Stratford Library Hosting Award Winning Authors For Free Event – Mysteries By The Mountain
Ngaio Marsh Awards winner and New Plymouth novelist Jacqueline Bublitz is joined by fellow award-winning Taranaki author Steph Matuku (Ngāti Mutunga, Ngāti Tama, Te Atiawa), and Melbourne-based sports columnist turned debut author Geoff Parkes (originally from King Country), to discuss creating memorable characters and page-turning stories, the impact of people and place, and what inspires them as writers.
This mid-winter mystery meeting is a free event, but registrations are required as numbers are limited.

About Ngaio Marsh Awards:
This year is the 15th anniversary season of the Ngaio Marsh Awards. The Ngaio Marsh Awards are literary awards presented annually in New Zealand to recognise excellence in crime fiction, mystery, and thriller writing. The Awards were established by journalist and legal editor Craig Sisterson in 2010, and are named after Dame Ngaio Marsh, one of the four Queens of Crime of the Golden Age of Detective Fiction.

Originally from Lima, Perú, she's championed underrepresented voices across the indie and Latinx music scenes (Omar Apollo, Cuco + more). Adam Ryan – Festival Programmer, The Great Escape (UK) The Head of Music at The Great Escape, programming 500+ artists across 90 stages. A longtime champion of emerging talent, he's helped launch early shows for Stormzy, Skepta, The 1975, Mac De Marco, Royal Blood, Jon Hopkins, and more, while curating for global brands like TikTok, Amazon Music, and Fred Perry. Installation focuses on AI's power

PHOTO: SUPPLIED/DAVID ZANARDI A thought-provoking, award-winning outdoor exhibition, filled with AI, is opening to the public at Queenstown Central shopping centre this weekend. "Whispering Mountains on the Path to Artificial Happiness" is part of a larger installation, "The Modern Guru on the Path to Artificial Happiness", which has appeared in six different countries. The brainchild of Melbourne-based art and tech studio ENESS, "Whispering Mountains" is being set up in the Town Square, beside The Pavilion. ENESS, led by artist and founder Nimrod Weis, was established in 1997 — its multi-disciplinary team explore the intersection between the virtual and physical world through interactive public art, combining sculpture, textiles, design, furniture, software development, music and story. The exhibition is designed to be a provocation, posing questions about modern digital culture, considering AI is the first technology in the history of humanity capable of writing its own stories. "What does the ominous capacity mean for the future of human cultural output?" a blurb about "Whispering Mountains" says. "Will literature and new religious texts — sources of wisdom throughout history — still bear the mark of human hands, or will AI begin to rewrite the future?" "Whispering Mountains" will be interactive through to mid-evening daily from tomorrow until August 2.
