Saudi Arabia launches direct shipping route to Syria via Jeddah Islamic Port
The EXS6 service will link Jeddah Islamic Port with Iskenderun Port in Turkey and Latakia Port in Syria, facilitating trade flows with a capacity of 858 standard containers. This initiative is expected to boost import and export activities.
The new service is part of Mawani's ongoing efforts to strengthen the Kingdom's position within global shipping networks and enhance port efficiency.
It aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to establish Saudi Arabia as a central logistics hub connecting three continents.

Saudi's Mawani starts work on $184mln logistics corridor in Jeddah
Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has commenced work on the 689 million Saudi riyals ($183.71 million) logistics corridor connecting Jeddah Islamic Port to Al-Khumrah Logistics Park, located south of Jeddah. The project aims to establish a dedicated and direct logistics corridor, Mawani said in a statement. The 17km long corridor will have two lanes in each direction. A total of 12 bridges will be constructed along the route to facilitate the movement of trucks between the port and the logistics park, eliminating the need to use the city's internal road network. Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Mawani Chairman Saleh Al-Jasser said that the direct logistics corridor will significantly enhance truck movement efficiency and increase the handling capacity of Jeddah Islamic Port by 10 percent. The project will also include emergency access points, maintenance facilities, and a complete rainwater drainage system. Jeddah Islamic Port, located on the Red Sea coast, spans 12.5 sq km and includes 62 multi-purpose berths and a number of specialised terminals. The project's completion date was not given. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority, laid the foundation stone for the logistics corridor connecting Jeddah Islamic Port to the Al-Khumrah Logistics Park. The ceremony was attended by the President of Mawani, Eng. Suliman Almazroua, along with senior officials and leaders from the transport and logistics ecosystem. The project, executed by Mawani with a value exceeding SAR 689 million, aims to establish a dedicated and direct logistics corridor linking Jeddah Islamic Port with the Al-Khumrah Logistics Park. The corridor stretches 17 kilometers and includes two lanes in each direction. A total of 12 bridges will be constructed along the route to facilitate the movement of trucks between the port and the logistics park, eliminating the need to use the city's internal road network. His Excellency Minister Al-Jasser stated that this direct logistics corridor will significantly enhance truck movement efficiency and increase the handling capacity of Jeddah Islamic Port by 10%. The project will also support the integration of transport modes, strengthen supply chains, and improve infrastructure development. He added that the dedicated corridor will ease truck flow, enhance traffic efficiency, and improve road safety in Jeddah by reducing congestion through the separation of heavy truck traffic from general traffic routes. It will also eliminate visual and noise pollution around the port area. Saudi Global Ports unit takes over Eastern Coast terminals operations
Saudi Arabia - Modern Port Services Company Limited (SGP Multipurpose Terminals), a subsidiary of Saudi Global Ports Group (together with its subsidiaries), today (July 1) officially took over as the operator of multipurpose terminals along the Eastern Coast of Saudi Arabia. The terminals are located at King Abdulaziz Port Dammam (KAPD), Jubail Commercial Port, King Fahad Industrial Port Jubail (KFIP) and Ras Al-Khair Port. This follows the recent awarding of 20-year concession agreements by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) to integrate Saudi Arabia's Multipurpose Terminals along the Eastern Coast through a single operator, said SGP in a statement. These terminals support national industries including energy, petrochemicals, construction and mining, and are key to the Kingdom's ongoing mega projects and economic development efforts, it added. Saudi Global Ports Group unit SGPMP is working closely with Mawani to develop plans to enhance safety, operational resilience and service standards. The enhancements will be modelled after SGP's successful transformation of its terminals at King Abdulaziz Port Dammam and the Riyadh Dry Port Ecosystem. Looking ahead, SGPMP will also be supported by expertise from SGP's technical partner, PSA International, which operates Multipurpose Terminals in Singapore and globally, said a top official. "This is an important milestone for the Group.
