India is a "super important" market for AMD and the largest telco Reliance Jio is among the customers using the graphic processing units ( GPUs ) in its data centres, a senior official has said. The company, which has around 8,000 employees here, considers India as a key hub from an engineering perspective, officials have said.Speaking to PTI on the sidelines of the Advancing AI event organised by the company recently, AMD General Manager for Data Center GPU business unit Andrew Dieckman spoke about the work with Jio."So we've deployed a fairly significant POC (proof of concept) with them that we're working on. And we are working on some future deployment plans that are yet to be announced in the future," he said, adding that Jio is an "important partner" for the company in India.Earlier, the company's Chief Executive Lisa Su said it is working with top companies, including Meta, OpenAI, Tesla, and Reliance Jio, for powering their AI advancements, and added that many of the customers have been added in the last nine months.About 70 per cent of companies at the top of AI work, including Reliance Jio, are using AMD's 'Instinct' GPUs, she said, displaying a long list of brands. It can be noted that Jio had earlier announced a partnership with AMD's bigger rival Nvidia on building AI infrastructure in the country. The collaboration is aimed at advancing India's capabilities in harnessing the power of AI for various industries and sectors, as per the company. There were media reports last year saying Jio's parent Reliance Industries will be using Nvidia's Blackwell chips for its data center. At the event, Su said her company's offerings are much cheaper than rivals while delivering the same or better computing performance. On perceptions of Nvidia holding the edge when it comes to the GPU market, Dieckman said one company will not define everything that is AI for the entire world and added that it is a very large market that can accommodate multiple winners."There will not be one company that will define everything that is AI for the entire world. This is not healthy, and nor will strong companies and strong sovereign nations allow that to happen, because it's just putting all of your eggs in one very specific basket," he said.AMD is not a "transactional company" and believes in a very collaborative mindset, he said, pointing out that it has an open ecosystem.Apart from working with Reliance Jio, AMD is also keen on offering its services to the Sovereign AI initiative, he said."We are seeking to work very closely with the various large players there (in India) to bring domestic solutions to market and make sure that India is well represented in terms of having your own sovereign AI capabilities.AMD is working with 40 sovereigns or governments across the globe at present, he added.Speaking about AMD's operations in the country, where it employs over 8,000 people, Dieckman said the company has a large footprint in India and the country plays a critical role in its research and development."When you look at the growth rate and GDP of India, (it is) super important on market for us. And we are seeking to work very closely with, you know, the various large players there to bring domestic solutions to market and make sure that India is well represented in terms of having your own sovereign AI capabilities," he said. Advanced Transport Mgmt System to start on 3 h'ways
Pune: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will soon introduce the Advanced Transport Management System (ATMS) on three national highways that connect to the city, senior officials told TOI on Friday. These three routes include the Pune-Solapur Highway, Pune-Nashik Highway, and Pune-Satara Highway. The ATMS is a set of technologies and software used to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability of transport networks. It integrates various systems like traffic sensors, cameras, and communication for real-time traffic information. "A proposal pertaining to this has been sent to the Union ministry of road transport and highways, and we expect approval soon. With this system being introduced, we aim to check for different traffic violations and the exact causes of congestion on these highways," a senior NHAI official in Pune told TOI. You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune According to officials, high-end CCTV cameras, which can rotate 360 degrees, will be installed at a distance of every 1km along all these highways. "These cameras will have a range of 500m on all sides. In addition, modern cameras will be placed every 500m at gantries of the road. These AI-enabled cameras will be able to spot any violations and read the registration number of the vehicles involved, following which an e-challan will be generated automatically without any manual intervention," the official added. While the Pune-Nashik Highway is approximately 213km long, Pune-Satara Highway is around 141km long; the Pune-Solapur Highway is 246km in length. Another NHAI official said the new system is similar to the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC).

Sebi warning: After action against Jane Street, chairman says 'market manipulation won't be tolerated'
SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey Capital markets regulator Sebi stepped up surveillance for the stock market and warned that any kind of manipulation will not be tolerated. Sebi Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey made this clear on Saturday, a day after the regulator passed an interim order against US-based hedge fund Jane Street Group. Pandey said monitoring has been tightened both by Sebi and at the stock exchange level. When asked if similar behaviour had been seen with other foreign investors, he responded, "All what I can say that market manipulation is not going to be tolerated". Earlier, on Friday, the regulator barred Jane Street Group from participating in the Indian securities market and ordered it to return illegal gains worth Rs 4,843 crore. The group has been accused of manipulating stock indices through positions in the derivatives market. This may be the highest ever disgorgement ordered by Sebi. In its interim order, Sebi prohibited four entities: JSI Investments, JSI2 Investments Pvt Ltd, Jane Street Singapore Pte Ltd, and Jane Street Asia Trading, from trading until further notice, while investigations continue. Later in the day, at an event hosted by the Bombay Chartered Accountants Society, Pandey also stressed the importance of transparency and ethics in corporate governance. He told chartered accountants that disclosing related party transactions, managing conflicts of interest, and reporting key developments on time were "non-negotiable responsibilities". "You have a critical responsibility to ensure that corporate governance is not reduced to a checklist," he said, addressing the CAs. Pandey also said that excessive compliance requirements can become burdensome and may not always serve their intended purpose. "We are also mindful that too much of information, too much of compliance adds to a big compliance burden which may not actually serve the interest that we really intend to serve," he said. 'We would also like to see wherever we have the possibility of doing better results with less compliance, less information, less onerous responsibility and less micromanagement on the part of regulator,' he added, inviting suggestions for improvement.
