HONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach Newswire – 30 July 2025 - Pacific Century Premium Developments Limited ('PCPD', SEHK: 00432) announced its interim results for the six months ended June 30, 2025.
The consolidated revenue of PCPD and its subsidiaries (together, the 'Group') amounted to HK$ 736 million, compared to HK$ 545 million for the corresponding period of 2024.
The Group's consolidated loss attributable to equity holders of the Company for the first six months of 2025 totalled HK$249 million, compared to a net loss of HK$153 million for the corresponding period last year. Basic loss per share for the six months ended June 30, 2025 was 12.23 Hong Kong cents, compared to a loss per share of 7.52 Hong Kong cents for the corresponding period of 2024.
The Board of Directors did not declare an interim dividend for the first half of 2025.
Throughout the first half of 2025, the Group continued to build on its growth momentum and delivered a solid set of results. Our operations in Japan were particularly strong, supported in part by robust tourism growth and a relatively weak Japanese Yen. Park Hyatt Niseko, Hanazono, our hospitality business in Niseko, Hokkaido, reported a significant uplift in revenue. During the period, our ski operations remained a standout performer in the region. Earnings from our recreational facilities at the resort, ski lifts, equipment rentals, 'Hanazono EDGE' (a restaurant and entertainment centre) and Niseko International Snowsports School continued to grow steadily year-on-year. We will remain focused on enhancing Niseko Hanazono Resort into a world-class, all-season luxury resort, and we are confident in its ability to deliver long-term value.
In Jakarta, our premium commercial building, PCP Jakarta, delivered a steady performance and remained a reliable revenue contributor to the Group. As of June 30, 2025, the office space committed occupancy was 85 %. The gross rental income amounted to HK$100 million for the six months ended June 30, 2025, as with the same period in 2024.
As for the development of the project at 3–6 Glenealy, Central, Hong Kong, the construction of its superstructure has been progressing well. The project is scheduled to be completed by early 2026.
Mr. Benjamin Lam, PCPD's Deputy Chairman and Group Managing Director, said: 'The year 2025 has been characterised by geopolitical uncertainties and a global economy continuing to adjust to changes. Despite some optimistic projections at the start of the year, the first half has been marked by slower-than-expected economic growth in some developed nations. Despite these headwinds, the global economy has shown encouraging resilience. Inflation in many advanced economies is moderating, and business investment is gradually picking up as confidence improves. With its diversified portfolio and strong business fundamentals, PCPD is well positioned to navigate the evolving landscape and gain its growth momentum.
Moving into the second half of the year, we aim to leverage our existing key resources, and maximise value for our stakeholders to achieve sustainable business growth.'

Philippines' Marcos strikes defence deals in India

NEW DELHI: The Philippines and India signed a raft of security deals Tuesday (Aug 5) aimed at strengthening strategic ties between the nations as they navigate tensions with China across the Asia-Pacific. President Ferdinand Marcos, on a five-day visit to India, was accorded a red carpet welcome and honour guard before he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The leaders agreed deals including bolstering ties between their respective armed forces -- the army, and air force as well as their navies -- with Indian warships currently taking part in patrols of the disputed South China Sea with their Philippine counterparts for the first time. The Philippines has heightened defence cooperation with a range of allies over the past year after a series of clashes with China in the contested waterway. "India and the Philippines are friends by choice and partners by destiny," Modi told Marcos in a speech. "From the Indian Ocean to the Pacific, we are untied by shared values." Marcos' visit follows the Philippines' acquisition of India's BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system -- the first such export by New Delhi -- with deliveries beginning in April under a $375 million deal signed in 2022. Marcos said the two sides engaged in "far-reaching, productive and forward looking" discussions. "We expressed satisfaction over the rapid pace of the Philippines' ongoing defence modernisation and the expanding capabilities... of India's indigenous defence industry as a partner in this undertaking, exemplified by our BrahMos project," he said. India is a member of the Quad group, which includes fellow democracies the United States, Japan and Australia. Beijing has repeatedly alleged that the four-way partnership, first conceived by late Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, was created as a way of containing China. Talks also included setting out the terms of reference for the negotiations on a "preferential trade agreement" between Manila and New Delhi. - AFP

Japan's Shibaura classified as core to national security amid takeover battle

FILE PHOTO: A person holds Japan's national flags in Tokyo, Japan, January 2, 2020. REUTERS/Kim Kyung-Hoon/File Photo TOKYO (Reuters) -Japan's Shibaura Electronics, a technology manufacturer at the centre of a $630 million takeover battle, has been formally classified as core to national security, a finance ministry list of such firms showed. The thermistor maker received an unsolicited takeover bid from Taiwanese components supplier Yageo in February and called on compatriot components maker Minebea Mitsumi to submit a competing bid. Shibaura was previously not among those designated as significant to the economy or security, meaning a would-be buyer was not obligated to notify the government prior to any deal. The new classification is unlikely to affect the course of the deal as Yageo protectively filed for a security review based on its own analyses that some of Shibaura's businesses may fall under the core category. Nearly a fourth of about 4,000 listed Japanese firms are classified as core in the finance ministry list, last updated on July 15. Shibaura representatives were not immediately available for comment. The bidding battle has become a test of Japan's openness to unsolicited takeovers. Stigma around such offers has eased recently yet unsolicited bids from foreign firms remain rare. Yageo, the world's largest maker of chip resistors, is awaiting the outcome of the security review under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act, which has been extended twice. The classification list is based mainly on company responses to ministry questions. It is the foreign suitor's responsibility to judge whether a potential deal requires a security review, the ministry said. Last year, Seven & i Holdings changed its self-reported national security classification to core when it was fending off a $46 billion bid from Canada's Alimentation Couche-Tard. The retailer said the change was unrelated to the approach, which was unlikely to be affected by the designation. ($1 = 147.1100 yen) (Reporting by Makiko Yamazaki; Editing by Christopher Cushing)

Mazda forecasts nearly US$1bil profit hit from US tariffs

TOKYO: Mazda Motor said on Tuesday it expects a 145.2 billion yen (US$987.02 million) hit to its operating profit this business year due to US import tariffs, as the Japanese automaker rolled out measures to cushion the impact. To soften the blow of the tariffs, the company said it is taking measures including changing shipping routes, increasing output at its plant in the US state of Alabama and adjusting production volumes. The impact of the higher US duties on results this year remained "quite significant," assuming that exports from Japan would face a 15 per cent tariff and those from Mexico 25 per cent, chief financial officer Jeffrey Guyton said. Without its countermeasures, the company would be at risk of a 233.5-billion-yen operating profit hit for the year ending March 2026, Guyton told reporters during a briefing. Mazda has been trying to boost sales of its CX-50 crossover sport utility vehicle. The company has a major plant in the Mexican state of Guanajuato from where it exports vehicles to the US. It said last week it sold about 210,000 vehicles in the United States over the first half, up 4 per cent from a year earlier. Mazda has forecast a full-year operating profit of ¥50 billion for the year ending March 2026, down sharply from the previous financial year. It had previously withheld guidance due to uncertainty surrounding the US tariffs.
