Singer Ronnie Liang alarmed after scammers used his identity to court women

Ronnie Liang (pic) issued a warning to his followers after he was informed that scammers have been using his photos and even his voice to produce deepfake videos.
The singer took to his Instagram page on Thursday, June 19, to show the deepfake video in which he supposedly greeted a fan. Liang also shared screenshots of the scammers' conversations with their victims.
'This is a fake video! Do not believe this!' he said in the caption. 'This video is very alarming. This is made by AI (artificial intelligence).'
Liang added that he had already received complaints that other deepfake videos of him have been circulating on social media.
'The fake video is used to ask for money, court Filipinas and foreigners, and encourage people to invest in crypto,' he lamented.
'Please be informed that I did not make any videos to solicit crypto investments, ask for money, or even ask for bank accounts and e-wallets,' he stressed.
Several celebrities were equally alarmed as Liang, including Jessa Zaragoza, Rocco Nacino and Melissa Ricks who expressed concern over their matter via the comments section.
Just recently, Filipino singer Gary Valenciano also posed a warning after his identity was used in a fake video advertisement of a supposed treatment for cancer. – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network

Frankfurt Book Fair 2025 hosts guest country Philippines

Photo: AFP The Philippines will be presenting its literature as guest of honour at this year's Frankfurt Book Fair, which runs from Oct 15-19, the organisers have said. "This year, we are opening a window to the Pacific," Book Fair Director Juergen Boos said at the presentation of the guest country programme in Frankfurt on Thursday. The appearance will also help to "dispel clichés," he said. The Philippines consists of 7,641 islands and, in addition to the official language Filipino, there are more than 130 other languages. The Philippines will bring "a multitude of voices to Frankfurt," said the initiator of the guest country appearance, Loren Legarda. The country has interesting perspectives on natural disasters and colonialism, dictatorship and diaspora, visions of the future and the threat of climate change, she said. The architect responsible for the Guest of Honour Pavilion at the exhibition grounds, Stanley Ruiz, said it will mainly feature materials typical of the country such as shells, bamboo and pineapple fabric. Visitors will be able to discover the most important works of Philippine literature, the organizers said. Before and after the book fair, visitors can also experience Philippine culture at exhibitions, concerts and film evenings throughout Germany. Around 100 delegates will be travelling to the event, according to the organisers. A special feature will be the so-called FlipTop Rap Battles - competitions involving spoken word - which are particularly popular in the Philippines. - dpa

Asked about an amusing 'core memory' from making the teen sitcom co-starring her father, Miley said: 'Dad smoking pot and everyone blaming me for it.' Tish said she remembered the drama, noting that once everyone realised it was actually Billy Ray toking on the set, people on the show kept calling her to say 'B-Ray was smoking pot.' She said she refused to believe it at the time, and tried blaming Miley's co-star Mitchel Musso instead. 'It was Mitchel Musso! It was both,' Miley replied with a laugh. During the episode, the famous family also addressed when Tish 'mysteriously' – as Miley teased – unfollowed her on Instagram last month, prompting speculation about the state of their relationship. Miley at the time dismissed the rumour mill, saying that though she 'rarely' bothers weighing in on the grapevine, her mum is her 'best friend' and the two 'are too tight for anything to ever come between us.'
