India captain Shubman Gill came under fire on the , not just for perishing early with the bat for the third consecutive time but also for failing to back senior teammate Karun Nair.
Nair, after all, was benched in the fourth Test at Manchester after featuring in the first three Tests of the five-match series, with the team management opting to bring B Sai Sudharsan back into the XI.

And former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif was among those who felt Nair should have been back for at least one more game before getting relegated to the bench at Old Trafford, where India find themselves in a must-win situation in their quest for a first series win on English soil in 18 years.

Both Sudharsan and Nair had played the series opener at Headingley, at No 3 and No 6 respectively. The visitors, however, opted to bring in an extra all-rounder in Washington Sundar in the lower middle-order in the second Test at Edgbaston, forcing them to choose Nair over Sudharsan and moving him to No 3 in the process.

Nair, however, had collected just 131 runs in three Tests at an average of 21.83 with a top-score of 40 – going past the 30-mark just twice in the series.
The Vidarbha batter, who was rewarded for a red-hot run in domestic cricket, was retained in the XI for the third Test at Lord's despite failing to convert promising starts in the series. Skipper Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir, however, ran out of patience after Nair collected just 54 runs across two innings at the 'Home of Cricket'.
Also returning to the Indian XI for the first time since the series opener in Leeds was all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who replaced the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy. Additionally, Anshul Kamboj made his international debut in Manchester on Wednesday after replacing Akash Deep, who has also been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series due to injury.
Akash, who had starred in the victory in Birmingham, has a groin issue while Reddy has been ruled out due to a knee injury.

The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) has asked its players to sign a declaration form, re-affirming their allegiance to the body and declaring they would not compete in any rival tournament. I shall not participate in any professional golf event that conflicts with official PGTI-sanctioned tournaments without prior written approval … as per Clause 1.10 of the PGTI Handbook," reads a part of the form sent out to the players. Amandeep Johl, Chief Executive Officer of the PGTI, sought to play down the development. "There is nothing new in the form. It is part of the PGTI Handbook. This is Appendix 2, which is a standard registration form, which has been there forever," Johl told The Times of India. "I have no problem with my player playing anywhere, in India or abroad, private or public, but you can't have your foot in both the boards. That's not fair to the rest of the membership," he said. Its management includes some of the founding members of PGTI. Asked why PGTI couldn't co-sanction the league like the women's tour has done, Johl said the discussions failed at a nascent stage. 17-yr-old Unnati from Rohtak stuns double Olympic medallist Sindhu at China Open
Rohtak: In a major upset at the BWF Super 1000 China Open 2025, Unnati Hooda, 17, knocked out double Olympic medallist in the pre-quarterfinals. Hooda prevailed 21-19, 19-21, 21-13, ending Sindhu's campaign and sealing a quarter-final berth where she will face Japan's Akane Yamaguchi. His daughter did not miss even a single day, but they finished their training before the break of the day in the dark at the stadium and later played matches indoors without catching the attention of authorities. "We maintained social distance and all necessary precautions but did not miss any single day. Unnati kept growing, and today is a big day for the family as she beat her idol PV Sindhu in the China Open series."
