Speaking at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, he thanked Russia, China, South Africa and Brazil for supporting Indonesia's admission into Brics and the New Development Bank.

Indonesia launches major EV battery project in West Java
JAKARTA, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a major electric vehicle (EV) battery megaproject in Karawang, West Java. With a joint investment of nearly 6 billion U.S. dollars, the initiative will encompass nickel mining and processing, battery materials production, battery manufacturing, and recycling. Indonesia is currently the world's largest producer of nickel and holds the biggest-known reserves of the metal, an essential component in EV batteries. The project is a joint operation between Indonesia's state-owned miner PT Aneka Tambang (Antam), the state-owned investment holding company PT and Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), in collaboration with Chinese firm Ningbo Contemporary Brunp Lygend Co., Ltd. (CBL). "This groundbreaking is proof of our leaders' seriousness in collaborating with our partners and our friends in China. We can work together on a program that I think can be called colossal, an extraordinary breakthrough," Prabowo said in his speech. Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said that the project is expected to create 35,000 jobs and contribute up to 42 billion dollars annually to Indonesia's GDP. Bahlil noted that the plant will have the capacity to supply batteries for 300,000 vehicles, which would help reduce Indonesia's fuel imports by approximately 300,000 kiloliters per year. He added that the project aligned with Prabowo's vision for more equitable national development. While it was launching in Java, about three-quarters of the total investment is set to be directed to North Maluku province.

He made the statement during a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Integrated Electric Vehicle Battery Industry Ecosystem project in Karawang, West Java, on Sunday. "I have been informed by experts that our nation truly has the ability to achieve energy self-sufficiency, and based on my own calculations, it will not take long. In five years, six years at the latest, we can be energy self-sufficient,' he said. The head of state explained that one of the key pillars of national energy independence is the utilisation of solar power. President Prabowo stated that the battery technology to be produced in Karawang will play a vital role in efficiently storing and distributing solar energy. "Solar power's key lies in battery technology, and today we are witnessing that development,' he remarked. According to the report he received, the current capacity generated at the facility stands at 15 gigawatts. However, to achieve full energy independence, Indonesia will need around 100 gigawatts. "This means we need to multiply projects like this, and I believe our nation is capable of doing so,' Prabowo stated. The electric vehicle battery industry project is a collaboration between the state-owned mining company ANTAM, the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), and a consortium of CATL, Brunp, and Lygend (CBL). The project covers upstream to downstream processing and consists of six sub-projects, five of which are located in East Halmahera, North Maluku, and one in Karawang. As part of the National Strategic Projects (PSN), the project investment totals US$5.9 billion and covers an area of 3,023 hectares. Indonesian transport ministry acts to prevent flight disruptions amid Middle East conflict
JAKARTA (Bernama-ANTARA): The Indonesian government has taken steps to mitigate potential flight disruptions caused by escalating conflict in the Middle East by coordinating with aviation stakeholders, including airlines and air traffic controllers, ANTARA news agency reported. In a statement issued on Sunday, Director General of Air Transport at the Ministry of Transportation, Lukman Laisa, said the ministry continues to monitor the Middle East situation closely to prevent any impact on Indonesia's flight operations. He said the ministry is working with state-run air navigation provider AirNav Indonesia, national airlines, and civil aviation authorities in relevant countries to ensure safe and seamless flight operations, particularly those that pass through Middle Eastern airspace. Laisa noted that, based on the latest Flight Information Region (FIR) data, several airspaces and flight routes in the region remain closed due to security concerns. "The eastern part of the Tehran FIR, parts of the Tel Aviv FIR, the Dubai FIR, and the Cairo FIR are still closed," he said. The ministry has reminded Indonesian airlines to monitor conditions regularly and adjust flight plans when necessary, especially for Hajj flights, which commonly transit the region. The public has been advised to remain calm and follow official updates from airlines and flight authorities. "Updates will be provided regularly based on real-time conditions," Laisa added. Meanwhile, flag carrier Garuda Indonesia resumed its regular Jakarta-Doha route on Saturday after Qatar reopened its airspace.
