Maharashtra Govt slaps ₹10 Lakh fine on Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital over denial of emergency care
The case brought to light serious lapses in the enforcement of guidelines meant to protect patients in emergencies. As per a government resolution dated April 4, the hospital's refusal to provide immediate care breached Clause III of the charitable hospital norms, which mandate that no advance payment should be demanded in emergency cases and life-saving treatment must be provided without delay.
Further, investigations revealed that the hospital violated its obligations under Section 41AA of the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act, 1950, which requires charitable hospitals with annual expenses exceeding ₹5 lakh to earmark 2% of their billing towards an Indigent Patients' Fund (IPF). This fund is meant to ensure free or subsidised care for the economically weaker sections.
The inquiry committee's report, submitted to the Chief Minister's Office on Saturday, noted that Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital not only failed to meet these legal responsibilities but also contributed to a tragic and avoidable loss of life, exposing serious flaws in the system meant to safeguard underprivileged patients.

Govt shielding Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital management in the Bhise death case: Danve
Pune: Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Ambadas Danve on Friday claimed that state govt was trying to shield the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital management in the death of Tanisha alias Ishwari Bhise after the health hub allegedly denied her treatment. Danve raised the issue of Bhise's death while discussing the functioning of charitable hospitals in the state in the state legislative council. The Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC cited the Bhise death case and said several charitable hospitals had been denying treatment to patients in the state. "Charitable hospitals are supposed to give treatment to patients irrespective of their financial condition. Over 750 complaints of denial of treatment by charitable hospitals are pending before the State Health Assurance Society despite that clause. These complaints are mostly from cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. It is sad that the govt is not taking any corrective measures," Danve said. CM resolves 10k grievances in 11 sessions
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has resolved more than 10,000 public grievances during 11 rounds of hearings since assuming office, the CMO said on Monday. According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), 10,132 out of 10,894 grievances received so far have been addressed — a resolution rate of 93 per cent. The remaining cases are currently under process, it added. Accompanied by a team of seven ministers and senior officers, Majhi on Monday held the 12th session of the Chief Minister's Public Grievance Hearing since assuming office in June last year. The Chief Minister and his team heard grievances of around 1,000 people during the day, the statement said. Continuing his practice, the Chief Minister first met and heard the grievances of persons with disabilities (PwDs) before proceeding to listen to other petitioners in the chamber. 'The Chief Minister directed department secretaries present at the hearing to take immediate steps to resolve the issues raised,' the CMO stated. A single-window mechanism has been established to ensure immediate disbursement of medical assistance to patients suffering from critical and life-threatening diseases, under the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF). Majhi approved Rs 9.50 lakh in assistance for 10 persons requiring urgent medical care. So far this year, Rs 53.50 lakh has been provided to 48 beneficiaries through this streamlined process. Ministers Suresh Pujari, Mukesh Mahaling, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Nityananda Gond, Krushna Chandra Patra, Pradeep Bal Samanta and Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia accompanied Majhi during the session. In May, the Chief Minister had stated in a post on X that, 'In a people's government, the highest priority is given to resolving people's problems. The complaints of common people were heard at the new grievance centre at Unit-2 in Bhubaneswar. Officials have been directed to take immediate steps to resolve their problems for the benefit of the complainants.'

One dead, four injured in firecracker unit blast in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar
