India is a country where studying engineering has long been the most predictable and certain route to a successful career. Not only did it ensure a bright future in terms of job prospects, but it was also one of the most stable and secure sectors to work in. However, in the recent past, job prospects for engineering graduates have begun to change dramatically. While the job market is flooded with fresh graduates, with nearly 15 lakh engineering students entering the workforce each year, according to a 2024 TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship report—the landscape of jobs has shifted significantly, both in nature and in demand.
Students from premier institutes are also facing uncertainties. According to the TeamLease report, only 60 per cent of IIT graduates secured placements.

He addressed the mega CA student conference 'Sphoorthi,' organised by the ICAI Guntur Chapter at Bandlamudi Gardens in Guntur on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, he mentioned that as part of the Viksit Bharat vision, Prime Minister Modi has set a goal for India to achieve a $30 trillion economy by 2047, with Andhra Pradesh contributing $2.4 trillion to this target. Although he is not a Chartered Accountant himself, Lokesh, a Stanford MBA graduate, expressed his understanding of the importance of this profession. He stated, 'Whenever there's a lack of clarity in business, we turn to our CAs. In governance, no government document requiring budgetary approval can proceed without an auditor's stamp. We trust Chartered Accountants to uphold faith in the system. Every rupee earned and every job created has a CA behind it. Our government values the input of CAs and includes them in policymaking. You don't just certify balance sheets.'

IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh on Saturday called upon the chartered accountants (CA) to be fully acquainted and updated with their subject and gear up to handle advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI). He also appreciated the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for being the first in the world to implement forensic accounting standards. Addressing a mega student meet of the ICAI titled 'Spoorthi'in Guntur, Mr. Lokesh said that despite completing 76 years, the institute remained an accounting powerhouse and has been a major strength of the Indian financial system. He observed that the importance of CA could be understood from the fact that every budget-approved file required an auditor's seal, and added they were drivers of the country's economic growth. The State government has always valued the inputs given by the ICAI on various matters of financial administration and would keep consulting it for policymaking, he added. Mr. Lokesh insisted that the CA play a significant role in achieving the Prime Minister's vision of Viksit Bharat, which aims to make India a $30 trillion economy by 2047. He stated that in today's world, not only IQ but technology quotient (TQ) was also essential to stay ahead. 'Let us all work together to steer India and Andhra Pradesh towards progress. The future belongs to you, and the government will stand by you,' Mr. Lokesh said. Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi, ICAI vice-president D. Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said that state govt is constantly upgrading the infrastructure in govt schools in Goa and that govt institutes now have better facilities or are on par with those in other privately managed schools. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'Now, there is no shortage of teachers, even if some are appointed on a contract basis. Now there are 20 to 22 teachers teaching in a govt high school. Earlier, parents thought that a govt high school meant the facilities were lacking. Now this has changed, and govt high schools are in the number one position in the state,' said Sawant. The CM said that facilities like smart classrooms and labs are also being provided in govt schools in Goa. 'Giving good infrastructure to govt high schools is govt's duty, and we are providing it, whether it is a building, smart classroom, or lab. From time to time, we are giving such infrastructure one by one to all govt schools,' he said after inaugurating a STEM Lab at Govt Higher Secondary School, Sanquelim, along with water resources minister Subhash Shirodkar. The lab was provided under ONGC's CSR initiative. Sawant said that even children in the govt primary schools in Sanquelim and Shiroda constituencies are provided exposure to STEM education. 'This hands-on learning hub in science, robotics, and tech supports NEP 2020 and Viksit Bharat @2047. This is a step toward nurturing innovation and digital skills, which is one of six such labs across Goa. Children need exposure to STEM labs. In fact, if they are exposed to innovation and tech-related subjects now, they will develop an interest in entering innovation-related sectors in the future. Even primary students of Class IV are learning how the heart functions, how wind energy and solar energy operate. If you see this, then Goa's and India's future is bright,' said Sawant.
