BI files deportation cases vs 3 'Fake Pinoys'
On Tuesday, BI Deputy Spokesperson Melvin Mabulac said this developed after immigration officials nabbed three foreigners aged 46, 41 and 34, in Zamboanga del Sur on June 16 for allegedly pretending to be Filipinos.
Mabulac said the foreigners were engaged in legitimate businesses in the province. However, they were using alleged fake government-issued documents in identifying themselves.
'Ang Immigration ay nag-file ng deportation case sa mga dayuhang ito para sila ay ma-deport,' he told state-run PTV's 'Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon'.
(The BI has filed deportation cases against the foreigners.)
'Pero sa ating pag-deport, kung may pananagutan sila sa criminal case, they have first be accountable sa ibang kaso,' Mabulac added.
(But before we deport them, they should be held accountable to any criminal cases they are possibly facing.)
According to the BI, one of the foreigners was apprehended in the town of Dumalinao and was discovered to be allegedly operating a coconut charcoal business without a proper permit and visa since 2022.
Another suspect was found working without a permit in the same business. He allegedly managed the aforementioned business, was found to be misrepresenting himself as a Filipino and possessed a Philippine driver's license indicating his nationality as such.
The BI likewise apprehended a 41-year old foreigner who was found manning a cellphone store. Found in his possession was a Driver's License indicating his nationality as Filipino.
'Nakakabahala kasi if we go into the previous cases, nakikita natin once nahuli na mayroong silang mga dokumento na government-issued. Nakakabahala ito kaya ang ating national security agencies, tulong-tulong tayo,' Mabulac added.
(These incidents are causes for concern because if we go into the previous cases, we see that they have government-issued documents. We are working with national security agencies to address this.)
Meanwhile, the BI warned of possible charges against Filipinos who will assist foreigners in acquiring fraudulent government documents.
'If ever meron, they can be included. As far as the immigration's concern, itong mga subjects na ito they have violation sa Philippine Immigration Act for misrepresentation o paggamit sa hindi tamang dokumento,' Mabulac added.

Senator urges BSP to apply stricter measures vs. online lending apps
Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva on Friday called on the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to implement more stringent action against online lending apps amid the rise of internet gambling in the country. Villanueva, who earlier filed an anti-online gambling bill, said the BSP's regulatory oversight on online lending apps, electronic wallets, and digital banks should complement the efforts of law enforcement agencies in addressing the ill effects of online gambling to society. "How does PAGCOR actually screen and monitor its licensees to ensure that these same individuals are not resurfacing under a different name or company? What concrete actions does PAGCOR take when irregularities are discovered?" he asked. PAGCOR Chairman Alejandro Tengco earlier noted that the gaming industry regulator recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ad Standards Council (ASC) to strengthen the monitoring of gambling-related advertisements across all platforms. BI: 3 trafficking victims rescued at NAIA; 'overstaying' Korean to be deported
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) rescued three Filipino human trafficking victims supposedly bound for Spain and is currently processing the deportation of an overstaying South Korean. According to the bureau, the victims — two males and one female, who are in their late 30s and 40s — allegedly attempted to board an Emirates airline flight to Spain at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) when they were stopped by immigration personnel. The victims initially said they were working in a local tech company and were headed to Spain to attend a conference. However, immigration officers doubted their statement and referred them for secondary inspection. They then admitted that they are travelling to Spain for work and that they were recruited and that they paid over P300,000 to a contact they met on social media. "The said recruiter promised to provide them with all the necessary documentary requirements, and assistance to depart the country illegally," according to the statement posted by the bureau. Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado said they are investigating if any immigration personnel were involved in the incident. 'In line with the BI's one strike policy, we will not hesitate to take necessary legal action against those involved in human trafficking,' Viado said. The victims were turned over to the inter-agency council against trafficking for investigation and filing of cases against their recruiters. Overstaying foreigner nabbed Meanwhile, immigration authorities apprehended a South Korean man in Tubigon, Bohol over alleged overstaying. Suspect Park Yeungtae, 56, was arrested in his residence in Barangay Pooc Oriental in July 23 after allegedly failing to update his immigration status since 2016. His continued presence in the country was deemed in violation of the Philippine Immigration Act, according to the BI. 'Our officers continue to monitor and act on cases of foreign nationals who choose to overstay and disregard our immigration policies,' said Viado. 'The Bureau maintains zero tolerance for such violations. The law applies to everyone — no exceptions,' he added. Following his arrest, the foreigner was transported via ferry to Cebu City and temporarily held at the Mabolo Police Station. He is scheduled for transfer to the BI's facility in Manila. He will also undergo deportation proceedings and included in the BI's blacklist to prevent future re-entry into the country. 'The Philippines welcomes foreigners who respect our laws. But if you break them, we will take the necessary legal action,' said Viado. 'Overstaying is not a minor offense. Harry Roque denies interfering in Duterte's ICC case
Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque has denied allegations that he interfered in former President Rodrigo Duterte's crimes against humanity case before the International Criminal Court (ICC). Roque, however, admitted that he offered an 'additional legal remedy' outside the ICC that was subject to the approval of the Duterte family. 'I cannot be blamed for devising remedies to bring former President Duterte home alive. No such idea can be characterized as a crazy scheme,' Roque said in a statement. 'In fact, the Vice President acknowledged that we have discussed the domestic legal remedy on numerous occasions and I have deferred to VP's decision to hold the domestic legal remedy in abeyance pending the outcome of the interim release,' he added. This came after Duterte's legal counsel, Atty. Nicholas Kaufman, said he was informed that Roque approached a Dutch lawyer with an initiative to sue the Dutch government for Duterte's rendition, based on an interview posted on Alvin and Tourism Facebook Page. Kaufman dubbed the scheme as 'crazy." 'With this plan, he could very well have jeopardized the Defence's efforts to release the former President. I have made it known that I would find it hard to forgive him for that and I refuse to entertain his ramblings,' Kaufman was quoted as saying in a post. Duterte is under custody of the ICC to face charges over his administration's drug war. He said that Roque has been portraying himself as the only person capable of defending the former president. He added that Duterte has made it known that Roque should supposedly stop in the case and return to the Philippines. Roque, for his part, said he is a 'loyal foot soldier of the Dutertes' that wished to see Duterte return to the country. 'Ad hominem attacks and other forms of character assassination have no place in the legal profession and in any decent society, especially if these are directed against individuals who have not – as I said earlier – interfered in the case,' he said. 'I thus call on Atty. Nicholas Kaufman to put an end to this blame game and simply channel his time and energy to bring the former President home alive to make the Filipinos the happiest persons on earth,' he added.
