Lehigh Valley Phantoms' Eetu Makiniemi Signs In Finland
Lehigh Valley Phantoms goaltender Eetu Makiniemi has signed a one-year deal in Finland with TPS, it was announced late last week.
Makiniemi, a 2017 fourth-round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes, spent this season with the Phantoms, going 3-0-2 while posting a 3.03 GAA and a .899 SP. Since coming over to North America in 2021, Makiniemi has appeared in 59 career AHL games (with the Phantoms, Chicago Wolves and San Jose Barracuda), posting a record of 30-20-6 along with a 2.79 GAA and a .905 SP.

Throughout his time in North America, Makiniemi got into two regular season games with the San Jose Sharks, going 1-0-1 while collecting a 2.13 GAA and a .906 SP.
With Makiniemi heading back to his home country, he should have the chance to play a big role with TPS. Having posted solid numbers in Liiga in the past, Makiniemi could be one of the better goalies in the league and guide his team to the playoffs.

Associated Press WELLESLEY, Mass. (AP) — The Boston Fleet have hired Kris Sparre as the second head coach in the PWHL franchise's history. Sparre, a 38-year-old veteran assistant with no experience in the women's game, replaces Courtney Kessel, who had a 27-19-8 record and a Walter Cup Finals appearance before leaving to take over at Princeton. Her departure leaves only two female head coaches among the PWHL's eight teams. 'This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a league that has experienced remarkable growth and momentum in recent seasons,' said Sparre, who played junior hockey and in Germany and coached in the OHL, AHL and Austria's top league. 'Boston stands as one of the premier sports cities in the world, and I look forward to building a program that is capable of contending for a championship every season.' A Toronto-area native, Sparre played nine seasons as a forward in the minor leagues and in Germany. He was an assistant coach for Red Bull Salzburg from 2019-21 before spending three seasons with the San Diego Gulls, the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks. Fleet general manager Danielle Marmer said Sparre's experience in the AHL, where coaches need to balance winning with player development, will make him a good fit. 'Our players need to grow and perform in real time, and Kris understands how to create that environment,' she said. 'He's known as a relationship-driven coach and an elite communicator — someone who builds trust, connects with players, and brings energy and purpose to the rink every day.' The Fleet have eight players remaining from the roster that reached finals in the PWHL's inaugural season. Texas Stars Re-Sign Artem Shlaine To One-Year Deal
The Texas Stars have signed forward Artem Shlaine to a one-year extension, it was announced earlier this week. A product of Moskva, Russia, Shlaine split time this season between Arizona State (NCAA) and the Stars. While he collected an assist in six AHL games, Shlaine scored 17 goals and added 21 assists for 38 points in 31 games for the Sun Devils. Before joining Texas at the end of last season, Shlaine spent five seasons in the NCAA with Arizona State, Connecticut and Northern Michigan. Over that span, he scored 46 goals and added 73 assists for 119 points in 155 career games. With Shlaine staying put with the Stars, he will have a strong opportunity to spend the entire year in the AHL. Having proven himself to be a dominant collegiate player, Shlaine has the skills needed to play in all situations for his team.
