Marlins rally from 4 runs down to beat D-backs in 10 innings
June 28 - Agustin Ramirez singled in the winning run in the 10th inning and the Miami Marlins overcame a four-run deficit to extend their season-best winning streak to six games with an 8-7, 10-inning victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix on Saturday. Ramirez had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two. Otto Lopez homered and drove in three while extending his hitting streak to nine games, during which he is 16 of 37 with 13 RBIs. Ketel Marte hit a three-run homer and drove in four, Geraldo Perdomo had three hits and scored twice and James McCann had two hits and an RBI for the D-backs, who have lost three in a row. Lopez homered in a three-run eighth to start the Marlins' comeback that made it 7-6, and the Marlins tied it in the ninth off Shelby Miller, who blew his fifth save. Dane Myers singled to open the ninth and stole second and third -- that on a call that was overturned by replay review -- before scoring on Heriberto Hernandez's sacrifice fly to tie it. Anthony Bender (2-5) retired all six he faced for the win. Juan Morillo (0-2) gave up Ramirez's leadoff single in the 10th that scored automatic runner Lopez. D-backs starter Brandon Pfaadt gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) in five innings, with seven strikeouts and one walk. He gave up two runs in a 34-pitch first inning but struck out the side after loading the bases to avoid further damage. Sandy Alcantara gave up seven runs and 10 hits in six innings, leaving after throwing 91 pitches. He struck out four without a walk. He had made quality starts in three of his last four appearances. The first five Marlins reached base in the 2-0 first. Xavier Edwards and Jesus Sanchez singled, and Edwards scored on shortstop Perdomo's fielding error. Ramirez's ground-rule double drove in Sanchez, and Pfaadt walked Kyle Stowers to load the bases before striking out the side. Perdomo doubled and scored on Pavin Smith's sacrifice fly in the last of the first. Eric Wagaman's RBI double in the third gave the Marlins a 3-1 lead before Marte hit his 16th homer to cap a five-run fourth. Perdomo's two-out single drove in McCarthy before Marte's opposite-field homer made it 6-3. McCann doubled and scored on Marte's sacrifice fly for a 7-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth. --Field Level Media

Royals top Dodgers to snap 11-game home skid
June 28 - Kansas City's offense woke up after Shohei Ohtani exited from tossing two scoreless innings, and the Royals snapped their 11-game home skid with Saturday's 9-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Vinnie Pasquantino led Kansas City with a three-run homer and five RBIs. Bobby Witt Jr. and Jonathan India each had four hits for the Royals, who scored one more run than they did while losing their previous six games overall. Meanwhile, Royals pitcher Seth Lugo (5-5) allowed four hits and five walks while striking out eight over 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Daniel Lynch IV yielded a solo homer to Freddie Freeman, who had three hits, in the seventh, but the potent Dodgers did not threaten until a four-run ninth. After going an inning in each of his first two 2025 starts, Ohtani was stretched to two innings on Saturday. He allowed a first-inning single to Witt and walked Maikel Garcia but got Pasquantino to hit into a 4-6-3 inning-ending double play. The right-hander then retired the side in the second, completing his 27-pitch performance. As he had done in Ohtani's first two starts, Ben Casparius (6-2) came on in the third, and the Royals wasted no time getting to the right-hander. He walked Drew Waters, allowed a two-out single to India, followed by Witt's flare double near the right-field line. Then Garcia sent a drive off the top of the left-field wall, just over the glove of a leaping Michael Conforto, for a two-run double. The Royals broke things open in the fifth against Casparius. Kyle Isbel rapped a one-out hit and advanced to second base on center-fielder Andy Pages' error. He then scored on an India single. After Witt singled and Garcia lined out, Pasquantino found the right-center field fan area for his first homer at home since May 16, giving Kansas City a 6-0 lead. Pasquantino doubled down the right-field line in the seventh, scoring two more. He then came home on Salvador Perez's two-base hit. Ohtani went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts at the plate. --Field Level Media

Rays take command, clamp down against Orioles
June 28 - Jonathan Aranda smacked a two-run home run and Yandy Diaz had a three-run blast to support stellar pitching from Zack Littell in the Tampa Bay Rays' 11-3 romp past the host Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. Littell (7-7) avenged a June 17 home loss to Baltimore, striking out five and limiting the Orioles to three hits in seven innings. Jake Mangum had three hits, while Josh Lowe, Diaz, Junior Caminero and Chandler Simpson all had two hits for the Rays, who've won four of their last five games. Matt Thais provided a two-run triple and Taylor Walls also knocked in two runs. A day after blowing a 6-0 lead in a 22-8 loss Friday night, the Rays stayed in command in this game. Chadwick Tromp's two-out solo home run in the fifth inning broke up the shutout bid. Ramon Laureano added a two-run shot in the ninth. Jackson Holliday had the other two hits -- both singles -- off Littell and three hits total Orioles starter Zach Eflin (6-5) pitched just one inning, giving up four runs on five hits against his former team. Joe Rock, making his major league debut, pitched the final two innings for Tampa Bay. He surrendered Laureano's 10th homer of the year. Rock was scheduled to be the starting pitcher for Triple-A Durham, but instead was summoned to the major leagues after the Rays went through multiple pitchers Friday. Rock struck out four and gave up four hits. Brandon Lowe drove in Tampa Bay's first run with a single before Aranda homered for the second day in a row and the 10th time this season. Then Caminero and Mangum followed with singles and Simpson's fielder's choice grounder drove in a run to make it 4-0. After the first of two Walls sacrifice flies, Diaz's homer stretched the margin to 8-0 in the fourth. Baltimore's third hit came with Tromp's first big-league home run since 2021. --Field Level Media
