,' Zaini said. One major highlight this year is the inclusion of international talent beyond Southeast Asia, with Japan's legendary band Loudness joining the act. 'Last year, we didn't have any artistes from outside the Asean region. This year, we're stepping up,' said Zaini. Zaini shared that securing Loudness was seamless, as the band had already expressed interest in performing in Sarawak. Zaini said the organisers are targetting 12,000 attendees over the two days of RiTJ 2.0. – Photos by Jude Toyat 'It has always been a dream to give rock its own platform in Sarawak. We know there is a strong underground scene here. Now it's time to take scale up and if support remains strong, this could become an annual event,' he added. The line-up also includes prominent names like Gigi and Kotak, alongside Sarawakian performers, creating opportunities for local bands to share the stage with major regional and international acts. 'Last year, we featured bands from Kuala Lumpur. This year, we've intentionally brought in Indonesian acts alongside Sarawakian bands. 'It's important for our local performers to experience the pride of sharing the same stage with these big names,' Zaini said, adding that the organisers are committed to making RiTJ inclusive. The event, he noted, will welcome attendees from all walks of life, including children and persons with disabilities (OKU), and will embrace a 'jiwa rock' spirit – a celebration of diversity and freedom in music. Tickets are available at with early bird rates open until Aug 5. A press conference for RiTJ, featuring Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, is expected to be held next week. concert entertainment lead Nur Linda Bara Abdullah Rock In The Jungle
