Ranger Suarez, Phillies outlast Braves in pitchers' duel
June 29 - Philadelphia's Ranger Suarez pitched seven strong innings to outduel Atlanta's Spencer Strider and lead the Phillies to a 2-1 victory over the Braves on Sunday in the rubber game of their three-game series.
The Phillies lead the season series 5-4; the teams meet for the final time in a four-game series in Philadelphia on Aug. 28-31.
Suarez (7-2) allowed one run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts to lower his ERA to 2.00. It was the ninth time in 11 starts that Suarez has allowed two or fewer runs. Suarez also recorded his 10th straight quality start.
The bullpen covered the final two innings. Orion Kerkering struck out three batters in the eighth. Matt Strahm allowed runners to reach the corners in the ninth but retired Stuart Fairchild on a fly to center to earn his fifth save.
Strider (3-6) saw his three-start winning streak come to an end. He pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on five hits, with three walks and four strikeouts.
The Braves scored a run in the second inning when Sean Murphy hit a solo home run, his 11th, on a 451-foot blast to straightaway center field. It was the second straight game in which Murphy has gone deep; he hit a grand slam on Saturday.
The Phillies scored both their runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. Bryson Stott singled and scored on Otto Kemp's double to left. Kemp was sacrificed to third by Brandon Marsh, then scored on Trea Turner's sacrifice fly to shallow center.
Atlanta's Matt Olson had a pair of hits and extended his streak of reaching base to 30 games, the longest active stretch in the major leagues and the longest for an Atlanta player since Freddie Freeman reached in 33 straight games in 2020.

Kane bags double as Bayern tame Flamengo to set up PSG clash
MIAMI, June 29 (Reuters) - Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich tamed Flamengo 4-2 in a tense affair at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday to set up a much-anticipated all-European quarter-final against Paris St Germain at the Club World Cup. Erick Pulgar's own goal opened the scoring for Bayern and Leon Goretzka was also on target for the German side, while Flamengo, who were defensively naive, twice reduced the deficit through Gerson and Jorginho. Backed by a raucous crowd, Flamengo played with aggression but Bayern converted all their shots on target and reaped the rewards of a fast start, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes. "It was tough. We were playing against a really good side in difficult conditions, it was really hot," Kane said. "I thought we played well for large spells but every time we got away they clawed their way back and made it difficult. The fourth goal was important to ease the nerves and from there we managed it well." Earlier on Sunday, Champions League winners PSG sent a brutal reminder of their firepower when they cruised past Inter Miami 4-0, taking their foot off the pedal after the break in what could have turned into a humiliation for Lionel Messi's MLS team. Bayern got off to a flying start, opening the scoring in the sixth minute when Pulgar deflected a corner kick into his own net. Three minutes later, Kane doubled the advantage with a low shot that went in off the post. Flamengo got into something of a groove and went close in the 15th minute, only for Manuel Neuer to save Luiz Araujo's effort from point-blank range. Shortly after the cooling break, the Brazilian side pulled one back as Gerson fired a missile that went in off the underside of the bar, triggering a deafening roar from the crowd. Bayern, however, restored their two-goal lead before the interval when Goretzka, capitalising on the space left by the Flamengo defence, whipped a shot from outside the box past keeper Agustin Rossi. Tempers flared after a poor challenge by Pulgar on Kane as Flamengo struggled to contain their frustration. Filipe Luis's side pulled one back again 10 minutes into the second half, Jorginho sending Neuer the wrong way after they were awarded a penalty for a Michael Olise handball. The momentum had swung and Flamengo threatened with quick breaks, but Bayern held firm before finding the back of the net once more through Kane, who beat Rossi with another clinical low shot in the 73rd minute.

Jake Paul threatens to sue 'pig' Piers Morgan over 'lies'... just days after furiously storming off his TV show
Jake Paul has ordered his team to 'vigorously go after' Piers Morgan after the TV host branded the YouTuber-turned-boxer's win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. 'staged bulls***'. Paul secured a comfortable points victory over Chavez Jr., the son and namesake of a boxing great, in Anaheim on Saturday night. Boos rang out at Honda Center as Paul extended his professional boxing record to 12-1. It was his first fight since beating 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a hugely controversial bout. TV host Morgan called Paul's latest win an 'unwatchable farce' and suggested the fight was rigged. He also accused the YouTuber of 'killing boxing'. A few days before the fight, Paul had appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored. But he lashed out at the anchor, branding him a 'fat a**' before dramatically ending the interview. 'I had a better fight with Jake Paul on Thursday than the unwatchable farce that took place tonight,' Morgan wrote on X. Paul cut short a fiery interview with Piers Morgan after a foul-mouth tirade about the host 'The guy's lining his pockets with buckets of $$$$ - but he's killing boxing with this boring staged bulls*** against older fighters way past their prime.' But that prompted a furious response from Paul, who vowed to make 'pigs' such as Morgan pay for their 'lies'. 'After years of letting it slide as just 'haters being haters', I have asked my team to vigorously go after anyone who makes up lies about my boxing career. Expect to get served you pigs,' he wrote. Paul's comments came after his business partner, Nakisa Bidarian, called out Morgan for his 'baseless and irresponsible' post and said they would explore legal action. 'This claim is baseless and irresponsible,' Bidarian wrote on social media. 'Last night's fight vs. Chavez Jr. was a fully sanctioned 10-round cruiserweight bout, officiated by the California State Athletic Commission with official judges. 'No staging / rigging —just hard work and a legit win. To say otherwise not only undermines the integrity of the sport, but is defamatory and causes reputational damage to MVP, Jake Paul, and the Commission.

Marlins rally past D-backs, extend win streak to 7
June 29 - Kyle Stowers hit a three-run double to cap a five-run eighth inning and the Miami Marlins extended the major league's long active winning streak to seven with a 6-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix on Sunday. Otto Lopez stretched his hitting streak to 10 games with a two-out, two-run single for a 3-2 lead in the eighth after Jalen Beeks (2-1) walked the bases loaded. Augustin Ramirez was intentionally walked after the runners moved up on the throw to the plate before Stowers doubled to center to make it 6-2. Lopez is 17-for-41 with 15 RBIs during his hitting streak. The Marlins completed their first 6-0 road trip in franchise history, beginning with a three-game sweep in San Francisco. Ketel Marte homered for the second straight game and Eugenio Suarez had two hits and an RBI for the D-backs, who have lost four in a row. The D-backs lost an eighth-inning lead for the second straight game. Suarez singled in a run and another scored on a wild pitch when the D-backs closed to 6-4 in the eighth, but Ronny Henriquez pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his third save in five chances. Lake Bachar (4-0) retired all six he faced for the win. Eric Wagaman had two hits and an RBI and Ramirez tripled and scored for the Marlins. Jake McCarthy had an RBI triple for the D-backs. Benches cleared during Jesus Sanchez's at-bat with two outs in the ninth after he and D-backs catcher Jose Herrera had words. No discipline was merited. Arizona starter Eduardo Rodriguez gave up one run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings, leaving after reaching a season-high 108 pitches. He struck out six and walked three. He has a 1.98 ERA in five starts since returning from the injured list. Miami starter Cal Quantrill gave three hits and two runs in five innings, with five strikeouts and one walk. He has not given up more than three runs in any of his last 10 starts. Ramirez tripled and scored on Wagaman's infield single for a 1-0 lead in the third inning. McCarthy's triple tied it in the second, and Marte's 17th homer made it 2-1 in the third. Marte has five homers and 13 RBIs in his last nine games. --Field Level Media
