SISTAR's Hyolyn draws criticism; comments on contestants' visuals from ‘Boys Planet 2' go viral

SISTAR's Hyolyn has recently joined the ongoing survival variety show 'Boys Planet 2' as a mentor to the contestants on the show. A recent comment from the 'Touch My Body' singer has gone viral online, after she asked whether the visual aspect of the competitors will go into account for evaluation or not. Hyolyn's remark goes viral During one of the recently aired episodes of the show, while all of the members, along with Hyolyn, were evaluating the performances of the contestants, the singer asked a question that ended up going viral online. While evaluating, the singer asked her fellow mentor, JUSTHIS, if visuals of the person get evaluated as well. She asked, 'Do good looks also get included in the scores?' While JUSTHIS replied that he has been taking that into account, Hyolyn admitted that she had not been adding that factor in any of her evaluations so far. Questioning her, JUSTHIS shared that it was an integral part of everything as they're idols. He shared, 'Doesn't that count as charm? Since they're idols…' Netizens react As soon as the video was shared online, it ended up sparking major debates about how an idol's skills are evaluated on such shows. Many commented that visuals are often given more priority over everything else, and that acts as a deterrent for the entire group. One netizen commented, 'You people giving Hyolyn shit for caring more about vocals than visuals is why the current state of K-pop is just companies giving us slop after slop and forcing us to eat this shit when fans clearly want substance, but here we are', while another commented, 'putting hyolyn on as a vocal coach but not wanting her to judge based off vocals is CRAZY to me'.

Why is Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy being called ‘cheap commercial'? Leaked Lee Min Ho–Ahn Hyo Seop scene has fans cringing

Just days before its much-anticipated theatrical debut, Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy has found itself at the center of controversy. A short scene allegedly from the fantasy action movie surfaced on X (formerly Twitter). It quickly racked up millions of views, but for all the wrong reasons. The clip in question features lead actors Lee Min Ho and Ahn Hyo Seop locked in an intense confrontation. Lee Min Ho, portraying the powerful Yoo Joong Hyuk, attempts to uncover the hidden identity of Kim Dok Ja, played by Ahn Hyo Seop. Despite Dok Ja's attempts to hide his truth, Joong Hyuk's supernatural abilities keep exposing him. The scene is designed to be dramatic and emotionally tense, but many viewers say it misses the mark. Omniscient Reader scene criticized for poor CGI and bland cinematography Instead of praise, the scene has drawn widespread criticism for its weak visual effects and uninspired cinematography. Online commenters described the overall scene and execution as "cringe". They even compared it to a "cheap commercial" rather than a cinematic experience. Fans were particularly disappointed with the computer-generated effects, which many said looked unpolished despite the film's big production budget. Several viewers also questioned the choice of camera work and shot composition. They argued that it lacked creativity and failed to elevate the emotional weight of the scene. Fans criticize Ahn Hyo Seop's portrayal of Kim Dok Ja The backlash didn't stop at visuals. Fans of the original Omniscient Reader web novel and webtoon expressed their dissatisfaction with the portrayal of Kim Dok Ja. In the source material, Dok Ja is known for his cool-headed, cunning charm. However, the movie version, as shown in the leaked clip, appears overly fearful and unsure. Others agreed, pointing out that the screenplay seems to strip the character of his defining traits. What Omniscient Reader is about Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy is adapted from the best-selling Korean web novel. It follows the story of Kim Dok Ja, an ordinary office worker. He suddenly finds himself living inside the pages of a fantasy novel he was reading. With knowledge of the story's events and its central hero, Yoo Joong Hyuk, Dok Ja must navigate a collapsing world and attempt to change its destined ending. Lee Min Ho plays the novel's original protagonist, Yoo Joong Hyuk. He's a stoic and powerful warrior, while Ahn Hyo Seop brings Kim Dok Ja to life on the big screen. Moreover, the movie is set to premiere in theaters on July 23. Whether the full film can turn opinions around or whether this scene is a preview of larger issues remains to be seen.

Mohit Suri Accused Of Copying Korean Films (Again) As Internet Calls Saiyaara A "Rip-Off" Of A Moment To Remember

New Delhi: Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, released in theatres on Friday (July 18) and opened to an impressive Rs 21 crore at the box office. What's Happening The Mohit Suri directorial has received praise for its music and performances, but has also caught the attention of Internet users for a different reason. Many believe Saiyaara closely resembles the 2004 Korean film A Moment To Remember. The romantic drama follows the love story of Krish Kapur (played by Ahaan Panday), a short-tempered musician, and Vaani (played by Aneet Padda), a shy aspiring journalist. The story takes an emotional turn when Vaani is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's, which puts their relationship to the test. The Internet's Verdict Social media users were quick to draw parallels between Saiyaara and A Moment To Remember, which was directed by John H. Lee and starred Son Ye-jin and Jung Woo-sung. That film also revolves around a couple whose lives are changed when the woman is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's. Despite her decision to leave, the man stays by her side and helps her relive their memories together. A user wrote, "Major plot points are literally the same, like Alzheimer's, confusion with ex, girl running away. Also, the ending where he recreates the past moment is the same..." Another wrote, "So Saiyaara is based on A Moment to Remember? Mohit Suri and his love for copying South Korean movies. Ek Villain as an adaptation of I Saw The Devil was far apart, as one was an action, revenge drama with no side plot and the other was a romantic drama." While some accused the makers of lifting the plot, others defended the film. "Always remember every top artist copies from one another but you have to give your own flavour while doing and not every filmmaker can do justice or copy another work if they don't have the talent to do so," said one user. Another added, "It's a well-made adaptation even if it is. But I don't think so, this Alzheimer's/disease-ridden love story is a common trope among many love stories and it works since it provides a direct emotional connect." As of now, the makers of Saiyaara have not released any statement on whether the film is an official remake of the Korean drama. Saiyaara is written by Sankalp Sadanah, with dialogues by Rohan Shankar. The music is composed by Mithoon, Sachet-Parampara, Rishabh Kant, Vishal Mishra, Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, and Arslan Nizami. The film is produced by Yash Raj Films' CEO Akshaye Widhani.
