AJ Ginnis, former U.S. Ski Team athlete, to be first 2026 Olympic torchbearer
Greek Alpine skier AJ Ginnis, a world slalom silver medalist and former U.S. Ski Team member, will be the first torchbearer of the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympic torch relay that starts Nov. 26.
Ginnis, who eyes his Olympic debut in February at age 31, will receive the flame in the ancient Olympic site of Olympia, Greece, to start the torch relay. A Greek athlete traditionally is the first torchbearer before an athlete from the Olympic host nation.

'It is a great honor for me, something that I never imagined as a child," Ginnis said, according to the Greek Olympic Committee.
The relay will culminate at the Feb. 6 Opening Ceremony at the San Siro Stadium in Milan.
The relay typically spends multiple days in Greece, the birthplace of the Olympics, before moving to the host nation.
For Milan Cortina, the Italy portion of the relay will start Dec. 4 in Rome.
Ginnis, 30, missed most of last season due to knee surgery.
In 2023, he earned what is believed to be Greece's first world championships medal in any Winter Olympic program event when he took slalom silver.

The best Greek finish in any event at a Winter Olympics was 13th in women's skeleton in 2002.
Ginnis previously raced for the U.S. at the 2017 Worlds, then was dropped from the national team after the 2017-18 season following several injuries and a best World Cup finish of 26th at the time.
He switched to his birth nation of Greece, where he had learned to ski at Mount Parnassus, a 2 1/2-hour drive from Athens. He moved to Austria at age 12 and then Vermont three years after that.
Ginnis has undergone at least seven knee surgeries in his career. He tore an ACL in summer 2021, ruling him out of the 2022 Winter Games.

He thought he was done with ski racing when he went to Beijing to work the 2022 Olympics for NBC.
'When I came back, I told myself, my goal is to go into the next Olympic cycle being a medal contender,' he said at the 2023 Worlds. 'Fighting back from injuries, getting cut from teams, trying to fundraise for what we're doing now. ... This is a dream come true on every level.'

💣 Dovbyk offered to AC Milan 😱 What's next for Jashari
Artem Dovbyk could stay in Serie A, but change shirts. The Roma striker has been offered by his agents to Milan, who are looking for a striker. Matteo Moretto has the exclusive, and also highlights how the Rossoneri's number one target remains Dusan Vlahović. If the Serbian from Juventus has many advantages, first and foremost the fact that he would arrive on a free transfer, if not at zero cost, for Dovbyk the Diavolo would have to make a significant outlay, of at least 40 million. It's hard to call these figures an opportunity, but the trail should still be considered. 📉 Full-backs, Doué is too expensive As for the full-back, Guela Doué's valuation has dropped to 30 million euros, which is too much for Strasbourg. Milan won't make an investment of that kind in that area of the field, because they don't think it's necessary, but - above all - because what will be saved will then be reinvested in the striker and Jashari. DS Tare hasn't given up yet... 🤔 Jashari, new episode coming? It's no secret, the Club Brugge midfielder is the Rossoneri's summer target, but the continuous rejections from the Belgians have turned the negotiation into a soap opera. Today the deal is on hold, but it's not excluded that Casa Milan will decide to raise the offer. The player's 'yes' has been clear for some time, now it's a matter of convincing the Belgians to let their midfielder go. If the negotiation were to fail completely, Tare could also decide not to look for a plan B and stick with the current squad in that area of the field, allocating the "Jashari package" elsewhere. Maybe even to the striker. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. You can read the original version in 🇮🇹 here. 📸 Francesco Pecoraro - 2025 Getty Images

Léon Marchand tries to break his own 200 IM world record at the swim worlds in Singapore
Associated Press SINGAPORE (AP) — Léon Marchand of France is out to break his own world record in Thursday's 200-meter individual medley at the swimming world championships in Singapore. If you missed it, Marchand only set the record on Wednesday in the semifinals at the worlds — 1 minute, 52.69 seconds. That shattered the old mark of 1:54.00 held by American Ryan Lochte since 2011. Of course, Marchand's victory is almost assured. The only question is by how much. A four-time gold medalist a year ago in the Paris Olympics, Marchand will share the stage on Day 5 with Canada's Summer McIntosh. McIntosh will go for her third medal in Singapore, this time in the 200 freestyle. Elizabeth Dekkers of Australia and American Regan Smith are the main rivals. She has already won gold in the 200 IM and 400 freestyle. McIntosh is bidding for five individual gold medals in Singapore after winning three individual Olympic gold medals in Paris. Yu Zidi, the 12-year-old Chinese swimmer, is the eighth-fastest qualifier in the field as she tries to reach the podium. She was fourth in the 200 IM. Three other finals are on the day's program and the Americans have shots. The United States has won only three gold medals in Singapore with the team battling a stomach bug picked up in training camp in Thailand. Head coach Greg Meehan has suggested team health is improving. In the men's 100 freestyle, American Jack Alexy and Romanian David Popovici were the quickest qualifiers. Popovici has already won the 200 free in Singapore. He was the gold medalist at 200 in Paris, and took bronze in the 100. American Regan Smith has the quickest time in the 50 backstroke followed very closely by Lauren Cox of Britain, American Katharine Berkoff, and Wan Letian of China. The last final of the day is the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay. __ AP sports: recommended Item 1 of 3
