Tanium Achieves ANSSI-CSPN Certification

Business Wire15 hours ago
PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tanium, a leader in Autonomous Endpoint Management (AEM), today announced that it received the Certification de Sécurité de Premier Niveau (CSPN) from L'Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d'information (ANSSI), France's national cybersecurity authority. This certification, in the 'Security Administration and Supervision' category, confirms that the Tanium on-premises platform meets France's robust and rigorous cybersecurity standards.
After a comprehensive security evaluation by an accredited third-party assessor, Tanium received the ANSSI CSPN certification (ANSSI-CSPN-2025/04) for its on-premises platform. The certification was undertaken in response to growing market demand and is part of Tanium's broader strategy to align with European regulatory frameworks. It is valid for three years.
'Achieving CSPN certification is a critical step in our mission to support European organisations with trusted, secure technology,' said Jerome Warot, Area Vice President of Solution Engineering at Tanium. 'As cyber threats grow more sophisticated, it's essential that our customers in France, and across Europe, can rely on solutions that meet the highest standards. This certification underscores our commitment to delivering real-time visibility and control to complex IT environments around the world.'
Through the CSPN-BSZ mutual recognition agreement between ANSSI and Germany's Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI), the validity of the certification extends to Germany and further enhances Tanium's position as a trusted technology vendor in Europe.
'This certification is a testament to Tanium's long-term investment in France,' said Dagobert Levy, Vice President, EMEA South at Tanium. 'We are proud to contribute to the strengthening of France's cybersecurity ecosystem and to provide our customers with a platform that meets the highest standards of certainty, trust and resilience.'

Wells Fargo Scandal Drove Borrowers to Fintech Lenders, UC Davis Study Suggests

BUSINESS WIRE)--The Wells Fargo financial scandal in 2016 diminished consumer trust in traditional banks while driving homebuyers to fintech lenders for mortgages, a University of California, Davis, study suggests. 'I document that geographic areas with larger exposures to the Wells Fargo scandal increased the probability of consumers choosing fintech for their mortgage lender,' said Yang, an assistant professor at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management. The paper, 'Trust as an entry barrier: Evidence from FinTech adoption,' was published online in the Journal of Financial Economics. The paper was written by Keer Yang, an assistant professor in the UC Davis Graduate School of Management specializing in finance and financial technology. 'I document that geographic areas with larger exposures to the Wells Fargo scandal increased the probability of consumers choosing fintech for their mortgage lender,' Yang said. Short for financial technology, fintech refers to products and services designed to let consumers and businesses conduct banking and other financial services digitally. The difference in interest rates and other fees for comparable 30-year, fixed-rate loans on single-family homes between banks and fintech lenders did not change after the 2016 scandal. 'Therefore it is trust, not the interest rate, that affects the borrower's probability of choosing a fintech lender,' Yang wrote. Financial scandal erupts In one of the most prominent bank scandals since the global financial crisis of 2008, Wells Fargo was fined $3 billion by the federal government over allegations that bank employees, under pressure to meet unrealistic sales goals, had opened millions of accounts and saddled customers with fees 'under false pretenses and without consent' between 2002 and 2016. While a Los Angeles Times story documented the alleged practices in 2013, the scandal did not erupt until 2016, when Wells Fargo initially was fined $185 million by federal regulators, capturing national attention. Data analysis Yang analyzed Gallup poll answers regarding trust in banks, internet searches on 'Google Trends' on bank scandals, newspaper articles about the Wells Fargo fines and scandal, and deposits and mortgage loan data sets in traditional banks and in fintech lenders. The period examined was 2012 to 2021. Use of financial services increased from 2% of the market in 2010, before any knowledge of the Wells Fargo scandal, to 8% in 2016, according to the research paper. Furthermore, in areas with Wells Fargo banks — where exposure to the scandal was more pronounced — customers were on average 4% more likely to use non-bank lenders than any banks after 2016. The scandal had a minimal effect on bank deposits, probably because of protections afforded by deposit insurance, Yang said.

Tax break for seniors: Trump bill includes additional $6,000 deduction

President Trump's sweeping domestic policy bill that passed the House on Thursday provides a $6,000 boost to senior citizens' standard deduction from 2025 through 2028. The new temporary tax break — $6,000 for individuals and $12,000 for couples — is for tax filers age 65 and older. It starts phasing out for those who earn over $75,000 ($150,000 for couples). 'Low-income seniors won't benefit at all, and nor will very high-income seniors,' Marc Goldwein, senior policy director for the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan group that advocates for fiscal responsibility, told Yahoo Finance. 'The biggest beneficiaries are upper-middle-class seniors with significant wealth, who have a lot of discretion over how much income to realize in a given year,' he said. To be clear, this provision does not eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits as Trump promised in the campaign. It is a temporary income tax deduction, not a cut in the Social Security tax. The new deduction could also accelerate Social Security and Medicare insolvency by a year, to 2032, per an analysis from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. Some background: Most lower-income seniors don't have enough of a tax liability to claim the new deduction. In 2022, the median income of older adults was $29,740, according to the National Council on Aging. The majority of taxpayers claim the standard deduction, which is $15,000 (or $30,000 for couples) for 2025. Seniors who are single filers already qualify for an additional deduction of $2,000. (If you're married, filing jointly or separately, it's $1,600 per qualifying individual.) Read more: Standard deduction vs. itemized: How to decide which tax filing approach is right This newly passed short-term deduction raises that amount by another $6,000. Taxation of Social Security benefits is a hot-button issue and often catches seniors at modest income levels by surprise. Most states do not tax Social Security benefits, but about 40% of people who get Social Security must pay federal income taxes on their benefits, according to the Social Security Administration. If you file a federal tax return as an individual and your combined income from all sources, including your Social Security benefit, is between $25,000 and $34,000, you may have to pay income tax on up to 50% of your benefits. If your income exceeds $34,000, up to 85% of your benefits may be taxable. For joint filers, if you and your spouse have a combined income between $32,000 and $44,000, you may have to pay income tax on up to 50% of your benefits; if it's more than $44,000, up to 85% of your benefits may be taxable. 'That's a big shocker for our clients,' Ryan Haiss, a certified financial planner at Flynn Zito Capital Management in Garden City, N.Y., told Yahoo Finance. 'A lot of our clients exceed the $44,000 of combined income for Married Filing Jointly, and it is just something that is understood, and we consider when planning for retirement,' Haiss added. By subscribing, you are agreeing to Yahoo's Terms and Privacy Policy Read more: Do you pay taxes on Social Security? The new deduction could be a meaningful benefit for middle-income retirees, helping lower their overall tax bill. However, Haiss said, 'because of those income limits, many higher-income retirees, especially those already taking RMDs and collecting Social Security, likely won't qualify.' Most of the nearly 9 in 10 Americans age 65 or older collecting Social Security don't pay tax on this income and it's the bulk of cash they use to pay living expenses. The average monthly benefit: $1,975, which adds up to less than $24,000 a year. Kerry Hannon is a Senior Columnist at Yahoo Finance. At its start, Prime Day was a single-day event meant to celebrate the company's 20th anniversary. Over the years, it's expanded into a 48-hour event, but this year it's getting another extension: Amazon Prime Day 2025 will be four days long. Amazon Prime Day 2025 will start at 12:01 p.m. PDT on July 8 and run through 11:59 p.m. PDT on July 11. That said, there are already some early deals worth browsing if you want to get a head start on shopping. How Many Times A Year Does Prime Day Take Place? Technically, there's only one Prime Day each year. However, for the past three years, Amazon has run a similar savings event in October: Prime Big Deal Days. In recent years, it has also started running annual sales that are open to the general public (not just Prime members) including the Big Spring Sale, Amazon Pet Day and the Summer Beauty Event. Time will tell if Amazon will continue to add to its annual sale schedule. Is Everything Discounted For Prime Day? No, Amazon Prime Day isn't a sitewide sale. That said, you can still find hundreds of thousands of discounts across nearly all product categories from brands like Sony, EltaMD and, of course, Amazon itself. Just keep in mind that you have to be a Prime member to take advantage of the deals. Is Prime Day Worth It? The answer to this question largely depends on what you're shopping for. If you're in the market for Amazon devices, tech and small appliances, you'll likely find some great deals over Prime Day. The same goes for beauty and personal care essentials—Amazon has really stepped up its game in these categories over recent years. That said, there will inevitably be plenty of lackluster offers as well. We always recommend checking the price history of an item by using tools like CamelCamelCamel or checking other sites for price comparison before adding it to your cart. Our editors research the price history of every item we feature in our content, so shopping a Forbes Vetted Prime Day deals lists is another way to ensure you're getting a good deal. How Do I Become An Amazon Prime Member? You can sign up for an Amazon Prime membership at any time. The annual membership costs $139 (after a 30-day free trial). A membership gets you access to the sale as well as a slew of Prime member perks, like access to special offers, free shipping (including same-, one- and two-day shipping options depending on the product and your zip code), Grubhub+, Prime Video services and more. Some users may also qualify for discounted memberships, including students and eligible government assistance recipients.
