Pujara, Yuvraj celebrate International Yoga Day
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Indian cricket icons Yuvraj Singh and Cheteshwar Pujara took to social media, celebrating and extending wishes of International Yoga Day.
Pujara shared a picture on X, doing yoga in front of a beaming sun and captioned the post, 'Take a moment to honour the journey within! #internationalyogaday.'

The World Cup-winning all-rounder Yuvraj also posted an Instagram story of himself doing yoga, saying, 'Some days are meant to remind us to pause, to stretch beyond the routine and reconnect with breath, balance and stillness. Today is a great day to make this a practice.'
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took part in the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations, where he hailed yoga as a gift 'beyond age' that transcends all boundaries and unites humanity in 'health and harmony.'
The event took place against the scenic backdrop of the Visakhapatnam coastline, with Indian Navy ships stationed near the shore, adding to the grandeur of the celebrations.
The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the Andhra Pradesh government and extended his appreciation to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan for hosting the event in Visakhapatnam.
He lauded their leadership as 'inspiring' and described the state's initiative to promote yoga as 'commendable.
'Yoga is for everyone beyond boundaries, beyond backgrounds, beyond age or physical ability. It is a universal gift that unites humanity in health, harmony, and consciousness. Friends, I am truly delighted that we are gathered here in Visakhapatnam, a city that beautifully blends nature with progress. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Chandrababu Naidu Garu and Pawan Kalyan for hosting such a wonderful event under your inspiring leadership. It is commendable that the state of Andhra Pradesh has taken this meaningful initiative to promote yoga,' said PM Modi while addressing the gathering.
Over three lakh individuals joined him for a mass yoga session in the coastal city, reinforcing this year's message that 'yoga belongs to everyone' and brings the world together.
The Prime Minister recalled India's initiative at the United Nations in 2014 to declare June 21 as International Yoga Day, a move that received wide global support in record time.
'I remember when India proposed to the United Nations that June 21st be celebrated as International Yoga Day. Remarkably, in a very short span of time, 175 countries came forward to support this initiative. Such unity and overwhelming global support was truly extraordinary. This was not just about agreeing to a proposal, it was a collective step taken for the betterment of humanity. It reflected a shared vision for a healthier, more conscious world. Today, in 2025, we can proudly see that yoga has become an integral part of many people's lives across the globe,' the Prime Minister said. (ANI)

A British-American journalist posted a family photo of Brandon Gill with his Indian-origin wife Danielle D'Souza Gill and her father Dinesh D'Souza. "Brandon Gill's father-in-law Dinesh D'Souza was born and raised in India and has definitely eaten with his hands. Is he going to ask his father-in-law to leave the US too?" he asked. Another picture is going viral on the internet, that shows Brandon Gill's in-laws sitting in a restaurant and posing for a photo. It shows food kept in front of them and pieces of what looks like a 'naan' in their hands. "If you're gonna be a giant racist douche against Indians, don't go marrying an Indian," a post that shared the picture said, slamming Brandon Gill. Gill's post, Indian-origin wife's defence Brandon Gill had made comments, which many termed "racist", against Zohran Mamdani, sharing a clip of him eating with his bare hands. "Civilized people in America don't eat like this. If you refuse to adopt Western customs, go back to the Third World," Gill wrote. Even as social media users used Brandon Gill's Indian-origin family ties to attack him for dissing Mamdani, the congressman's wife Danielle came forward in his support. 'I did not grow up eating rice with my hands and have always used a fork," she said in a post. Her post came after many users online drew parallels between what Gill said and Danielle's Indian heritage. They said many South Asian countries to eat with hands and that Gill's wife probably does too. "I was born in America. I'm a Christian MAGA patriot. My father's extended family lives in India and they are also Christian and they use forks too. Thank you for your attention to this matter," Danielle further wrote. Zohran Mamdani, son of Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair, is a 33-year-old self-declared socialist. He recently defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo in New York City's mayoral primary. If Zohran Mamdani wins, he would be New York's first Muslim mayor.

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 1 (ANI): Congress leader Digvijaya Singh expressed his discontent with the Central government marking the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, and said that it has never happened that a central government has made its political agenda the government's agenda. Digvijaya Singh said, 'I have only one objection. Central government officials are writing letters to states and telling them to organise programs against the Emergency for one whole year. It has never happened that a central government has made its political agenda, the government's agenda. This should not happen.' Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday during the 123rd episode of his monthly radio address 'Mann Ki Baat' condemned imposition of Emergency in the country and termed the period as one of the darkest chapters in India's democratic history. He said that country is observing the 50th anniversary of the Emergency as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'. During his address to the nation, he played rare archival audio of former Prime Ministers Morarji Desai, Babu Jagjivan Ram and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who described the Emergency as a time of constitutional murder, mass arrests, and the suppression of civil liberties and press freedom. The Prime Minister asserted that every citizen should remember the ones who fought 'bravely' against the Emergency and it also inspires us to stay 'vigilant' to 'safeguard' the constitution. PM Modi said, 'Morarji Desai describes the Emergency in brief... Not only did those who imposed the Emergency murder democracy, but their intention was to keep the judiciary as their puppet... Under 'MISA', anyone was arrested arbitrarily, people were tortured... Indians refused to compromise on democracy. Finally, people won and the Emergency was lifted. Babu Jagjivan Ram powerfully about this...' MISA refers to the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). In the audio clip of Morarji Desai, the former Prime Minister is heard recounting the horrors of the Emergency. Desai is heard saying in the clip played by PM Modi in his radio address, 'When the Emergency was imposed, people were treated inhumanely. Their right to freedom was snatched away, newspapers were silenced, and the judiciary was rendered powerless. Over one lakh people were jailed. Such an arbitrary rule is rare even in world history.' "Not merely a govt program, it has become a people's movement": PM Modi reflects on 10 years of Digital India
New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared a detailed reflection on the completion of 10 years of the 'Digital India' initiative, a mission to 'democratise access, build inclusive digital infrastructure, and opportunities for all.' In a post on the social media platform LinkedIn, the Prime Minister shared his blog titled 'A Decade of Digital India' where he stressed that while previous decades were marked by scepticism about Indians' ability to use technology, his government changed that approach by trusting the citizens' capabilities. He emphasised that technology was used not to widen disparities but to bridge the gap between the privileged and the marginalised. The article reads, 'Ten years ago, we embarked on a bold journey into uncharted territory with great conviction. While decades were spent doubting the ability of Indians to use technology, we changed this approach and trusted the ability of Indians to use technology. While decades were spent thinking that the use of technology would deepen the gap between the haves and the have-nots, we changed this mindset and used technology to eliminate the gap between the haves and the have-nots.' 'When the intent is right, innovation empowers the less empowered. When the approach is inclusive, technology brings change in the lives of those on the margins. This belief laid the foundation for Digital India: a mission to democratise access, build an inclusive digital infrastructure, and provide opportunities for all,' it added. Highlighting the progress made since 2014, Prime Minister Modi noted that internet connections in the country have surged from 25 crores to over 97 crores, and over 42 lakh kilometres of Optical Fibre Cable have been laid to provide internet connection to the remotest villages. He wrote, 'In 2014, internet penetration was limited, digital literacy was low, and online access to government services was scarce. Many doubted whether a country as vast and diverse as India could truly go digital. Today, that question has been answered not just in data and dashboards, but in the lives of 140 crore Indians. From how we govern, to how we learn, transact, and build, Digital India is everywhere.' 'In 2014, India had around 25 crore internet connections. Today, that number has grown to over 97 crores. Over 42 lakh kilometres of Optical Fibre Cable, equivalent to 11 times the distance between Earth and the Moon, now connects even the most remote villages. India's 5G rollout is among the fastest in the world, with 4.81 lakh base stations installed in just two years. High-speed internet now reaches urban hubs and forward military posts alike, including Galwan, Siachen, and Ladakh,' PM Modi wrote. The Prime Minister credited the India Stack--India's digital backbone--for powering platforms like UPI, which handles 100+ billion transactions every year. 'India Stack, which is our digital backbone, has enabled platforms like UPI, which now handles 100+ billion transactions a year. Around half of all real-time digital transactions happen in India. Through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), over 44 lakh crore has been transferred directly to citizens, cutting out middlemen and saving 3.48 lakh crore in leakages. Schemes like SVAMITVA have issued 2.4 crore+ property cards and mapped 6.47 lakh villages, ending years of land-related uncertainty,' he said. Saying that India's digital economy is empowering MSMEs and small entrepreneurs, Prime Minister Modi shared how ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) and GeM (Government E-Marketplace) is providing opportunities to small businesses to sell their goods and services in the marketplace. The PM stated, 'India's digital economy is empowering MSMEs and small entrepreneurs like never before. ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) is a revolutionary platform which opens a new window of opportunities by providing a seamless connection with a huge market of buyers and sellers.' 'GeM (Government E-Marketplace) enables the common man to sell goods and services to all arms of the government. This not only empowers the common man with a huge market but also saves money for the Government,' he noted. Citing an example, the Prime Minister said, 'Imagine this: You apply for a Mudra loan online. Your creditworthiness is assessed through an account aggregator framework. You get your loan and start your venture. You register on GeM, supply to schools and hospitals, and then scale up via ONDC.' He further stated, 'ONDC recently crossed 200 million transactions, with the last 100 million in just six months. From Banarasi weavers to bamboo artisans in Nagaland, sellers are now reaching customers nationwide, without middlemen or digital monopolies. GeM has also crossed 1 lakh crore GMV in 50 days, with 22 lakh sellers, including 1.8 lakh+ women-led MSMEs, who have fulfilled orders worth 46,000 crore.' Praising India's Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), PM Modi highlighted, 'India's DPI from Aadhaar, CoWIN, DigiLocker, and FASTag to PM-WANI and One Nation One Subscription is now studied and adopted globally.' He noted, 'CoWIN enabled the world's largest vaccination drive, issuing 220 crore QR-verifiable certificates. DigiLocker, with 54 crore users, hosts 775 crore+ documents securely and seamlessly. Through our G20 Presidency, India launched the Global DPI Repository and a $25 million Social Impact Fund, helping nations across Africa and South Asia adopt inclusive digital ecosystems.' Calling India a leading startup hub, he said the country now ranks among the top three global startup ecosystems with more than 1.8 lakh startups. He also highlighted India's progress in artificial intelligence, saying that India has 'championed' humanity-first AI. The article reads, 'India now ranks among the top 3 startup ecosystems in the world, with over 1.8 lakh startups. But this is more than a startup movement; it is a tech renaissance. India is doing extremely well when it comes to AI skill penetration and AI talent concentration among our youth.'
