Man held for trying to murder actress wife in Bengaluru
The victim, identified as Manjula alias Shruthi, is undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital and is said to be out of danger. She is the mother of two daughters.
They were in courtship before getting married about 20 years ago and were staying at Muneshwara Block in Srinagar.
As she would come home late in the night and sometimes under the influence of alcohol, the accused would fight with her. The accused was even more frustrated as she would not come home for a few days and was not taking care of the family, mainly the daughters. Their fights had also caught the attention of the police. One day before the incident, the police had advised them to sort out the differences and to live without fighting. The victim would also go and stay at her brother's house after arguments with her husband.
The accused would request her to return for the sake of their daughters. Even the family elders had tried to resolve the issues between them.
'On July 4th after the children went to college, Amaresh fought with the victim and repeatedly stabbed her after using pepper spray on her face. The neighbours, after hearing her cry, rescued her and took her to a nearby hospital in an autorickshaw. As it was a medico legal case, the police who were informed rushed to the victim's house and arrested her husband,' said an officer.
The victim has acted in a few Kannada serials and earlier worked in a vernacular news channel.

He replied to me in Hindi and started scolding me for speaking in Kannada. I spoke to him in Hindi and politely asked him to stop abusing me. But he continued to make abusive remarks about Kannadigas and Karnataka. He said, 'If 70 per cent of Hindi people leave Karnataka, you will not have Rs 10 to buy tomatoes'. He further asked me to record his call and take his tower location." Following this, Ranjith shared the conversation with Kannada activists and later, lodged a complaint with the police. A senior officer said an FIR has been registered under BNS sections 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., Tired of too many ads? go ad free now and doing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace). Sarkar was arrested. During interrogation, it was found that Sarkar could speak Kannada fluently. Gold smuggling case: Actor Tarun Konduru's mother moves Karnataka HC against his detention under Cofeposa law
The mother of Telugu film actor Tarun Konduru, who was arrested in connection with the probe into the Bengaluru gold smuggling racket, has approached the Karnataka High Court seeking to declare as illegal his detention for a year under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (Cofeposa). The plea is likely to be heard this week. Rama Rao, the mother of Tarun Konduru alias Virat Konduru, 36, moved the court with a habeas corpus petition last week after a judicial advisory board – which reviews detentions under the Cofeposa law – upheld an April 22 detention order of the Central Economic Intelligence Bureau under the Union Ministry of Finance. Rama has sought an order from the high court declaring the April 22 detention order 'illegal and void.' In May, a special court for economic offences had granted statutory bail to the actor and sureties were posted by the family for his release, but the Cofeposa detention has prevented it. Tarun has been lodged in a Bengaluru prison since March. Tarun, who is the son of a prominent Bengaluru businessman, was arrested on March 9 by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) after he was found to be linked to Kannada actress Ranya Rao alias Harshavardini Ranya, 33. The actress was arrested from Bengaluru airport on March 4 while smuggling 14.2 kg of gold worth Rs 12.56 crore from Dubai. Ranya, Konduru and a hawala agent Sahil Jain are alleged to have been part of a large racket which smuggled nearly 100 kg of gold into India within a span of 18 months. All three were detained under the Cofeposa law in April. Ranya's mother had approached the high court on May 12 with a habeas corpus petition for her release from Cofeposa detention. The plea is likely to be heard this week.

Bengal man held for derogatory remarks against Kannadigas
BENGALURU: The Bommanahalli police on Thursday arrested a man from West Bengal for allegedly using derogatory remarks against Karnataka and Kannadigas. The accused, Mithun Sarkar, a massage therapist, is a resident of Begur Road. According to the police, on Thursday, one delivery executive, Ranjith Mathew, was on his way to deliver an order to Sarkar. When they were conversing on the call, the executive called an argument broke out, as Sarkar insisted that Mathew speak in Hindi. He allegedly said, 'We Hindi-speaking people make up 70% of the population in Karnataka. You people have gone overboard. If we leave, Kannadigas won't even survive,' said the complaint. Based on Mathew's complaint, a case was registered against Sarkar for intentional insult with intent to provoke the breach of peace. Following the incident, members of the pro-Kannada organisation Karnataka Rakshana Vedike also filed a petition demanding action against the accused. The police said that, based on the information provided by the delivery executive, Sarkar was traced and arrested.
