IGP Razarudin conferred Singapore's Distinguished Service Order

SINGAPORE - Malaysia's Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain was conferred the Distinguished Service Order by Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the Istana on Wednesday.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a statement on Friday that the Order, instituted in 1968, may be awarded in special circumstances to individuals who have performed acts of distinguished conduct outside Singapore. The SPF said that Razarudin had emphasised the importance of close operational coordination between the two police forces, which had contributed to the fight against transnational crime, drug trafficking and terrorism. - Bernama file photo
"Under his leadership, the bilateral relationship between the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) and the SPF was strengthened, underpinned by close cooperation in the areas of investigation, intelligence exchanges, as well as capability building and training,' the statement said.
The SPF said that Razarudin had emphasised the importance of close operational coordination between the two police forces, which had contributed to the fight against transnational crime, drug trafficking and terrorism.
Singapore's Acting Commissioner of Police, Lian Ghim Hua, said the SPF deeply values its longstanding and steadfast partnership with the RMP.
"This close cooperation has strengthened our response to evolving cross-border challenges. We will continue to work closely with the RMP to combat transnational crime, as well as enhance joint operational effectiveness,' Lian said in the statement.
During his stay in Singapore, Razarudin also made courtesy calls on Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Lian. - BERNAMA

Razarudin handed over the reins as the country's top cop to Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail. He also called for Malaysia to host the Interpol General Assembly in 2028. 'Four officers will be directly involved with the Interpol Joint Working Group. 'As a show of trust, confidence and commitment of our officers, the leadership of the force will suggest to the government via the Home Minister that Malaysia hosts the Interpol General Assembly in 2028,' he said. Razarudin also said that enhancing training and human capital development of the police force begins at the basic policing training programme level through the police diploma programmes. 'Currently, one out of four diploma programmes, namely the Diploma in Police Management, successfully obtained accreditation under the Malaysian Qualifications Agency in May. 'The remaining accreditation for the three programmes is expected to be decided at the end of July,' he said. 'For the same purpose, instructors at the Police College are also required to possess at least a bachelor's degree to meet the necessary competency standards.'

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police's (PDRM) capability in tackling terrorism threats has not only been recognised at the regional level but also by global powers such as the United States, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He said this was evident in the trust placed by the US in PDRM's expertise to carry out the rehabilitation of two Malaysian detainees previously held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. 'This shows that in this particular case, the PDRM's Special Branch possesses expertise and competence that convinced a major power like the United States. 'It means we can stand as equals in efforts to address terrorism threats so they do not pose a danger within our own country,' he said during the handover ceremony of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) post at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here today. Media reports previously stated that the US had repatriated two Malaysian citizens in December 2024, after they had been detained at Guantanamo Bay for 18 years. The two individuals involved, Mohammed Farik Amin, 49, and Mohammed Nazir Lep, 48, are currently undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation process that includes social support services, welfare assistance, and health screening before being reunited with their families. Saifuddin said it was crucial for the country to have a capable IGP, such as the 14th IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who played a key role in the repatriation of the two men. He praised Razarudin's composure when engaging with various US agencies, including the CIA and FBI, in resolving the matter. Meanwhile, Saifuddin stressed that the appointment of an IGP was not an award but a responsibility and burden that must be shouldered with full accountability. He said this was because the IGP was not only accountable to the nation but also to the entire police force under his leadership.
