Rankings for the 30th anniversary of the publication's world's best awards were reportedly tallied from more than 657,000 reader votes. The magazine reports that a total of 180,000 readers completed the survey for this year. The survey questions touch on aspects of each property such as rooms, location, service, food and overall value. According to Chelan Goonetilleke, general manager of Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler, the top placing has much to do with both the resort's offered experiences and hospitality as it does its ambience and environment in the mountain town. Additional B.C. destinations to make the top-five list of Canadian resorts included: Fairmont Chateau Whistler (No. 2), and The Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino (No. 3). The 2025 Travel+Leisure World's Beset Awards also ranked 10 top hotels, different from resorts due to property amenities. The historic Fairmont Empress hotel in Victoria ranked No. 1 in the ranking. Additional B.C. hotels to land in the top 10 included: Fairmont Pacific Rim (No. 7); and Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (No. 9). The magazine also ranked the top five Canadian cities, as chosen by reader votes. Vancouver came in at No. 3 behind Quebec City and Montreal. Victoria ranked No. 5 on the list behind Halifax. Earlier this year, the property was named the best in Canada by the U.S. News & World Report. Located at 4591 Blackcomb Way, the resort features a mix of accommodations, including approximately 270 guest rooms and suites, as well as private residences. For those who like to add a little rest and relaxation to their holiday, the resort is home to a spa, a heated swimming pool, and three whirlpools. The five-star luxury resort boasts several on-site food and drink options, including Sidecut Steakhouse, Braidwood Tavern and The Library by The Macallan. The top rating comes amid a week of buzz in the B.C. hotel sector. Shangri-La hotel in Vancouver was sold and will become part of the Park Hyatt brand following what has been described as a multimillion-dollar redesign. Some P.E.I. tourism operators say tensions with U.S. boosting visitor numbers

July has already been a good start for those in the tourism industry, according to some businesses on Prince Edward Island, with the movement to support Canadian businesses amid trade tensions with the U.S. being cited as a big reason why. Matthew Cassidy is the president of Coach Atlantic, which does multi-day tours around the Maritimes, as well as tours around the Island. He said this year off to a strong start. "We're really optimistic about this season, June was exactly what you would hope for June to be, the bookings are strong for the rest of the season," he said. One reason why the numbers are looking good so far is the push to support Canadian business amid tensions with the United States. "When you have some conversations with our guests and conversations with our customers about why they're here and where they're from, there's definitely stories about, 'Oh, we were going to go to Cape Cod for this week, but we decided to come to Charlottetown and the Maritimes for the trip instead,'" he said. "I think it will be very interesting at the end of the year to see how much of a difference that Canada-strong movement had, but early signs and early stories are there." Cassidy said the cruise market from American visitors is also strong. "Americans are still very well welcomed here, and they're enjoying themselves while they're here. So it's a bit of… getting the best of both worlds here," said Cassidy. Steve Arnold, the director of operations for Ride Solar, said business has roughly doubled so far this year. Ride Solar has been operating in P.E.I. and Halifax since 2015. It's services include a party bike and North America's largest solar-powered boat. "We are a newer business, so it could be that were just trending upward, but I think the situation between Canada and the United States and the whole elbows up and Canada-strong thing is definitely helping us out with regards to more Canadians staying in Canada," he said. Arnold also owns Canada's Rotating House in North Rustico, P.E.I. He said bookings are usually full each year — excluding peak-pandemic years — and this year is no exception.

‘Seeing people that look like us': Amazing Race Canada features most Indigenous contestants in show's history

Best friends and roommates, Rebecca Merasty and Rebecca Watt, are competing on Season 11 of the Amazing Race Canada. The Amazing Race Canada is making history this season with the highest number of Indigenous contestants the show has ever seen. Season 11 premieres Tuesday night with six Indigenous participants — including Rebecca Merasty, from Saskatchewan's Flying Dust First Nation. Merasty is teamed up with her best friend and roommate, Rebecca Watt, who is from the Pehdzeh Kí First Nation in the Northwest Territories. 'We didn't grow up seeing people that look like us, other than Pocahontas ... which obviously isn't the greatest representation,' Merasty told CTV News from Vancouver, where she now lives. Merasty said she was first contacted by a casting producer. A few weeks later, Watt was also individually contacted. 'They had no idea we were besties and roommates,' Merasty said, taking the two separate messages as a sign. 'We were just like, 'Okay, I guess we're doing this. This is creator telling us that it is time for us to go on The Amazing Race.'' Now known as 'The Rebeccas,' the duo said representation was a driving force behind joining the race. 'That was such a big motivating factor for us. You know, having those little eyes look up at us and be like, 'Hey, they kind of look like us. We can do that, too!' And just like encouraging youth to really go for it, go for what they want,' Merasty said. Teams are competing for two 2025 Chevrolet Blazers, a trip around the world, and a $250,000 cash prize. The new season kicks off in Edmonton at Commonwealth Stadium.
