Japan backs India in fight against terror

Hans India06-05-2025
New Delhi: India and Japan condemned terrorism in all its forms and emphasised the need for global cooperation to fight terror during the meeting of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh with his Japanese counterpart Gen Nakatani, on Monday.
Singh condemned Pakistan's state policy of cross-border terrorism against India, perpetrated through state and non-state actors, and pointed out that such attacks destabilise regional peace and security. He called for a unified stand against terrorism and the state-sponsored actions that perpetuate it. The Japanese Defence Minister expressed his condolences for the tragic Pahalgam terrorist attack and offered full support to India.
The leaders reviewed the defence and security pillars of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and reaffirmed their commitment towards strengthening the bilateral ties and contributing towards regional peace.
The Defence Ministers welcomed the growing diversity and frequency of defence exercises and exchanges between the two countries and agreed to increase the scope and complexity of these engagements.
Both sides agreed to enhance industry cooperation, including exploring collaboration in niche domains such as automation, Artificial Intelligence, cyber and space.
India and Japan share a long-term friendship, which has further gained qualitative momentum after the elevation of this collaboration to Special Strategic & Global Partnership in 2014.

ISS astronaut makes kimchi fried rice in space: Does it taste any different?

Image credits: Canva (Representative image) If you've been dreaming of going to space, one of the points to note among many is that taking and making your favourite food there, is a limited and rare possibility. Be it your mum's signature dish or a guilty pleasure, living in space requires you to suffice in some basic food for the time being. Over the years, scientists and astronauts have been working to expand the space menu with determined research and have been making gradual progress with it. Expedition 73 is the 73rd long-duration expedition sent to the International Space Station (ISS) on April 19, 2025. The crew will be returning to Earth in November, and till then, the members have been continuing science research and maintenance activities aboard the ISS. On July 24, 2025, NASA astronaut Jonny Kim, a flight engineer part of the Expedition 73 crew, had a conversation with 125 participants from 39 countries in the International Space University Space Studies Program held in Seoul, South Korea this year. After hearing how the ISU attendees had been enjoying the local Korean cuisine, Kim shared his own experience of making kimchi fried rice aboard the ISS and how it tasted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: Unsold Sofas Prices May Surprise You (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo "They've been enjoying some Korean cuisine. Did you take any Korean cuisine with you to the space station?" asked a person to Kim. "Annyeonghaseyo (hello), I did, of course," began Kim. "I had a cargo mission come up that had some of my most favorite foods. So of course I had kimchi brought up. I had gochujang, which is a red pepper paste, and I had rice come up. So with those ingredients, and of course, some Spam, I was able to make my own space version of kimchi fried rice." How did it taste? Well, according to the astronaut, it wasn't as good as he could make it at home on Earth. However, in space, they have to work with the best they've got, and he "really, really enjoyed it." Image credits: X Kim, 41, is known to share his culinary experiments in space on X (formerly Twitter). Previously, the astronaut with a following of 71.4K had shared a post on making sushi in space with gochujang, fish, spam, rice and wasabi. However, in order to plate the Japanese dish, they had to make use of orient tape so that the sushi wouldn't float away. Recently, he and his crew members also shared a meal with the Axiom 4 crew, where they had shrimp cocktails and crackers for starters, savoury chicken and beef fajitas for the main course and a cake made from sweet bread, condensed milk and walnuts for dessert. Why does food taste different in space? Image credits: X/@JonnyKimUSA Be it kimchi fried rice or sushi, according to astronauts, the food in space does not taste similar to Earth, even with the same ingredients. Why so? One of the primary reasons, as per NASA , is fluid shift. From the early 1960s, astronauts found that their taste buds were not as effective in space as on Earth. This is because fluids in the body are affected by the reduced gravity conditions. While on Earth, gravity pulls the fluid into our legs; in space, it is equally distributed in the body, thus affecting the ability to smell and taste. Additionally, in the confines of a small space like the space station, the food competes with other odours such as body odours, machinery and more and could thus 'dull' the sense of taste.

Chirag's remarks on crimes show his weakness; he has no concerns for Bihar, alleges Tejashwi

A day after Union Minister Chirag Paswan slammed the Nitish Kumar government over the law and order situation in Bihar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday claimed that the Hajipur MP's comment showed his "weakness" as a ruling NDA partner, and alleged that he has "no real concerns" for the state. Yadav was reacting to the remarks of Chirag, the chief of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), which drew a sharp reaction from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD (U), exposing cracks in the NDA ahead of the assembly polls. The idea? Genius. Enence 2.0 Undo "Chiarg Paswan has merely demonstrated his weakness as a minister and as a coalition partner. His comments show he loves only his chair and has no real concerns for Bihar," Yadav alleged. Paswan had on Saturday said, "Law and order have completely collapsed in the state. The police have surrendered to criminals in Bihar. I regret having to support a government which is unable to prevent such crimes. The situation of Bihar has, indeed, become scary." Live Events Yadav also alleged that there is "no law and order" in the state. Asked about the incident of alleged gang-rape of a woman inside an ambulance in Gayaji, Yadav said, "It's shocking and shameful. Just imagine the law and order situation in the state." "More than 100 murders took place in the last one week in the state. They (NDA) call it a double-engine government. One engine is crime, and another is corruption. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has pulled up the Bihar government for failing to submit utilisation certificates (UCs) worth over Rs 70,877 crore. There is a scam of more than Rs 70,000 crore," the RJD leader alleged. The CAG report on state finances for 2023-24 was tabled in the state assembly on Thursday. "Despite the requirement of submitting UCs within stipulated time period, 49,649 outstanding UCs of Rs 70,877.61 crore were not received by the Accountant General (Accounts & Entitlements), Bihar, as on March 31, 2024", the report had said. The high pendency of UCs is "fraught with the risk of embezzlement, misappropriation and diversion of funds", it added. Union minister and founder of Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday slammed Paswan for his outbursts over the alleged increase in crimes in Bihar. "He (Chirag) is a new entrant in politics. He has not seen the days of jungle raj in the state before 2005. If he is not aware of the situation during the RJD rule, he should not make such comments. Now, the law and order situation is undoubtedly much better. Bihar is rapidly developing under the NDA rule", he told reporters in Gayaji.

The BJP leader said India Gandhi believed 50 years back that an election's validity would be subject to her win, and Rahul Gandhi also suffers from the same "Emergency mindset". Live Events "According to Gandhi, the EC did a good job in Telangana, Punjab, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh because the INDIA bloc parties won there but not so in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana as the BJP won in these states," he said. Ahead of Parliament taking up a discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, the BJP leader said India's military response was an unprecedented exercise that showed the valour and capability of the armed forces, while the Opposition is trying to insult them.
