Chhattisgarh couple renounces 25-year association with banned outfit CPI (Maoist), surrenders to police
Tulavi, during his long association with the Maoist organisation, rose to the level of a divisional committee member, became a trained cadre of Peoples' Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) squad, and imparted the the ideology of the banned outfit through Mobile Political School, the police said. The Mohla-Manpur area is adjacent to other Maoist-affected districts of Gadchiroli and Kanker.
Tulavi, a resident of Parvidih village in Mohla-Manpur, was active in the education unit of the Maoist organisation and was mostly engaged in the ultra's propaganda network in Abujhmad area in Narayanpur and south Bastar districts of Dantewada, Sukma, Bijapur and Rajnandgaon through Mobile Academic School (MAS).

Smart meters burden on consumers: CPI
Rajamahendravaram: CPI national executive member Akkineni Vanaja has asserted that the Communist Party of India will continue its fight until the government halts the installation of smart electricity meters. Addressing a press conference at the CPI office here on Tuesday, she said the burden of smart meters will ultimately fall on consumers, leading to increased financial pressure. Vanaja criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign tour while Parliament is in session, calling it inappropriate and a dishonour to the nation's highest democratic institution. Referring to former US President Donald Trump's claim of mediating 23 times after the Pahalgam incident, she said it was shameful and demanded that Modi respond to the nation on the issue. She also came down heavily on the BJP government's policies, blaming them for rising unemployment and economic distress. Taking a jibe at TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Vanaja questioned why he is now resorting to borrowing, the same act he previously criticised in Jagan Mohan Reddy's administration. Commenting on the Polavaram project, she alleged that reducing the dam height and exposing the Banakacharla plans were actions that hurt the project's interests. Even after one year in power, the alliance government has failed to do justice to the Polavaram displaced families, she said. She also accused Chandrababu Naidu of failing to secure central funds for the project. Vanaja announced that CPI will organise a national convention to oppose the anti-people policies of both the Central and State governments. Speaking on the occasion, CPI East Godavari district secretary Tatipaka Madhu said the party's 26th district conference will be held on August 6 and 7 in Rajamahendravaram, with delegates from all 17 mandals participating. A massive rally will begin at 2 PM on August 6 from the CPI office, followed by a public meeting at 4 PM at Subrahmanyam Grounds. CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna, assistant secretary JV Satyanarayana Murthy, national executive member Akkineni Vanaja, and state executive member Ravulapalli Ravindranath will address the meeting. CPI district assistant secretary Kondrapu Rambabu, city secretary V Kondalarao, Jathla Sangham general secretary Sappa Ramana, party leaders PLavanya, Chintalapudi Sunil, and AIYF district secretary P Trimurthulu also participated.

Residents of Punjabi Bagh protest outside Delhi CM's house over Railways' demolition notice
NEW DELHI: Hundreds of residents and activists staged a protest march outside CM Rekha Gupta's residence on Tuesday, demanding urgent intervention to stop the threatened eviction of Indira Colony — a DUSIB-notified settlement in Punjabi Bagh — following what they alleged was an illegal demolition notice issued by the Railways. The protest, organised under the banner of Aawaas Adhikar Jan Andolan, saw participation from multiple organisations, including CPI(M), CPI(ML), CPI, CITU, DYFI, AIDWA, and AICCTU, along with local residents. Protesters raised slogans against what they termed the BJP-led government's 'bulldozer politics' and accused authorities of targeting long-settled urban poor without a proper rehabilitation plan. CPI(M) Delhi leaders Asha Sharma and Siddheshwar Shukla, DYFI Delhi Secretary Aman Saini, CPI(M) North West LC Secretary Govind Jha, CPI(ML) leaders R.P. Singh and Shweta Raj, CPI leader Sanjeev Rana, and AIDWA leader Meena addressed the gathering. They warned that the demolition would displace thousands, disrupt children's education, and endanger livelihoods. A delegation of party leaders and residents submitted a memorandum to the CM, urging her to stop the demolition, citing DUSIB norms and the 'Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makan' policy. Activists noted that the Railways had earlier submitted an undertaking in the SC not to demolish jhuggis without first finalising rehabilitation plans , a process they said was bypassed.

Danger of ‘mass disenfranchisement': In meet with EC, CPI(ML) demands halt to Bihar SIR
Highlighting what it described as the danger of 'mass disenfranchisement', the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) Liberation Tuesday demanded that the Election Commission stop its ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar. A delegation of CPI (ML) leaders met the three-member commission on Tuesday, as a part of the EC's ongoing initiative to interact with national and state parties on the issue. The SIR was started in Bihar with the EC's order on June 24. As per the order, all 7.8 crore electors of Bihar have to fill enumeration forms by July 25 in order to be included in the draft roll to be published on August 1. In addition, for all those added to the rolls after January 1, 2003, the EC has asked for documents to establish eligibility, including citizenship. 'On the basis of our experience of the first four weeks of the SIR drive in Bihar, we are afraid that mass disenfranchisement remains a very real danger for Bihar's poor, women, migrant workers and young electors, with all its alarming consequences,' the CPI (ML) said in a memorandum submitted to the EC. The party said that a large number of electors do not have the 11 documents listed by the EC, which do not include Aadhaar and voter ID. 'Even applying for possible documents like domicile certificate or caste certificate has now become inordinately difficult and in all likelihood, millions will not be able to submit any documents unless the EC accepts the Supreme Court suggestion of including Aadhaar cards, ration cards or voter cards. Leaving it to the EROs to decide about all such cases on the basis of local investigations would leave the electoral roll susceptible to all kinds of bias and arbitrary administrative errors and possible manipulations and thus render the integrity of the electoral roll highly suspect,' the party said. Meanwhile, the EC issued a statement Tuesday saying that 90.67% forms had been received so far and 52.30 lakh electors were not found at their addresses.
