Tailor delighted after winning RM1mil BSN SSP lucky draw
Roswani expressed her surprise at receiving a call from a BSN officer on the fourth day of Aidilfitri on April 3, informing her that she had won RM1 million in the draw.
"Initially, I couldn't believe it, but the officer tried to convince me and asked me to come to the BSN office. Alhamdulillah, it was true that I had been picked. I will continue to save my winnings in the BSN SSP account as I want to increase my savings for the future," she told reporters here today.
She related that she has saved money in her BSN account for over 20 years, but only began saving in the BSN SSP three years ago for a more secure future.
"Saving in BSN SSP made me more disciplined. If I save in a normal account, it's easy to withdraw the money. But saving in BSN SSP, we need to be more careful, as the intention is to save for the long term.
"The source of my savings comes from what I earn from tailoring, and also the money I saved when I worked as a salesperson at a boutique. Sometimes I save RM100 a month, sometimes more," she said.
Roswani plans to donate some of her winnings to charity and take her siblings on umrah as well.
"I'm grateful to BSN for giving this opportunity to people who wish to save. My advice is to continue to save consistently as there are opportunities and it is for the future," she added.-- BERNAMA

Federal territories need tailored solutions, says Dr Zaliha
LABUAN: The Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan should not be treated as a single uniform entity, as each faces distinct economic and social challenges requiring specific solutions, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. 'For too long, the Federal Territories have been treated as one homogenous unit. However, when we consider the realities of economic well-being and public welfare, it is clear that Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan each face very different sets of challenges,' she said in a Facebook post today. Following a post-Cabinet engagement session on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), Dr Zaliha stressed the need for targeted policies. In Kuala Lumpur, she pointed to the widening income gap among urban residents, calling for adjustments to the city's growth model to ensure inclusivity. Putrajaya, as the administrative capital, must lead in policy innovation and governance transparency. Meanwhile, Labuan, despite having Malaysia's second-highest GDP per capita, sees a fiscal imbalance where tax collection (RM47 million) falls short of expenditure (RM95 million). 'Labuan's dependence on oil and gas has declined compared to a decade ago. We must explore new growth areas like tourism and the blue economy,' she said. 'The 13MP's approach must not be one-size-fits-all. Solutions must be locally tailored to address each territory's unique challenges and strengths,' she added. - Bernama

Ancom Nylex's Net Profit For FY2025 Slips To RM63.49 Mln
BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- Ancom Nylex Bhd's net profit for the financial year ended May 31, 2025 (FY2025) slipped to RM63.49 million compared to RM81.47 million recorded in FY2024. Revenue fell to RM1.87 billion from RM1.99 billion previously, the group said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today. Ancom said the lower revenue was largely due to softer contributions from the industrial chemicals segment caused by lower selling prices and volumes, while weaker net profit was chiefly attributed to elevated freight costs and unfavourable foreign exchange (forex) fluctuations. Its managing director and group chief executive officer, Datuk Lee Cheun Wei, said FY2025 has been a demanding year, marked by key geopolitical events that led to elevated freight costs and unfavourable forex fluctuations, which in turn impacted the overall performance. 'Escalating tariffs and volatile trade conditions could further affect both global and domestic economic projections, making it increasingly challenging to anticipate trends in raw material costs and market prices. 'Despite these headwinds, Malaysia's economic growth is anticipated to remain positive over the next 12 months, with potential for further advancement should global conditions stabilise,' he said. For the fourth quarter ended May 31, 2025 (4Q 2025), the group registered a lower net profit of RM17.071 million from RM18.44 million registered in 4Q2024, while revenue fell to RM459.4 million from RM487.2 million previously. For FY2025, the group has paid a first interim dividend by way of distribution of treasury shares on the basis of four treasury shares for every 100 shares, as well as a second interim dividend by way of distribution of treasury shares on the basis of one treasury share for every 100 shares. -- BERNAMA
