
Forum discusses key issues related to labour market developments and future skills
The two-day event, held as part of the Labour Forum organised by the Directorate General of Labour in Dhofar Governorate, saw a large turnout of experts and specialists from the Sultanate of Oman and GCC states.
The forum seeks to promote cross-sectoral dialogue, exchange expertise and successful practices and devise evidence-based future visions to support employment programmes and human capital development in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040. It also keeps pace with GCC states' approaches to achieve sustainable economic and social development.
The forum's programme included dialogue sessions and workshops focusing on key issues related to labour market developments and future skills.
The first session included three working papers on economic developments, future of work prospects and employment policies in a changing world.
The second session dealt with economic developments and future skills in GCC states. It included research papers on the governance of the work leadership's system, forecasting skills needed to achieve development goals, policies of education, and the development of skills in a manner that supports the sustainability of labour markets.
The forum constituted a strategic dialogue platform that contributes to discussing the future of employment and skills development, enhancing the readiness of labour markets in GCC states to address global challenges and supporting efforts to build sustainable and competitive economies.

Registered vehicles in Oman rise by 5.5%
Muscat: The total number of registered vehicles in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 5.5% by the end of June 2025, reaching 1,798,062 vehicles compared to June of the previous year. According to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, private vehicles accounted for the largest share of registered vehicles in Oman, making up 79.3% with a total of 1,425,308 vehicles. Commercial vehicles followed at 14.7% with 264,913 vehicles, while rental vehicles constituted 2.3% with 41,386 vehicles. The remaining percentages were distributed among taxis, government vehicles, and others. In terms of colors, white vehicles topped the list of the most registered colors at 42.3%, totaling 761,358 vehicles. Silver came next at 12.9% with 231,822 vehicles, followed by gray vehicles at 181,140. Regarding engine capacity, vehicles with engines between 1500cc and 3000cc recorded the highest proportion among registered vehicles at 54.5%, amounting to 979,300 vehicles. This was followed by engines between 3001cc and 4500cc at 22.2%, totaling 399,770 vehicles. The statistics also revealed that vehicles weighing less than 3 tons constituted the largest share of registered vehicles, accounting for 90.7% with 1,631,392 vehicles.

Labour Ministry achieves 38% of employment target for 2025, reports over 12,000 new jobs
Muscat: The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has announced that a total of 12,936 employment and replacement jobs were secured for Omanis in the first half of this year. This figure, encompassing both the public and private sectors, represents a completion rate of 38% of the ministry's annual target. According to the Ministry's data, the breakdown of these jobs is as follows: Public Sector: 2,316 jobs Private Sector: 10,620 jobs The report also detailed the number of training opportunities, which reached 4,292 in total, achieving a completion rate of 39%. These opportunities were distributed between 473 in the public sector and 3,819 in the private sector. Combining both employment and training, the Ministry indicated that a total of 17,228 opportunities were created, resulting in an overall achievement rate of 38.28%. The Ministry's figures also showed that the total number of employment opportunities, including jobs for those previously employed, reached 35,807. This total includes the 17,228 first-time job opportunities and 18,579 jobs for individuals who had been previously employed.
