Uttarakhand Weather: The IMD has issued a yellow alert warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by intense spells of rain likely to occur at isolated places.
As rain batters Uttarakhand, CM Pushkar Dhami on Thursday announced that the Char Dham Yatra will temporary remain suspended. The Badrinath Highway is also blocked due to debris falling from the hill near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani.
Heavy Rain Disrupts Life In Uttarakhand
Due to continuous heavy downpour in the state, the Yamunotri Highway has remained closed for the past five days as debris has blocked the roads. As a result, nearly two dozen villages have lost connection with the tehsil and district headquarters.
In the Uttarkashi district, roads and pedestrian paths in eight villages of the Sarbadiyar Patti region have been severely damaged, causing major inconvenience to the residents.
Meanwhile, in Rishikesh, efforts are underway to remove encroachments from roads in preparation for the upcoming Kawad Yatra.
In Chamoli district, the Badrinath National Highway has been disrupted at three locations — Pipalkoti, Nandprayag, and Umatta — due to landslides. Work is currently in progress to clear the debris and restore traffic flow.
The mountain regions have been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall since last night, worsening the situation further.
Kedarnath Road Blocked
On Thursday, the Uttarakhand government said that the road to Kedarnath was also blocked due to debris and stones falling in the Munkatia Sliding Zone under the Sonprayag area.
'The Yatra will resume once the road is cleared", Rudraprayag police said in their X post.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by intense spells of rain likely to occur at isolated places from July 3 to July 7.
Most areas in Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, while several places in other districts may also witness similar conditions on July 4, as per IMD predictions.
For July 5, IMD has predicted light to moderate rain with thunder in most parts of Dehradun, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar districts.
On July 6, light to moderate rainfall with thunder is expected in most areas of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Bageshwar, and in many places across other districts of the state.
According to IMD, the weather will remain same on July 7 too with most areas in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, and Bageshwar likely to receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Gurgaon swelters as humidity soars to 90%, light rain offers no relief

Gurgaon: The city reeled under extreme humidity with levels going up to 90 percent on Friday. Scattered drizzles were seen during the day, but they offered little respite from the heat. Even as the minimum temperature dropped a notch from the previous day to record 28 degrees Celsius on Friday, residents felt no relief due to high humidity levels. The maximum temperature was recorded at 35.2 degrees Celsius, which was 0.6 degrees higher than the previous day. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, the city is under the influence of moist monsoon winds, but due to the weak monsoon current, rainfall activity remains subdued. "The current spell is more about high moisture than rain," an IMD official said, adding that more rainfall is expected in the coming days. "Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the state on July 9," he said.
