Sunderland's Romaine Mundle reveals surgery has been a success

Sunderland winger Romaine Mundle has revealed he has successfully undergone surgery as he prepares for the start of the Premier League season.
A day after reports emerged that the 22-year-old had suffered an unspecified injury during the club's pre-season training camp in Portugal, he posted a photograph of himself recovering in a hospital bed on his official Instagram account.
The image was accompanied by a post which read: 'Devastated to be here writing this message and words can't fully describe the emotions attached to this setback.
https://www.instagram.com/p/DMTKP3LqF9L/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading
'Sometimes it's hard to find the positives in situations like these, but without a doubt I'll be back better physically.
'Surgery was a success and the road to recovery begins now. Although it has been a difficult period for me over the last few days, this is only a minor setback and I will be back better than before.'
It remains to be seen how long Mundle, who has been linked with a summer move away from Wearside in recent days with Ligue 1 Monaco and Eredivisie PSV Eindhoven linked with moves for the pacy midfielder, will be out of action.
However, his misfortune will come as blow to head coach Regis Le Bris, whose side was in friendly action against Spanish outfit Sevilla on Saturday evening at the Estadio Algarve in Faro just four weeks before they renew acquaintances with the English top flight when West Ham visit the Stadium of Light.

Alexander Isak transfer saga drags on amid Eddie Howe 'clueless' claim

Alexander Isak is looking to force his way out of Newcastle and towards Liverpool. (Image: PA) Liverpool are back home and gearing up to face Athletic Bilbao twice at Anfield tomorrow, with Arne Slot's entire squad set to be handed some minutes with a week to go until the FA Community Shield against Crystal Palace at Wembley. But all the focus for now remains on whether they can bring in Alexander Isak from Newcastle. A deal of £110m has been rejected by the Toon, who want significantly more for their star striker because he has three years to run on his contract. He was also set to return to the North East from Spain this weekend. And while Liverpool have already spent close to £300m on new signings they are under no PSR pressure having already sold several fringe members of the squad while commercial and matchday revenues have grown substantially. Here are the transfer stories worth keeping an eye on as the new season rapidly approaches READ MORE: Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd learn Sesko price, Chelsea agree Hato deal, Liverpool to make Isak move Eddie Howe admits he is clueless over where Alexander Isak 's future lies after Liverpool 's rejected bid. Isak remains away from the rest of his Magpies teammates, who are in the middle of their pre-season tour of Asia, after requesting to leave St James' Park. Liverpool made their first effort to sign him earlier this week having lodged a £110m bid. That was immediately rebuffed by Newcastle, who want closer to £150m, with Liverpool now prepared to walk away from any potential deal if they feel it can't be done. Amid the drama, Howe has given an update and said that he has had no contact with his star striker, while he cannot predict his immediate future. Eddie Howe has offered an update on Alexander Isak's future (Image: Getty Images) If Liverpool are to get their hands on Newcastle United talisman Alexander Isak this summer, they'll need him to "throw his toys out the pram." That's according to former Magpies forward Les Ferdinand, who affirmed his old club are "under no pressure" to cash in. "They signed him on a big contract and he's still got a few years left with them, so they're under no pressure to sell unless he throws his toys out the pram," Ferdinand said. The Reds are set to see their transfer pot replenished even further after agreeing a £15million deal to sell Tyler Morton to Lyon. The midfielder looks to be on the way to the east of France after a package including a 20 per cent sell-on clause was deemed worthy of the player's exit. Morton, 22, helped England win the European under-21 Championships this summer and had been linked to Ipswich Town but nobody has matched Lyon's offer. The academy graduate has been present in Arne Slot's pre-season plans but failed to make a Premier League appearance under the Dutchman last term. The departure will continue a summer that has seen a number of exits from Anfield as Liverpool haul in fees to supplment their significant spending. The Reds have already raked in £65m for Luis Diaz from Bayern Munich, £35m from Bayer Leverkusen for Jarell Quansah, £18m for Caoimhin Kelleher, £10m for Trent Alexander-Arnold and £3m for Nat Phillips. Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta may see five stars sold amid Eberechi Eze chase

Arsenal's busy summer transfer window could continue with a deal for Eberechi Eze but focus is now turning to sales with five players potentially heading for the Emirates exit Arsenal are back in London following their pre-season tour of Asia, with Mikel Arteta's much-changed squad now fine tuning ahead of a friendly against Villarreal at the Emirates on Wednesday evening. ‌ And with a fortnight to go before their Premier League campaign begins with a trip to Manchester United, the Gunners continue to be linked with a deal for Crystal Palace and England star Eberechi Eze. ‌ That, however, may require a number of players to exit the club and reports suggest five different members of the first-team squad could potentially move on. ‌ Here are the transfer tales from in and around the Emirates to keep an eye on. Five sales Mikel Arteta could bid farewell to five of his squad before the close of the transfer window, according to the Daily Mail. Reiss Nelson is the most likely to head off amid admiring glances from Fulham and his departure would see the Gunners' wage bill trimmed by £100,000 per week. Oleksandr Zinchenko, who earns £150,000, is also for sale, while Fabio Vieira is far down the pecking order but has garnered some interest from West Ham and Albert Sambi Lokonga is another allowed to leave. Then there is Leandro Trossard, whom Arsenal want to sign a new contract but is on a shortlist of targets at Borussia Dortmund. ‌ Eze latest Eberechi Eze remains a potential addition before the transfer window closes but there remains a significant hurdle - the asking price. BBC Sport now report that Arsenal have "shown no inclination of triggering the forward's release fee", with the Gunners looking to sell before they make any more new signings. The report adds that Arsenal value Eze at less than £68m and "want to negotiate a deal beneath the agreement." Palace have so far been unwilling to negotiate a lower fee, but it is claimed that may change later in the window. ‌ Gyokeres' respect Viktor Gyokeres has refused to follow his agent in criticising former club Sporting CP for how they dealt with his summer move. The 27-year-old's Premier League switch was dragged out until last week, with clashes over a gentleman's agreement and a hefty fine issued. Gyokeres, having established himself as one of Europe's finest goalscorers with 97 goals in 104 appearances for Sporting, always looked destined to make a big switch this window. He joined the Gunners last weekend for a fee rising to £63.7million, having also been courted by Manchester United, who he chose to snub. "I don't need to throw mud at anyone," began the Swede, who made his first appearance for the Gunners against bitter rivals Tottenham on Thursday in Hong Kong. "I don't need to say what others have done or decided. "I don't do that, even though there are people who seem to need to tell others how to behave. I'm not like that. As a footballer, you always strive to reach the top. I felt ready to take the next step, and I believe many people at the club expected that before the season ended. Man Utd set low asking price to sell Rasmus Hojlund after Benjamin Sesko bid

Manchester United are willing to sell Rasmus Hojlund for £30 million this summer, according to reports. United are in talks with RB Leipzig to sign Benjamin Sesko but are facing strong competition from Newcastle for the 22-year-old. Newcastle's offer worth €80 million (£69.8m), including €75m (£65.5m) up front, has been rejected by RB Leipzig, while United are yet to make a bid. Hojlund, meanwhile, struggled to make an impact for United last season, scoring just four goals in 32 Premier League appearances, while the 22-year-old also faced criticism over his link-up play in attack. United signed Hojlund for an initial £64 million fee from Atalanta two years ago and according to BBC Sport, the club would allow the Denmark international to leave Old Trafford this summer if their £30m asking price is met. AC Milan are among the clubs who are considering a move for Hojlund, who is currently with Ruben Amorim's squad as they prepare for the final game of their pre-season tour of the United States against Everton on Sunday. Speaking this week, Hojlund made it clear that he wants to fight for his place at United. 'The most important [thing] for me is to keep working hard and stay focused and then we'll see what happens,' Hojlund said. 'My plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot. 'Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me. I'm more than ready.' More Trending Meanwhile, Amorim has refused to rule out the prospect of United selling Hojlund before the end of the summer window. 'I'm really happy with Rasmus but I don't know what is going to happen until the end of the market,' Amorim said. 'The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals. He's connecting really well with the team. He's improving. 'I don't know what is going to happen until the market is closed. We suffered a lot because of the lack of goals last season.'
