The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently took to Facebook to gently but firmly ask travellers to stop hiding animals 'in weird places' on their bodies. The woman, flying out of Florida, apparently thought her brassiere made an ideal travel terrarium - but the TSA wasn't shelling out any leniency. Authorities reminded pet owners that animals are welcome aboard - just not beneath your clothing - and not in intimate compartments. While small pets are allowed through security if carried properly, one of the turtles sadly did not survive the ill-fated journey. The surviving turtle was handed over to Florida's Department of Fish and Wildlife, who are now its new caretakers. Flight restrictions lifted at Russia's Samara airport

Ferry service for Bum Bum island in final stages

SEMPORNA: Residents of Bum-Bum island will soon enjoy safer and more comfortable transportation as a dedicated ferry service is expected to begin operations in the near future. Sulabayan Community Development Leader (PPM), Datuk Abd Hajan Gurimbang, said preparations for the service are currently in the final stages before the official launch. The initiative is seen as a move to improve transport access between the island and the mainland. 'The State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is introducing this service as a temporary solution while awaiting the implementation of the Bum-Bum Island bridge construction project,' he said after visiting the project site. The site visit also involved several agencies including the Sabah Ports and Harbour Department, Public Works Department (JKR) Sabah, Department of Lands and Surveys, and the Semporna District Office. According to Abd Hajan, for years, the absence of a fixed route has forced residents to rely on small boats for daily travel—including transporting necessities and even vehicles. This situation has not only posed a financial burden but also raised safety concerns, especially during unpredictable weather conditions. For the record, the proposed bridge—measuring 1.4 kilometres and estimated to cost RM430 million—was first submitted in 2012. Singapore Tourism assess Sabah cruise potential

The delegation from the Singapore Tourism Board (SGTB) and Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS) met with Suria Capital Holdings Berhad to discuss integrating Sabah into regional cruise itineraries currently dominated by established Southeast Asian ports. Discussions centred on infrastructure development needed to accommodate large cruise vessels, with Suria Capital proposing a dedicated International Cruise Terminal as part of its Jesselton Docklands waterfront redevelopment project. 'Kota Kinabalu is uniquely positioned with its rich cultural heritage, pristine natural landscapes and growing tourism infrastructure,' said Suria Capital Group Managing Director Datuk Ng Kiat Min. 'We see great potential in establishing new cruise itineraries connecting Singapore and East Malaysia. 'These collaborations offer not only regional economic benefits but also opportunities for cruise passengers to enjoy authentic and memorable shore excursions that highlight the best of Borneo,' she said. The proposed terminal would be designed to handle growing passenger volumes and meet international cruise facility standards, addressing current limitations that prevent larger vessels from docking at Kota Kinabalu Port. Singapore officials shared regional cruise industry trends and operational insights during the visit, while Sabah Tourism Board representatives presented the State's tourism attractions and outlined plans under the Visit Sabah 2026 campaign. The initiative aims to place Sabah as a premier cruise destination in the region, potentially establishing regular routes that would bring thousands of international tourists to explore the State's wildlife, cultural sites and natural attractions. The visiting delegation included representatives from SATS-Creuers Cruise Services, the terminal operator for MBCCS, one of Asia's leading cruise terminals and a key gateway for international cruise passengers arriving in Singapore, comprising Chief Executive Officer Gregory Tan, Head of Business Development and Marketing Jann How, Special Projects Head Jacqueline Ng and Operations Manager Muhd Rusyaidi.
