RIO DE JANEIRO: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to meet his counterparts from India and Ethiopia here.
The meetings will take place on the sidelines of the BRICS Leaders' Summit later today, Malaysian time.
Anwar, who arrived here on Saturday, will meet Indian premier Narendra Modi at the Museum of Modern Art, after delivering his National Statement at the summit.
Both leaders met during the 21st Asean-India Summit in Laos last year.
Anwar will then meet his Ethiopian counterpart, Abiy Ahmed Ali.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz at the meetings.
It will be a busy day for Anwar as he starts his second day in Brazil's second biggest city with a meeting with aerospace firm Embraer's president and CEO Francisco Gomes Neto.
Headquartered in Brazil, Embraer is a leading aircraft manufacturer.
It participated in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (Lima 2025) in May.
According to a Bernama report, Anwar is also scheduled to receive a courtesy call from New Development Bank president Dilma Rousseff.
Malaysia's participation in the summit is in its capacity as a BRICS Partner Country and as Chair of Asean 2025.
Malaysia officially became a BRICS Partner Country on Jan 1.

ISTANBUL: US President Donald Trump warned late Sunday (July 6) that any country that aligns itself "with the anti-American policies" of the BRICS economic bloc will face an additional 10% tariff, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. "There will be no exceptions to this policy," he wrote on his Truth Social platform. In late January, Trump said "there is no chance that BRICS (countries) will replace the US dollar in international trade, or anywhere else." "We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty US Dollar or, they will face 100% tariffs," he added. BRICS members have discussed shifting from the dollar in recent years, with discussions intensifying after the US imposed sanctions on Russia in 2022 following the start of its "special military operation' in Ukraine. Trump's statements Sunday came as leaders and representatives from BRICS are gathering in Rio de Janeiro for the group's 17th annual summit. - Bernama-Anadolu

Brazilian President Says World Can't Remain Indifferent To Gaza Genocide

ISTANBUL, July 7 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Sunday called for action against Israel, saying the world cannot remain indifferent to the Gaza genocide, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. Speaking at the plenary session of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the president said: "We cannot remain indifferent to the genocide carried out by Israel in Gaza, the indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians and the use of hunger as a weapon of war." His comments come as Gaza truce talks between Israel and Hamas resumed in Qatar, with Hamas saying late Friday that it had submitted a 'positive' response to mediators regarding a recent Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange proposal.
