Ryan Fleur is promoted to president of the Philadelphia Orchestra
Fleur had been interim president since January, when Matias Tarnopolsky left to head the New York Philharmonic. Fleur said he will concentrate on trying to fill seats for the roughly 20% of capacity that is not being regularly sold.
'I also want to aggressively make our venues available to both community groups and education groups that might not otherwise realize that these spaces are open to them,' he said. 'I want every Philadelphia school student, K (kindergarten) through 12 to walk through our doors at least three times in their formative years, whether it's coming to a Philadelphia Orchestra open rehearsal or a school concert or to our jazz for freedom program, which connects the history of jazz with the civil rights movement. '
Now 53, Fleur was president and CEO of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra from 2003-12, when he became Philadelphia's executive director of orchestra advancement. He also served as interim president in 2018 after Allison Vulgamore left to run the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and before Tarnopolsky started in Philadelphia.
Fleur had been Philadelphia's executive director since 2021, the year the orchestra merged with the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the orchestra's home. The institution rebranded as Ensemble Arts Philly last year.
Revenue for the 2023-24 season was $132.6 million, of which 38% was ticket sales, 24% from ancillary streams such as parking and rentals and 38% from contributions and endowment. Capacity for all presentations was 76% in 2023-24, up from 69% in 2022-23. This season is on track for 77%.
'We are seeing audiences now at levels slightly higher than before the pandemic,' he said. 'It's no longer predominantly subscribers. There are a lot of single-ticket buyers. One of the benefits of the merger is that we have a very large database through many genres to cross-market to. We see people attending not just Broadway (shows), but they'll come to an orchestra classical performance and they'll come to a jazz performance.'
The orchestra's contract with Local 77 of the American Federation of Musicians expires in September 2026.

The Grand in Wilmington has announced two additions to its upcoming Broadway season, as well as the start of single ticket sales for its upcoming Broadway season. Broadway and film star Mandy Patinkin will come to The Grand in October with 'In Concert: Jukebox,'' a concert featuring pianist Adam Ben-David. Old Hollywood, New Winners! Drury Lane Theatre's Awards Night Razzles and Dazzles Burlington
Enormous platters of shrimp, bruschetta, and stuffed mushrooms. Glamorously dressed people socializing and sipping cocktails. Glitter and glitz all around, and a universally shared love for performing for the masses. Is this Hollywood being described, or Burlington, Ontario? This time, it's Burlington. Hollywood already had its turn this year. On Saturday, June 28, 2025, Drury Lane Theatre opened its doors to the local theatre scene for a night honouring theatre excellence. It was the yearly Drury Lane Awards Night, Burlington's own opportunity to elevate Halton-based talent. The theme was Old Hollywood, and the event planning team, led by event coordinator and three-time award recipient Sheila Flis, delivered. Sumptuous food and desserts were provided by Leave It To Us catering service. Drury Lane Theatre has enjoyed a highly successful season this year, wowing audiences with its heartwarming Holiday Inn, its riotously funny Music Hall, its always-family-friendly Christmas pantomime, and of course, the laugh-inducing dark musical comedy A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. An extra bonus of the evening was that Drury Lane was also celebrating its 50 anniversary. Fifty years of keeping Burlington entertained. These are all perfect reasons for a party. Paul Damario was the quirky host of the evening. 'I think you will all agree with me,' he declared, 'That, so far, this has been the best season ever!' The participatory audience members, all familiar with each other, hurled friendly jokes and quips his way all through the ceremony. Damario gave it back just as good. 'How many holidays were celebrated in Holiday Inn?!' he challenged the audience during the trivia portion of the night. 'All of them!' shouted out one guest. 'Great answer, but wrong!' Damario flung back. Though the actors and actresses are the ones who are seen on stage, there was plenty of recognition for those who work backstage. Michael Belton and Alison Anderson collected Best Set Construction and Scenic Painting for Holiday Inn. Michael MacLennan, who is notable for being the director of the Broadway revue Finales, took away Best Set Design for A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. Best Costume Design went to Carrie Mines and Mary Buzzelli for their work outfitting the cast of the 44 Annual Music Hall. Sabrina Sikora enjoyed a double win with Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design for A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. For those who couldn't score tickets to the Mirvish theatre's production of Beetlejuice in Toronto, there was a surprise treat that more than made up for it. Mia Hickey, a winner of the 2025 Young Artist Competition, performed her own outstanding rendition of 'Dead Mom,' Lydia Deetz's mourning ballad. Hickey is a young starlet in the making, and her actual mom, who is very much not dead, beamed proudly in her seat. Lucas Chabot, who debuted as the scheming cad Ted Hanover in Holiday Inn, tied for Best Male Newcomer with Nathan Farmer, the criminal lead of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. Farmer's co-star Lindsay Orlowski took Best Female Newcomer. Best Female Lead went to Michelle Wagman of Holiday Inn, who wasn't present to accept her award. Her husband and co-star, Jacob M. Wagman, accepted on her behalf. Best Male Lead was awarded to the incredibly versatile Adam Holroyd, who impressed Burlington by playing no less than nine different roles in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. In his acceptance speech, Holroyd described practicing his various characters' voices while telling his young daughter bedtime stories. And finally, Holiday Inn deservedly won Best Production, and married producer team Heather and Randy Bridge stepped onto the stage to accept their due. Though this season of Drury Lane Theatre is now officially over, the Drury Lane family is already moving full speed ahead towards their next one. Rachel Zegler Reportedly In Talks For 'The Sound Of Music'
Rachel Zegler might be taking on another big role in the near future. After appearing in major films including Steven Spielberg's West Side Story and Marc Webb's Snow White , Rachel Zegler is now said to be reportedly in talks for The Sound of Music . As of this writing, these talks have yet to be officially confirmed, but according to a new report, she's in talks to play the lead role in a stage production of the iconic story. Specifically, if Zegler were chosen for the part, it's said to be the role that Julie Andrews originated. The news comes from Deadline – and while we're waiting for more concrete information, the outlet does note that Zegler does perform on stage as much as she does in film. In fact, she's currently involved with a stage production of Evita at the London Palladium, where she plays the part of Eva Peron. In fact, the outlet adds that 'she is in talks to continue her Evita work on Broadway in 2027,' so she seems to be having a great run with the stage at this time. It would make sense, then, that she'd also be wanted for The Sound of Music , so perhaps we'll have more information in the near future. Otherwise, Zegler recently came off the release of Snow White , the long-awaited live-action adaptation of Disney's animated classic. However, due to various controversies including Zegler's own involvement in the feature, it seems to have flopped at the box office. While she suffered this hiccup regarding her theatrical work, Zegler still seems eager to perform as she continues working on the stage.
