Daughter of former Vikings LB named to FIBA basketball U-19 team

USA Today02-07-2025
People often discuss NFL bloodlines when evaluating draft prospects, citing how it can help players develop better athletic traits. Turns out that isn't just the case when it comes to football, as former Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway has proven, or should we say his daughter has proven.
It was announced on Tuesday that Maddyn Greenway, the daughter of Chad Greenway, was selected by USA Basketball to be a part of their FIBA U-19 team. Greenway will join the team as they head to the Czech Republic for the World Cup, where the USA will defend their title from the 2023 games.
Greenway is not just getting recognized by USA Basketball, though; she has also been highly recruited coming out of high school. Greenway is currently committed to Kentucky for basketball, something her dad, a former Iowa Hawkeye, may have some thoughts about.
Chad Greenway took to social media to congratulate his daughter on the accomplishment, bringing it to the attention of Vikings fans worldwide.

Commanders to induct Santana Moss into their Ring of Fame

The Commanders will kick off the 2025 season by adding a player to the franchise's Ring of Fame. The team announced that they will be inducting wide receiver Santana Moss into the group during their Week 1 game against the Giants. Moss will be the 52nd person to join the club. Moss began his NFL career as a Jets first-round pick in 2001 and he moved on to Washington in a 2005 trade that sent wideout Laveranues Coles to New Jersey. Moss spent 10 seasons with the club and picked up 581 catches for 7,867 yards and 47 touchdowns. Moss ranks third in franchise history behind Art Monk and Charley Taylor in catches and fourth behind those two players and Gary Clark in receiving yards. He will join all three of those players as members of the team's Ring of Fame.

Report points to another possible reason for Christian Wilkins release

If you've been watching and/or reading closely, you may have noticed a hint or two that the release of Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins may have related to something other than a dispute over his lingering foot injury. Or, more accurately, that the Raiders could try to point to something other than a disagreement over how to repair the injury to justify not paying him more than $35.2 million in remaining guaranteed money. While the specifics have yet to leak, there's definitely something dangling. In the media ecosystem, some junk that has been making the rounds. Something that has yet to be properly fleshed out for reliable reporting. Josina Anderson recently posted an article that contains an even stronger indication as to the "something else" that could become an issue. "Some league sources believe an incident involving a teammate may have factored in-part into the Raiders' fatigue and release of defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, beyond the management of his foot injury as the reported predominant cause," Anderson wrote. "The Raiders have not officially confirmed an incident or a complaint involving Wilkins and a teammate, while another direct league source confirmed awareness of a situation in which 'Christian (was) playing around.'" One key as to whether that alleged incident will become a factor in the legal fight is whether the Raiders released Wilkins for something like 'personal conduct that has adversely affected' the Raiders. That's how the Ravens framed the release of safety Earl Thomas in 2020, in an effort to avoid his otherwise guaranteed salary. Remember, a "full guarantee" isn't. It means that the player is guaranteed to receive the money if he's released due to injury, skill, or the salary cap. He can, in theory, be released for other reason(s) that would provoke such a move — including 'personal conduct that has adversely affected' the team.

Iowa football 2025 season positional preview: Offensive line

The offensive line at Iowa has been one of the most prestigious units throughout the 21st Century, in large part due to Kirk Ferentz and his appreciation for the trenches. Outside of the tight end room, the offensive line has been the position that Iowa has had the most success in when it comes to placing players into the NFL. From Robert Gallery to Riley Reiff to Brandon Scherff to Tristan Wirfs, and so many more along the way, the Hawkeyes are known for developing professional offensive linemen. And the 2025 group could provide a few more names to add to that list. It's been surprising to see the Iowa offensive line struggle over the past five years. The unit has had great individuals, but the overall line has been middling, to say the least. Part of that is due to terrible quarterback play, but you can't blame the signal caller for all of it. George Barnett took over as the offensive line coach in 2021 after Tim Polasek left. Polasek did great work with the line, and Barnett has struggled to find that consistency. However, this year's line could be the turning point. With proven veterans and intriguing young talent, the 2025 Iowa offensive line could be a game-changer. Let's take a deeper dive into the unit. Who's projected to start on the offensive line in 2025? Starters from left to right: Jack Dotzler, Beau Stephens, Logan Jones, Kade Pieper, Gennings Dunker This is the starting line from the spring and will probably be how the line shakes out when the Hawkeyes take the field for the season opener. Jones, Dunker, Stephens, and Pieper are no-brainers to start. The biggest question with the line is at the left tackle position, where I have Jack Dotzler starting. Let's take a deeper look at each member of my projected starting line. Who's projected to back up the starters on the offensive line? Projected backup line from left to right: Trevor Lauck, Leighton Jones, Cael Winter, Michael Myslinski, Cannon Leonard The projected backups for the Iowa offensive line are younger guys with high upside. While they might not get to play much in 2025, barring injury, getting to learn and play behind greats like Jones and Dunker will help their development immensely. Let's take a look at the players who could very well make up the future of Iowa's offensive line. Final thoughts on the offensive line in 2025 Iowa's offensive line has some experienced veterans in Jones, Dunker, and Stephens, as well as some younger guys who could jump in and contribute immediately. The big question will be what Iowa gets from the left tackle position. If Dotzler is good, this offensive line could have a fantastic season. If the left tackle spot is a question mark all season, things could get iffy. Hawkeye fans will get their first look at the offensive line in action when Iowa hosts Albany on August 30. A lot more questions will be answered when they travel to face Iowa State the following week in the Cy-Hawk game.
