Florida's Bennett Anderson sparks viral moment after flirty March Madness interview with ESPN student reporter

Fox News31-03-2025
Florida will join its fellow No. 1 seeds later this week in the Final Four.
The Gators defeated Texas Tech this past Saturday to advance to the semifinals. But before that, they needed to make it past Maryland in the Sweet 16. UF took care of business against the Terrapins, but a walk-on's postgame interview made headlines.
Bennett Anderson, who also had a stint as the Gators team manager, doesn't typically draw much attention from members of the media. He has seen a limited amount of playing time and has scored a total of four points this season.
But he appeared to enjoy the opportunity to have a camera focus on him and was particularly fond of the person who conducted the interview. ESPN Gainesville student reporter Talia Baia asked Anderson a few questions, including one about him making just his second basket of the season.
"Hopefully these guys take care of business so I can play again, hopefully I can get another bucket," Anderson told Baia. Anderson's lone basket in the game happened after he grabbed an offensive rebound in the final minute of the Sweet 16 game. He then drove to the hoop and made a layup.
A video of the interview posted to Baia's social media account drew more than 7 million views as of Monday morning.
Some social media users suggested that the Florida basketball player was enamored with the student reporter. "That man is in love lol," on X user wrote.
Anderson did not take the court during Florida's victory over Texas Tech in the Elite Eight. Florida will take on SEC foe Auburn in the Final Four on Saturday in San Antonio. The game will mark the Gators' sixth Final Four appearance in program history.
Houston will meet Duke later on Saturday in the other semifinal game. The winners of both of those games will advance to the national championship game at the Alamodome.

Bucs GM Had Telling Update On Star WR Chris Godwin

Bucs GM Had Telling Update On Star WR Chris Godwin originally appeared on The Spun. As Bucs wide receiver Chris Godwin continues to work his way through recovering from the Week 7 ankle injury that he suffered last season, the future's still a bit uncertain for the 29-year-old Super Bowl champ. While Tampa Bay reportedly believes "there's a chance" the former Pro Bowler is able to suit up for Week 1, it's also possible that he misses a few games. When asked if he envisions Godwin starting the season on the active roster, Bucs GM Jason Licht admitted "That, we don't know yet." But did offer a little bit of insight into how the veteran is healing up heading into Year 9. "He's doing very well," Licht shared. "He's advancing through his protocols, he's exactly where they anticipated and hoped he would be at this point. We've still got a ways to go." Godwin is currently on the PUP list with Buccaneers training camp underway after signing a three-year, $66 million contract this offseason. In eight seasons in Tampa Bay, Godwin has caught 579 passes for 7,266 yards and 39 touchdowns — good for second-most in team history in all of those categories. With the organization drafting Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka in the first round back in April, some felt the Bucs were preparing for life without Godwin, including ESPN analyst and former Tampa DT Booger McFarland. "I just watch what they do as far as actions of people and not necessarily listen to what they say. And if you watch what the Bucs did, they drafted a wide receiver in the first round when clearly they needed to put all their resources on defense," McFarland said earlier this year. "Based on what we saw from Chris Godwin at the end of last season, I think the Bucs are telling us they don't think he's going to be ready and it's going to be a while," he added. "So I fully expect Chris Godwin not to be ready to start the season. And to be honest, I'm not really sure anyone in that building knows what to expect based on the injury history of what he's had the last couple years."Bucs GM Had Telling Update On Star WR Chris Godwin first appeared on The Spun on Aug 5, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 5, 2025, where it first appeared.

Desmond Reid named to Doak Walker Award watch list

University of Pittsburgh senior running back Desmond Reid has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2025 Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's most outstanding college running back by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum. Reid is among the elite backs recognized nationally after a dynamic 2024 season in which the Miami Gardens, Fla., native compiled 966 rushing yards, 579 receiving yards, 159 punt return yards, and scored touchdowns three different ways. The Doak Walker Award is named in honor of SMU legend and three-time All-American Doak Walker. Ten semifinalists will be named in November, followed by three finalists later that month. The winner will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12. This year's watch list features standout performers from across the country, including 2024 Doak Walker semifinalist Makhi Hughes (Oregon), Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love, and Louisville's Isaac Brown. Reid's inclusion is another major preseason recognition for the senior running back, who has already been named to the All-ACC Team and several national award watch lists.
