The weather department attributed the current wet spell to an interaction of multiple weather systems. "The ongoing rain is due to a western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation that is currently active over south Punjab and adjoining parts of north Rajasthan and west Haryana. This combination is expected to cause rainfall over the region for the next three to four days," an IMD official said.
IMD further forecast light to moderate rainfall at several places in the state till May 6. "These showers could be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 50-60 kmph," the
IMD forecast
stated. The department also said that no major change in maximum temperatures is expected over the next three days, after which a gradual rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius is likely.
Meanwhile, the forecast for Sunday suggests partly cloudy skies with a possibility of one or two spells of thundershowers. The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 22 degrees Celsius and 37 degrees Celsius, respectively.
