Today's NYT Mini Crossword Clues And Answers For Monday, July 7th
In case you missed Sunday's NYT Mini Crossword puzzle, you can find the answers here:
And we're back . . . to another Monday. Another work week. Another sunny summer day. We're also careening past the halfway point for 2025, which is pretty crazy. It'll be Christmas before you know it. We also have a NYT Mini Crossword to solve. I have some hints and the answers to today's Mini below.
The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it's free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you'll need the app to tackle the archive.
Spoilers ahead!

Today's Mini
This one ended up going quite well. 1-Across wasn't obvious without the 'also an island' bit but that made JAVA pretty clear and then JAM for 2-Down came naturally enough. I couldn't remember AXEL but I knew it was something like that and initially plugged in AXIS, which worked for 2-Down but not 3-Down (VEXED) but a quick adjustment and I was back up and running. This one took me 58 seconds.
How did you do? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
If you also play Wordle, I write guides about that as well. You can find those and all my TV guides, reviews and much more here on my blog. Thanks for reading!

Did PUBG owner Krafton just delay Subnautica 2 and fire execs so it wouldn't have to pay $250 million to devs?
Posted Jul 9, 2025 at 8:19 PM UTC Did PUBG owner Krafton just delay Subnautica 2 and fire execs so it wouldn't have to pay $250 million to devs? That is the unanswered question in Jason Schreier's latest for Bloomberg , which reveals the existence of a $250 million bonus if the game met sales targets this year — and that the ousted bosses of developer Unknown Worlds were planning to share it with staff. New studio head Steve Papoutsis told employees he was unaware of the bonus, and that Krafton had simply decided the game wasn't ready to ship.

What's in Our Queue? ‘Schitt's Creek' and More
I cover higher education for The New York Times. My beat has been busy lately, so I'm usually looking for entertainment that's a little less pressurized. Here are five things that have had me thinking, laughing and cooking → My wife and I are chronically behind on TV, and we are just now getting around to 'Schitt's Creek' a decade after it first aired. Despite — or maybe because of — our tardiness, the show is a hilarious escape that offers the added benefit of letting you understand some social media memes you've never quite grasped. Georgia's grilling weather will be sporadically miserable until, say, October. But this mesmerizing cookbook makes all of the heat worthwhile, especially if you're sipping an orange, pineapple and lime agua fresca. Don't sleep on the citrus and oregano pollo asado and absolutely do not forget the avocado oil flour tortillas. I like to pick up local histories when I travel, so my friends weren't surprised when I came home from London with a book about British leaders from Harold Wilson to Boris Johnson. Even though the U.K. is on its third post-Johnson premier, it's a lively volume that shows us much about how Britain got to its present. Speaking of social media, Southerners will probably bless your heart if Matt Mitchell can't make you laugh about something. Come for the barbecue jokes. Stick around into the fall for the college football trash talk. (OK, that's a year-round thing here.) One of my favorite storytelling genres is 'how things work.' Even though I have no musical ability, much less talent, I thought 'Score' was a wondrous peek into the brilliance that goes into sorting out what a movie should sound like. Plus, you get to listen to snippets of great soundtracks.

Oh, and Mark Hamill is also showing up as Luke Skywalker.
