Fallston native Charlie Cerrato gave up a traditional route in football to pursue his destiny on ice—one that has now put him with the Carolina Hurricanes as the 49th overall selection in the 2025
NHL
Draft.
That decision culminated in a defining moment when the Carolina Hurricanes called his name during the second round of the NHL Draft.
Charlie Cerrato fulfilled his NHL ambitions with Carolina Hurricanes
For Charlie Cerrato, the son of longtime NFL executive Vinny Cerrato, it meant trading football cleats for skates. 'It was a funny coincidence because the 49ers are all over our house, like all of his stuff,' Charlie Cerrato said. 'I mean, 49 is a number we use a lot. So it was definitely funny seeing that.'
Charlie Cerrato's hockey journey began early—at age three, arriving on the ice in Northern Virginia after pancakes with Dad. Once Vinny's NFL days were over and the family had moved to Fallston, Maryland, hockey was still the focus. Long daily drives to top club teams in Pennsylvania and New Jersey became the routine, a sacrifice Charlie welcomed. Later, Cerrato moved from Fallston High after his first year, living with a host family in Michigan, to continue working on his game.

2025 NHL Draft : Charlie Cerrato - 24-25 Highlights
Cerrato had initially committed to Michigan, but staff changes resulted in him opting for Penn State, where he immediately made an impact. He recorded 42 points during his freshman season, was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and assisted in leading the Nittany Lions to the Frozen Four.
His faceoff success rate exceeded 57%, and his play piqued the interest of almost every NHL club.
Even after sitting down with 27 NHL teams, Cerrato interviewed with the Hurricanes only once, making their selection all the more shocking.

One hour of Ben Stokes in Manchester: One shoulder, one spell, one statement

England captain Ben Stokes (AP) in Manchester: 8-2-11-1. Forty-eight eventful deliveries, one big wicket of KL Rahul, and almost the dismissal of Shubman Gill, Enland captain Ben Stokes on Sunday put on a spectacle, not just another show, at Old Trafford on an overcast Day 5 morning of the Manchester Test. He constantly rubbed his shoulder, clutched his hamstring, felt stiffness in the bicep of his bowling arm, and grimaced in pain every over, yet kept charging in during what turned out to be a gripping passage of play. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Operating from the Sir James Anderson End, Stokes—who brought himself on in the second over of the day—immediately identified the variable zone and relentlessly targeted it from wide of the crease. The angle and the tricks offered by the pitch made life difficult for the overnight pair of Rahul and Gill. Some deliveries kept alarmingly low, while others reared awkwardly off a good length. The right-handers struggled to deal with the angle and two-paced bounce, which ultimately led to Rahul's dismissal. The ball jagged back sharply after pitching, and the low bounce trapped Rahul plumb in front. Stokes was elated, forgetting all his niggles in that moment. He leapt in celebration but held back slightly, letting out a restrained fist pump. With spring in his stride, the England captain wasn't ready to ease off. He could sense another wicket coming with the pressure he was building. India looked tentative—Gill had already survived a close chance and taken a painful blow to his right thumb. After Rahul's exit, Gill was the big fish, and Stokes was determined to remove him. So much so that he bowled an eight-over spell before handing over to the pacers armed with the second new ball. Before Day 5, there had been many questions surrounding whether Stokes would bowl at all. But he seemed locked in, ready to give it everything. That spirited spell not only broke a stubborn partnership but also kept Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes, and Brydon Carse fresh for a later burst with the new ball. Considering his already immense workload in the series—including a five-wicket haul and a century at Lord's, followed by two days of bed rest—Stokes had to dig deep into his reserves for that effort. Across five days, he barely left the field, constantly challenging the opposition with bat and ball. His intensity never dropped. At a time when player workload is a trending concern, Stokes has seemingly erased the word from his vocabulary. In this ongoing battle of I vs Me vs India, Ben Stokes remains the real winner. Andy Reid reacts with bold Chiefs move as Travis Kelce faces harsh doubts from NFL analyst

Andy Reid reacts with bold Chiefs move as Travis Kelce faces harsh doubts from NFL analyst (Image Via X) Travis Kelce was once the most feared tight end in the NFL. For years, he dominated as the Kansas City Chiefs' top pass-catching weapon. But in 2025, cracks may have appeared. At training camp, something changed and a veteran NFL analyst questioned whether defenses still fear him the way they used to. Meanwhile, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid made a surprising call at camp that added to the drama. Could this be Kelce's turning point? Peter Schrager questions Travis Kelce's role in 2025 In late July 2025, during an episode of ESPN's First Take, NFL analyst Peter Schrager stated : 'There was a point in time where Travis Kelce was considered a top‑10 feared weapon in the league, but I don't think he's considered that way anymore'. This comment came as the Kansas City Chiefs began training camp on July 21 at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. Schrager was not saying Kelce suddenly lost his talent. Instead, he pointed to a shift in perception. Defenders may no longer see him as that unstoppable threat. Schrager added that while Kelce still performs, the aura that once forced defenses to double‑cover him appears to be fading. Former NFL receiver Harry Douglas disagreed on the same show, firing back: 'Play dumb games and win dumb prizes. Leave him 1‑on‑1 if you want. ' Douglas argued Kelce's experience still makes him dangerous in big moments. The debate signals a real question among NFL insiders: is Kelce still elite, or just experienced? Also Read: Travis Kelce sparks NFL threat over Taylor Swift-inspired celebration now flagged as weapon gesture Andy Reid's unusual training camp decision raises eyebrows Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who had players report together with rookies and veterans on July 21, canceled the usual early outdoor practice session for camp. This was described as a last‑minute decision, meant to change the team's mindset rather than focus on mechanics, sending a message to veterans and rookies alike. When asked about Kelce's condition at camp, Reid said Kelce looked in 'great shape,' noting he had lost weight and seemed more focused than ever at age 35. Reid praised Kelce as 'phenomenal' but did not discuss retirement plans, saying he and Kelce have not spoken about it directly. This tension between Schrager's doubts and Reid's praise unfolded as the Chiefs try to recover from their Super Bowl 59 loss in early 2025 and prepare for their season opener, scheduled for September 5, 2025, in Brazil against the Los Angeles Chargers. FAQs 1. Why is Travis Kelce facing criticism from NFL analysts in 2025? NFL experts say Travis Kelce may not scare defenses like he used to, raising doubts about his role this season. 2. What bold move did Andy Reid make during Chiefs training camp? Andy Reid canceled a major outdoor session early in camp to reset the team's focus and energy. 3. Is Travis Kelce still the top target for Patrick Mahomes in 2025? Despite the doubts, Travis Kelce remains Mahomes' most trusted target as the Chiefs rebuild their offense.
