World War II series based on 'one of the greatest books ever' is now available to stream
A "must-watch" World War II series is currently available to stream. The gripping drama features an ensemble cast and is based on "one of the greatest books ever written".
Telly fans are being urged to make sure to catch the mini-series while it is readily available, with viewers hailing the "amazing" cast and "wonderful" retelling of the book.
Hulu series Catch-22 first appeared on the small screen in 2019, as an adaptation of Joseph Heller's celebrated 1961 novel of the same name.
The series follows the journey of Captain John Yossarian (played by Christopher Abbott) and his comrades during World War II as they carry out their duties for their country.
Their freedom depends on finishing a set number of operations. Yet, precisely when they approach their liberation, the mission tally is consistently raised, throwing them back into danger, reports the Express.
The ensemble cast also features George Clooney as Scheisskopf, Emmy-winning Argo star Kyle Chandler as Colonel Cathcart, Godfather of Harlem's Rafi Gavron as Aarfy, Reacher's Daniel David Stewart as Milo, and Major Crimes' Graham Patrick Martin as Orr, amongst others.
One TV fan gave the show a 10/10 rating on IMDb. They said: "Fantastic. The entire cast of this series is amazing.
"It has all the drama and humor but not as slapstick as the movie. I've been glued to the TV since it was released. You will fall in love with these characters and the actors who portray them."
A second viewer commented: "Wonderful rendering of the classic satirical novel. This is a very enjoyable watch, especially if you read the book and saw the movie.
"The acting is superb and the battle scenes are realistic but not too graphically violent. I appreciate a director and writer who do not feel they must gross us out at every turn. It has a nice subtlety and that was lacking in the original movie."
Another reviewer praised it as: "One of the greatest books ever written, certainly as an anti-war film."
Speaking about Abbott's performance as John Yossarian, they added: "His face is so emotive and he captured the complexity of his character."
Wrapping up, they wrote: "For those of you who totally missed the point and were expecting a regular war movie, did you get what the title means?"
A fourth viewer hailed it as "a must watch" and said: "Perfect mix of comedy and drama. Made me laugh one second and get emotional the next."

Fans bewildered by actor 'set to replace' Jesse Eisenberg in Social Network 2
Fans have been left baffled at the prospect of an actor replacing star Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg in the sequel to The Social Network. They've called the move 'odd' and questioned its impact on the film's success. There's been a flurry of reports regarding a sequel to the 2010 Oscar-winning movie about the birth of social media platform Facebook and its founder. In June, it was said that original writer Aaron Sorkin had found the right angle for the second movie after teasing the possibility for years and was confirmed to direct it as well, replacing original director David Fincher. According to Deadline, insiders revealed its title was currently The Social Network Part II although it was 'not a straight sequel' to the first movie, which also featured actors Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, Max Minghella and Armie Hammer. Since then, the publication has reported that Sorkin is also keen to cast this year's best actress Academy Award winner Mikey Madison, from Anora, and The Bear's Jeremy Allen White, who will soon be seen in the lead role in Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere. But the latest report reveals that Succession star Jeremy Strong is being eyed by Sorkin to play Zuckerberg, whose company has rebranded as Meta, having had a meeting with the filmmaker. As per The Hollywood Reporter, a source claimed that A Real Pain star and scribe Eisenberg – who was nominated for an Oscar for his work in the first film – had 'passed, at least at this time' on the opportunity to reprise the role. 'As much as I love Jeremy Strong he needs to pass on this. This will not help his career. Without Eisenberg, they should cancel this or find a way into the story without Zuckerberg as a character,' announced @WhereIsBatman89 on X, while another fan insisted: 'Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg or this movie is dead on arrival.' 'We do not want him. Bring Jesse back,' commented Poppy, while @DxTCinema asked: 'Why why why we want Jesse.' Meanwhile fan Chandler called the casting rumour 'odd' and others shared their confusion over a lack of immediate similarity in Strong's and Zuckerberg's looks. 'Ah yes that's perfect they look like twins,' quipped Michael K, while Joelyn added: 'The resemblance is uncanny.' But others were thrilled at the prospect of Strong, who also impressed with his turn as Donald Trump's ruthless mentor Roy Cohn in The Apprentice – for which he was Oscar nominated for best supporting actor. 'YUP let's go. His Oscar is loading,' tweeted Mikayla Davis, with Abhinav adding: 'This cast is WILD. If the script hits, we're looking at another awards season sweep.' 'Trying to be calm about this but Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg is one of the most insane casting coups in history, like we need to give them an Oscar for even thinking about this,' enthused @paaarth319. The Social Network Part II will focus on Facebook's role in the light of the spreading of misinformation ahead of the attempted coup on January 6, 2021 in America, as well as its impact on its young users and violence, and in countries beyond the US too. More Trending It's understood Madison, if she accepts the role, would play whistleblower Frances Haugen, the data engineer who went to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Wall Street Journal. White would be former WSJ tech reporter Jeff Horwitz, who wrote the publication's explosive Facebook Files series of articles based on her information. There was also recognition that Strong could be in contention for a role other than that of Zuckerberg, as there is said to be a part available as a WSJ editor too. Gavin and Stacey reveals plans for James Corden and Ruth Jones' new TV show
What's occurin'? Well if you read on you can find out all about a new TV project from Gavin and Stacey writers James Corden and Ruth Jones as they reunite for a new project Mathew Horne has revealed Gavin & Stacey creators James Corden and Ruth Jones are already working on a new TV project. The duo have said they hoped to work together again after their hit BBC sitcom, but Mathew's revelation means work has already begun. Mathew also said he is hoping for his own mini reunion on stage, as he and actor TV host James have discussed teaming up for a theatre project in 2026. It comes after ITV fans accuse Alan Titchmarsh of 'ruining' garden as foster parents were left sobbing. Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones split as he joins a notorious dating app on a lads' holiday Taylor Swift sparks engagement rumours as fans spot Travis Kelce's lock screen Asked 'Will you work with any of the Gavin & Stacey stars again?', Mathew replied: 'I would love to work with James and Ruth again. In fact James and I have been discussing doing a play because we are both going back into the theatre for a while – but not in the same play. James and I have been talking about doing a play, maybe next year or maybe the year after that. "And as for Ruth, she is writing her novels at the moment. And she has written a new novel (By Your Side) and it is all set on a fictional island in Scotland and my heritage is Scottish, I am actually mostly Scottish by blood. So I am hoping to get into something because a lot of her novels are going to be turned into TV stuff so I'd like to work with her on that level. 'And I know they are doing something with Apple at the moment, they are writing something for Apple. So I think my working relationship with both of them will continue but it may not be imminent but I think we definitely will come back together so that will be really exciting and I would jump at the chance to do that.' A source close to James Corden confirmed he was working on writing new projects with Ruth but said as well as Apple, a number of TV channels and streamers were keen to screen whatever they come up with. It is thought the most likely next series for them could be a comedy drama, as any sitcom would risk direct comparisons with Gavin & Stacey. Speaking in May at the BAFTAs, Ruth had said she wanted to make more TV with her friend and co-star. Ruth said: "I love working with James Corden, I really do, and I hope that we will carry on working together.' Actor Mathew, speaking at a talk he gave in Taunton on Thursday night, also said he was proud to have Gavin & Stacey on his CV and he didn't think there would be a Christmas audience ever again like the 22 million they managed last year in 2024 with the consolidated audience figure. The 90 minute special resolved the cliff hanger from five years before, when Nessa (Ruth Jones) asked Smithy (James Corden) to marry her. Mat, 46, explained: "It is already in the record books with 22 million people watching the show. To be an actor and have that on your CV…. even if my acting career is over and I hope it's not… I have done that! "That is on my CV and I have a lot of friends who are actors and they have gone through their careers without ever doing anything that their parents would be proud of or that their parents enjoyed watching. And I have got that in Gavin and Stacey. "Time will tell whether in 10, 15, 20 years and long, long after I have gone people will still be watching it. Gavin and Stacey is the best representation of love, friendship and family that I can think of. And I genuinely believe that is what is at the heart of the show - and as human beings, I believe, that is what gives us our meaning and that is what we are searching for. "The show does bring families together and going back to that finale at Christmas, maybe three or four generations of families sat in their living rooms and watched it on Christmas Day. The TV landscape at the moment is really up in the air because people watched television in different ways, on their phones, on laptops and they're pausing it and rewinding it. "So that idea of a whole family watching the same programme on the same day and in the same room.. I don't think this is ever going to happen again. I think that is the power of Gavin and Stacey as a show. It brings families together and it brings people together and all generations together." Officially Gavin & Stacey: The Finale is the UK's most-watched scripted show across all broadcasters and streamers since current records began in 2002, with ratings already at 19.3 million according to the latest data.
