
SAS Viya unveils new AI tools & services to boost productivity
Platform updates
The SAS Viya platform now provides users with the ability to either build AI through a suite of end-to-end tools or purchase AI solutions and model packages, offering increased flexibility and productivity for decision-making across industries.

SAS continues to develop offerings that streamline and automate the AI life cycle and enable organisations to make better business decisions faster."
Key releases
SAS Data Maker, first introduced through a private preview, is a synthetic data generator designed to help organisations address challenges related to data privacy and scarcity. The tool also aims to simplify data management processes and reduce resource usage. The development of SAS Data Maker was accelerated by SAS's recent acquisition of principal software assets from Hazy, a specialist in synthetic data. General availability for SAS Data Maker is expected in the third quarter of 2025.
SAS Viya Intelligent Decisioning, which is currently available, offers organisations the ability to create and deploy intelligent AI agents with a controlled mix of AI autonomy and human involvement. According to SAS, this is intended to ensure appropriate oversight for tasks with varied complexity and risk profiles.
Another new addition is SAS Managed Cloud Services: SAS Viya Essentials. This service packages selected SAS Viya products into an out-of-the-box managed cloud environment. Initially targeted at small and medium-sized businesses, SAS Managed Cloud Services: Viya Essentials is intended to reduce barriers to adopting AI solutions by providing an accessible hosted service.
The SAS Viya Copilot, an AI-powered conversational assistant, is built into the SAS Viya platform to support developers, data scientists, and business users with analytical, business, and industry tasks. Currently available by invitation through a private preview, the general release is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025. The Copilot offers AI-powered assistance with model development and coding for SAS users. It is built on Azure AI Services, reflecting the ongoing partnership between SAS and Microsoft.
SAS Viya Workbench, originally launched in 2024, is a cloud-based environment intended for developers, data scientists, and modellers. The workbench supports coding in SAS and Python via Visual Studio Code or Jupyter Notebook. Updates in 2025 include the addition of R language support, the integration of SAS Enterprise Guide as an optional development environment, and expanded availability to the Microsoft Azure Marketplace in addition to the existing AWS Marketplace.
AI in practice
SAS has reported that organisations using the Viya platform benefit from the ability to build and deploy AI models more efficiently. The platform's structure allows multiple job functions—including developers, data scientists, IT professionals, and business analysts—to collaborate throughout the data and AI life cycle. SAS suggests this collaboration streamlines the path to making informed business decisions and accelerates productivity across various sectors and regulatory contexts.
Referencing industry research, SAS cited a 2024 AI productivity study by Futurum Group: "SAS Viya helps users accelerate the AI life cycle, enabling them to collect data, build models, and deploy decisions 4.6 times faster than selected competitors – all while helping them increase innovation, expedite decision making and drive revenue growth."
"The current economic climate and rapid pace of AI innovation can feel intense and overwhelming," said Bryan Harris, Chief Technology Officer at SAS. "Our goal is to deliver cutting-edge AI capabilities that help organisations navigate the hype and disruption, make breakthroughs in problem solving, and gain a decision advantage."
Real world usage
SAS highlighted the use of its platform by Fathom Science, a start-up focused on marine data analytics. Fathom Science used SAS Data Maker to generate synthetic shipping lane data, expanding their dataset to 500,000 points, in order to validate a model designed to predict whale locations and reduce the risk of vessel strikes on critically endangered North Atlantic right whales. SAS Viya Workbench was used subsequently to develop machine learning models for calculating the probability of whales' proximity to shore, assisting with statistical and machine learning validation of the location prediction model.
SAS stated that through these enhancements, the Viya platform aims to support a diverse range of users in addressing real business and environmental challenges efficiently with AI-driven solutions.

Denodo unveils DeepQuery to deliver explainable AI insights
Denodo has announced the private preview of DeepQuery, a new capability designed to enable enterprise-grade artificial intelligence to answer complex questions using live and governed data from across an organisation's systems. DeepQuery is positioned to help both large and smaller businesses by allowing users, including those without data science backgrounds, to ask multi-step, "why" questions and receive structured, explainable answers within minutes. The functionality moves beyond current generative AI (GenAI) and retrieval augmented generation (RAG) tools by connecting not just to internal data, but also by incorporating relevant external information for deeper contextual insights. Explaining reasoning Denodo describes DeepQuery as a "deep research" capability. While GenAI typically rephrases content or retrieves information from text, DeepQuery is intended to investigate, synthesise and explain reasoning across multiple sources, using information that is current and contextualised. Users can receive answers to highly specific business questions such as "What's driving changes in customer retention across regions?" or "Why did fund outflows spike last quarter?" without needing to manually aggregate information from disparate systems. In a statement, Angel Viña, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Denodo, explained the company's approach: AI's true potential in the enterprise lies not just in generating responses, but in understanding the full context behind them. Unlike siloed solutions tied to a single store, DeepQuery leverages enriched, unified semantics across distributed sources, allowing AI to reason, explain, and act on data with unprecedented depth and accuracy. According to Denodo, DeepQuery allows users to engage with live, governed data spanning systems, departments, and differing data formats, and expand those datasets with information from public sources, external applications, or trading partners. Supporting AI development DeepQuery is set to be distributed as part of the Denodo AI SDK, a set of tools aimed at making AI application development more accessible and efficient. This design intends to allow organisations to integrate deep research abilities into their applications, agents, or specialist industry solutions. Through the SDK, developers and AI teams gain the flexibility to build and experiment with research capabilities tailored to their needs. Integration and standards Alongside DeepQuery, Denodo is introducing support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as part of its AI SDK. The company states this will facilitate integration between AI agents and other applications built on MCP-compliant standards, supporting customers investing in agentic AI architectures built with open principles. Sinch launches Model Context Protocol to drive AI messaging
Sinch has launched its implementation of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing artificial intelligence agents to initiate compliant, real-time telecommunications activities across messaging, voice, email, and verification channels via standardised interfaces. The MCP is an emerging protocol intended to standardise how AI agents interact with various systems and services. Sinch's deployment of the protocol is designed to give AI agents the ability to carry out communications tasks directly through its platform. These tasks range from orchestrating marketing campaigns to client notifications, identity verification processes, and customer service handling. AI-driven communications According to Sinch, MCP is engineered to manage AI-scale communication volumes, suitable for tasks demanding rapid, automated interaction rather than the slower cadence typically associated with human-initiated communications. The implementation supports integration with AI tools, including OpenAI SDK, Claude, and Microsoft's Azure AI, and is delivered with compliance and security protocols incorporated as standard. The company states that MCP helps support a broad transition away from traditional brand-centric applications to direct communication channels between enterprises and their customers. Sinch currently manages over 900 billion customer interactions each year for 175,000 businesses in more than 60 countries, providing messaging, voice, email, and verification services, and drawing upon its local compliance and routing expertise. Global scale and expertise Sinch customers have already begun to report outcomes claimed to result from the shift towards AI-assisted engagement. For example, a global insurer has been able to autonomously process 80% of customer enquiries across 125 languages, while a retail client achieved tripled engagement by integrating conversational AI with Rich Communication Services (RCS). The company issued data from its State of Customer Communications Report suggesting that 95% of businesses are currently using or planning to utilise AI in customer communications. Research from IDC projects that the global AI platforms market will reach USD $153.0 billion by 2028. MCP implementation details Through its new MCP server, now available in developer preview with Claude, Sinch is providing a mechanism for AI agents to understand the requirements of different communication actions. The server allows agents to determine which channel should be used, how messages should be formatted for different jurisdictions, which regulatory rules apply, and how to ensure successful delivery. Sinch notes that these capabilities are accessible via a range of tools, including development environments like Cursor and frameworks such as OpenAI Agents SDK, as well as platforms like AgenticFlow and Microsoft Azure AI Foundry.
