IND vs ENG Test: Ben Stokes breaks silence on handshake row: 'Let's not focus on those 20 minutes'
MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - JULY 27: England captain Ben Stokes speaks with India batsman Ravindra Jadeja after day five of the 4th Test Match between England and India at Emirates Old Trafford on July 27, 2025 in Manchester, England. (Photo by) England captain Ben Stokes, who will miss the final Test of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, finally broke his silence over the "handshake saga" that became the talking point of the Old Trafford Test last week. Drama unfolded in the high-intensity fourth Test after Indian batters Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar refused England skipper Ben Stokes' offer to call off the fourth Test and settle for a draw before the start of the final hour of play. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Having worked hard to earn a creditable draw, Jadeja and Washington, batting on 89 and 80 respectively, flatly refused Stokes' offer after he had approached the umpire, which irked the England skipper no end. Stokes had a few words to say as Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett were also seen enquiring as to why India wanted to carry on. "Do you want to score a hundred against Harry Brook?" Stokes asked sarcastically, and all Jadeja said was, "I can't do anything." Ben Stokes press conference: On handshake controversy, India fightback, his own fitness A smiling Jadeja maintained his grace and ticked them off, as India, as per rules, were well within their rights to carry on batting. Stokes defended his decision to offer the handshake to Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. "I understand why Jadeja and Sundar wanted to get their 100s, but I was not going to bowl my bowlers. We are over it, India are over it. Let's not focus on those 20 minutes; it has been a great series," Stokes told reporters on the eve of the Oval Test. Poll Do you think Ben Stokes was right to offer a draw to India during the Test match? Yes, it was a fair sportsmanship gesture No, they should have continued playing Unsure, depends on the context I don't follow cricket Stokes, who has led the team from the front and has claimed 17 wickets while scoring some vital runs with the bat, will miss out on the game at The Oval due to a shoulder injury, while Archer has been rested after making his return to Test cricket following a long gap of four years. Pacer Brydon Carse will also miss the final Test, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a press release on Wednesday. "Captain Ben Stokes is unavailable due to a right shoulder injury. Also missing out are spinner Liam Dawson and pace bowlers Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse. "England have included Jacob Bethell, who will bat at No. 6. Surrey bowlers Gus Atkinson and Jamie Overton come into the side, along with Nottinghamshire quick Josh Tongue," the ECB said. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

‘We take Mohammed Siraj for granted': Gambhir reminded as tireless pacer likely to spearhead attack again in final Test
Mohammed Siraj may not grab headlines as often as Jasprit Bumrah, but his relentless effort and high-voltage spells continue to play a pivotal role in India's campaign in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. As the five-Test series heads into its decider at The Oval, Siraj's performance has drawn strong praise from former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel, who believes the pacer's contributions are often overlooked. India's Mohammed Siraj gestures on the third day of the fourth cricket test match between England and India at Emirates Old Trafford(AP) Despite India trailing 2-1 in the series, Siraj has emerged as the third-highest wicket-taker across both sides, claiming 14 wickets in seven innings at an average of 39.71. Parthiv, speaking on 'Game Plan' on JioHotstar, shed light on the temperament and discipline Siraj brings to the Indian pace attack. 'We tend to take Mohammed Siraj for granted,' he said. 'The effort he puts in, the intensity, and the smile he wears — no matter the match situation — that's commendable.' The Hyderabad pacer has quietly turned into one of India's most dependable bowlers across formats, and his commitment to maintaining pace and aggression even during difficult spells has not gone unnoticed. While his average this series may not suggest complete dominance, Siraj's ability to break crucial partnerships and bowl with energy across long spells has helped India stay in the fight. Bumrah's workload concerns With Bumrah's workload under close scrutiny, Siraj has been expected to step up more than usual, and he has embraced that responsibility. It was reported by ESPNCricinfo last night that Bumrah is set to be rested for the Oval Test, putting the spotlight once again on Siraj, who is expected to lead the Indian pace attack. While there has been no official word on Bumrah's availability yet, Parthiv hopes the premier pacer has a fourth outing in this series at The Oval. 'We're all aware of how carefully his workload is being managed. It was announced at the press conference that he would play only three Tests, so there are a lot of factors to consider -- recovery, fitness, workload. But I would personally want to see him play the final one. Hopefully, the support staff travelling with the team can help him recover in time,' said Parthiv. As India aims to draw the series and share the trophy, a standout performance from Siraj, particularly in the absence of Bumrah, could prove decisive.
