Halara launches in UK, plans pop-ups this year

Singapore-based apparel brand, Halara, is expanding into the UK market 'after rapidly gaining traction in the global athleisure space'.
It recently opened in Britain online and now has plans to introduce a UK pop-up experience later in 2025, bringing its digital-first, community-driven model into physical retail space, to work alongside its app and online platform.
It's a model it has used in other markets and pop-ups continue to be a major focus for the firm.
The brand, which was founded in 2020 by Joyce Zhang, has built a reputation for fashion-focused, affordable womenswear made from performance-driven fabrics. It offers both everyday clothing and active/leisure pieces and the ongoing popularity of athleisure in the UK means it could be a lucrative market for the business.
Halara's rapid rise has been fuelled by its strong presence on TikTok, where it has 'built a community through high-volume creator partnerships and relatable, story-led content'. And it uses feedback from that community to drive product development.
Jessica Thompson, global brand president at the business, said that 'since its launch, Halara has experienced strong, consistent growth, doubling revenue year on year. This momentum is driven by innovation, not just in our product range, but in how we operate.
'We were early to platforms like TikTok, embraced AI-powered tools, and adopted flexible production models that keep us ahead of trends and allow us to move quickly in response to consumer demand.
'TikTok has been a powerful engine for engagement and brand storytelling, sparking conversations through ads, creators, and organic word of mouth from our real customers. This traction has helped build a vibrant community and fuelled sales growth.
'We're also excited to bring our product to life through offline activations, giving UK customers the chance to touch, try, and experience Halara in person through impactful brand moments.'

The Parently Group named UK licensee for Italian Lelli Kelly's move into apparel

Italian children's footwear brand Lelli Kelly has named Manchester-based The Parently Group as its UK clothing licensee. And the British family-owned fashion and schoolwear specialist has launched the new collection for UK buyers looking for SS26 and back-to-school 26 ranges. The girls' brand is known for its shoes and by partnering with the UK business on apparel is opening itself up to what's a major new category for it. The parters said the new Lelli Kelly Apparel Collection brings 'the brand's iconic sparkle and unique aesthetic from footwear to clothing'. Parently is offering 'a vibrant range of girls' apparel' targeting both SS26 and BTS26. A lot of potential consumers will already recognise the brand that's known internationally for its embellished shoes and 'fun-loving identity' and with that profile having been extended into the full fashion range it clearly has a lot of potential, helped by Parently's strength in the category. The inaugural collection features statement prints, 'and whimsical designs, perfectly suited for girls who love to express themselves,' we're told. As mentioned, schoolwear is also included in the mix, 'with creative design inspiration that draws on the popularity of the Lelli Kelly school shoes'. Lelli Kelly's president and founder Attilio Attilieni said that every aspect of the brand 'from product to communication, is created from girls' point of view and dedicated to them. Our shoes give life to joy, creativity and inspiration and we are happy to bring that same spirit to apparel through this new partnership'. And Parently CEO Kathryn Shuttleworth added that the apparel expansion 'feels like a natural evolution' of the label.

Spain's Santander buys TSB Bank to boost presence in the UK

Spanish Banco Santander S.A., the biggest lender in continental Europe by market capitalisation, is buying Scotland-based commercial bank TSB for £2.65 billion (€3.08bn). This is a major step to bolster the Spanish lender's future in the UK, as it has been struggling to keep its UK arm afloat. The acquisition of TSB Bank means 5 million customers will be transferred to Santander, who will keep a total of £35bn (€40.1bn) in their deposits. The combined entity will become the third-largest bank in the UK by share of personal current accounts and the fourth-largest by mortgages. However, TSB Bank's name and branding could disappear, as the Spanish lender intends to integrate TSB into the Santander UK group. Santander's chief executive Mike Regnier said to BBC, "We haven't made any decisions yet", but "we tend to use the Santander brand on the high street around the world". The Spanish bank is hoping to turn its fortunes around after it announced in March that it would cut hundreds of jobs and close a fifth of its branch network in the UK. TSB Bank has been a subsidiary of the Spanish Sabadell Group since 2015, which has now decided to sell the Edinburgh-based lender after it received unsolicited interest from another Spanish financial giant Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA). Sabadell's efforts to repel BBVA's interest Selling TSB Bank could weaken Sabadell's appeal as a merger target. The Spanish bank is expected to boost its returns to its shareholders, using the money it receives from Santander in the deal. It is part of a strategy where Sabadell seeks to retain shareholder interest as it attempts to repel the renewed takeover attempts from BBVA. Sabadell keeps a tab on its website for investors dedicated to the takeover bid, indicating how much shareholders would lose if they agreed to the merger. BBVA said on Monday that the bank 'is moving forward with the acquisition of Banco Sabadell,' despite Sabadell's opposition. Santander's deal is expected to generate a return on invested capital of over 20%. The common cost base of the two banks is expected to decline by 13%, equating to around £400mn (€466mn) in cost savings, according to the bank. A Santander spokeswoman did not rule out branch closures, and said to the BBC that there would be job cuts in the back offices without naming the number of jobs in danger. TSB announced in May that it would lay off 250 employees and close 36 branches. The bank has around 5,000 staff and 175 branches. Santander's deal, first, needs to gain the necessary regulatory approvals and a green light from Sabadell shareholders. After the announcement, the bank's shares were up by nearly 3% at midday in Europe.
