3.05 Southwell – Play At The Races Stableduel Maiden Hurdle (2m)
Today's nap is the Ben Pauling-trained WOLF MOON, who bids to go one better than his racecourse debut last month at Southwell (2m, soft).
That day he did everything but beat the 2024 German Derby winner Palladium, who is currently 16/1 for the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham and overpriced according to his trainer's recent comments.
The form of that race has been boosted since by Karton Plein, who finished 18½ lengths behind Wolf Moon and a further two behind the winner, shedding his maiden tag on his subsequent outing.
None of today's opponents have form that is likely to trouble a Grade 1 contender at Cheltenham so there's confidence that the week will begin with a win.
4.25 Wolverhampton – Gamble Responsibly At BetUK Handicap (1m 1½f)
Our only selection from the all-weather card at Dunstall Park, FAST SOCIETY, can help trainer Andrew Balding continue the form that has brought him a 30 per cent strike-rate over the past 14 days.
With two wins from three starts in novice events, the four-year-old gelding showed plenty of early promise. He hasn't yet got his head in front in two runs this winter, but his second here last time out was very promising and, notably, he currently holds a Lincoln Handicap entry for next month.
As the youngest horse in this field, Fast Society has the most scope for improvement, especially with this small step up in trip from 1m 1½f to 1m ½f.
3.40 Southwell – Watch Unbridled On attheraces.com Handicap Hurdle (2m 4½f)
OWL OF ATHENS landed a huge gamble for his connections in similar conditions last month when he recorded an eight-length victory at Uttoxeter (2m 4f, good to soft).
Given his 11lb rise for that win it's understandable that there hasn't been the same market support for today's favourite, however when a horse lands a gamble of that size there is usually plenty of improvement in the tank.
The form has been franked since with the Icaque de L'Isle, the third at Uttoxeter, winning on his next start at Lingfield last week.

Ukrainian Usyk can edge box-office battle with England's Dubois
Daniel Dubois has improved immeasurably since he was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk in their initial rumble a couple of years ago, the big question is whether it's enough to see him become Britain's first undisputed world heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis nearly a quarter of a century ago? When they faced each other in the ring in Poland in August 2023, the Ukrainian stopped Dubois in round nine with some pundits suggesting the Londoner ran out of both heart and gas. But Dubois is still irked by the controversial decision to give Usyk a breather after it was ruled that a borderline punch from Dubois was in fact a low blow and his camp insist Saturday's renewal at Wembley Stadium in London, which has an astronomical £151million purse, will be different. Usyk, who turned 38 in January, will take £98m back to Ukraine where he still lives – dishing out food and supplies to compatriots suffering from bombings during the war with Russia – while Dubois will bank a few quid shy of £53m. Usyk has beaten Tyson Fury in two brutal battles twice since defeating Dubois while his opponent has bravely rallied from losing for the first time in his career and overpowered Filip Hrgovic, who reputedly bullied him in sparring earlier in their respective developments, to become the IBF's interim champion before taking the full title from Anthony Joshua in devastating fashion by knocking him out in the fifth round of a stunning, one-sided, contest at Wembley last September. Despite his age, Usyk still looks fitter than a butcher's dog and is the better technical boxer but Dubois, 27, is more resilient than he has been in the past and his strength could wear down the older man in the later stages, giving him an all-important edge in the championship rounds towards the end of what promises to be a bruising blockbuster. Dubois certainly looks value to win at 3/1 with Paddy Power, Betfair, Sky Sports, StarSports and Bresbet and 11/1 with bet365 to win on points is bigger than one of his crunching overhand rights. Usyk is no bigger than 4/11 with William Hill to have his hand lifted in triumph and 15/8 with Betfred to win on points and fight fans who are undecided can back the explosive encounter to go over 10.5 rounds at a widespread 10/11. This is going to be one for the ages and we reckon Usyk can add to his legacy by emerging on top. England have been brilliant since their 2-1 defeat to France in the opening group game at the Women's European Championship in Switzerland, beating Netherlands 4-1 and Wales 6-1, and head into the quarter-final with Sweden brimming with confidence. The Scandinavians are also on cloud nine after a 4-1 victory over Germany and both sides know victory will leave them with a winnable semi-final against either Norway or Italy next week. The victory over Germany is the only time the Swedes have conceded so far and the way the Lionesses allowed Wales to carve them open late in the game, when admittedly their best players had been substituted, is a defensive concern. But England won 4-0 when the two nations met in the semi-finals three years ago and although a repeat of that score is highly unlikely they should still emerge triumphant at 57/50 with BetMGM. Lauren James has been sensational in the last two outings and is 7/1 with Betway, Sporting Index and SpreadEx to put her side ahead while 5/2 with the latter two firms to score at any time. The preparations and mind games are over, it's time to knuckle down to business as the British & Irish Lions play the first of three Tests against Australia in Brisbane on Saturday morning. His next best is Yarmouth runner Schrodinger's Cat (6.40) TRAVEL back for success with ANCIENT TIMES (4.30, nap) in the 5th Regiment Royal Artillery Handicap at Catterick on Wednesday. The Harry Eustace trainee made a victorious start to the season in a Doncaster handicap over five furlongs before stepping up in trip to six at Goodwood, where he was only beaten half a length by Pop Dancer. Remaining at six furlongs, the seven-year-old headed back north to Catterick where he just got his neck in front of Arecibo in a veterans' handicap. But now Fury is keen for success in the National Hunt game - after buying two horses for £50,000 and sending them into training with Jimmy Moffatt. Top bloodstock agent Jerry McGrath signed for former Joseph O'Brien horse Cossack Chach at the Goffs UK October Sale in Doncaster last year. Fury and Brown splashed £36,000 on the two-time winner and also bought £14,000 Sea The Clouds, who's already won at Moffatt's local track Cartmel. Bosses at the Lancashire venue - not far from Fury's Morecambe home - are busy planning for the boxer's possible arrival during one of their summer racedays. Fury - who is reportedly eyeing up a mega-fight with Anthony Joshua - has been to Cartmel races before but not with two potential runners of this quality. Speaking to the Racing Post, trainer Moffatt - who landed one of most ridiculous wins ever on The Steward at Newcastle - said: "I met Spencer at Cartmel races last August and he said he wanted to go through Cartmel this summer. "Tyson has not been to the yard yet but there was talk he was going to make an appearance at Cartmel this summer, although I see they're getting busy again now. "I saw him at the track three years ago so he's certainly been there at least once." Moffatt has high confidence Sea The Clouds - who he said was a 'steal' at the price - will love the fast summer conditions. He was beaten just a nose over 2m6f at Cartmel in May - and won at the track for his previous trainer Jamie Snowden this time last year. Coassack Chach, a five-year-old gelding, is 'more of a chasing type and hopefully we'll have a bit of fun with him'. Moffatt added: "We're giving him a couple of months off before starting him for a proper winter campaign. "He's a proper chaser – a great big horse with a big engine."
